DJtrippyT
Yeah, I hear you talking. The muttering. The complaints. You think I'm not ready? You think it's not the time? You think I don't see you over there, looking shifty, looking restless? looking.... at your WEATHER APP??? BECAUSE IT'S SPRING YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARDS AND IT'S TIME TO TAKE IT... OUTSIDE (brief moment of silence for people who may actually live in Minnesota or something where it is definitively NOT spring) Okay, so I have been holed up in the gym training for the Crossfit Open, and I am SOOOOOO close to being done with that goal. If you read my update on my last challenge this morning, big news: I have actually moved UP the leaderboard since then and am now in 62nd place! VERY EXCITING. I have two weeks to go and it is time to UNLEASH THE DRAGON. (unless the last two workouts both involve pull-ups, in which case the dragon will remain safely housed and leashed and I will not finish in the top 50) Once that is over, and in fact starting right along with it, is my next athletic adventure. Strap in, kids. We're going for a walk...in the woods. I just registered (literally, like twenty minutes ago) for the Blue Ridge Adventure Race, which I have wanted to do for the last couple of years and haven't felt I was ready for. If you have no idea of what Adventure Racing is, think of it as a triathalon for people who are really into mosquitos and poison ivy. I am signed up for the 8-hour solo race and I am SCARED SHORTLESS. It will be by far the hardest thing I have ever done. There will be trail running There will be kayaking there will be biking, of the mountain variety PLUS they have a section where you have to find your own course using a compass and a Topo map. You've got to be kitten me right meow. It's almost exactly 9 weeks away, so it lays over two challenges quite nicely. Which will be the only nice thing about it because OH MY GOD. Actually I'm pretty excited about it. It has elements of activities I already do, like hiking and kayaking and cycling, and it will require lots of outdoor time, which will make me happy after the crappy rainy winter holed up in the gym. Plus it has the enticement of some shiny new gear, as I may buy a second-hand mountain bike. My gym work will tweak slightly - still three days a week, and I'm still going to work with the trainer there because I really liked it (maybe every other week if it gets too expensive). I'm probably going to go by the gym today and show him this and see what he thinks, but I feel like it will be one heavy strength day and two enduro circuit days. Lots of pulling and carrying moves. Everything else will be on the trail or the bike or the lake and that will be AWESOME until I get ticks or some mystery rash or trip on my own shoelace. Then it will be awesome and distinctly uncomfortable. I have two speed bumps on the road to adventure race success: 1: I'm on vacation for 10 days for the last week of March/first week of April. 2: I'm a shitty not particularly gifted runner. Problem one is obviously a good problem to have, since I haven't traveled in a long time and I'm itching to get back at it. My trip is going to be pretty active - lots of snorkeling and kayaking and I might get certified to dive, plus I plan to do a few workouts while I'm there. There's even a gym on the island that I can pay to do a drop-in workout if I want, or I can just go jogging or something. Problem two is... problematic, but nothing I can't overcome with some attention. If I learned anything from my crossfit open challenge(s), it's that having a single goal concentrates the mind wonderfully and also is SO MUCH EASIER to attain. Even when your "one goal" includes several different elements, like running and kayaking and not dying from tetanus. I'm going to start slowly and not do anything foolish, and ask @Xena if I have questions; I also joined a local women's trail runner group on facebook and once I can run more than a mile without vomiting I will start meeting up with them. They seem super nice. I also joined a local women's bicyling group that has a mountain bike division, so I can gather some knowledge and comraderie there. I'm going to have to take my nutrition in hand, as the running gets easier as I get lighter. Okay, that's all the excitement I can stand for now. I am supposed to be resting today ( I am super sore from this weekend's Open) but I'm kind of itching to get out and do a ruck. It's raining though so it may have to wait. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice and I'm going to get the kayak out and start limbering that skill up. I need it for vacation anyways. Wheeeeeee. 8 Quote the year of living trippily Final Boss, Part 2 Boss, Part 1 Previous: Adult Content Brain Weasels Choose Your Own Adventure Woman of Mystery - Worth it Simplicity Spoiler Take it Outside II Take it Outside Even More Current: 52 Days Currently Current: 100 Days Current: Queen 2: Electric Boogaloo Queen of the Jungle THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE CHALLENGE Apart six: Amazon (part 5) (part 3: The Wickening) (part 2) (part 1) Link to comment

DJtrippyT
It’s 9:30 pm in my time zone which means all the CF Open scores should have been turned in, and I held on to 62nd place! I moved up 12 whole points in the standings (from 74th last week by the time everything came in). I still may drop a little as the last few scores get logged but I’m still really pleased with my effort and I’m glad I took the gamble on the RX workout. 4 Quote the year of living trippily Final Boss, Part 2 Boss, Part 1 Previous: Adult Content Brain Weasels Choose Your Own Adventure Woman of Mystery - Worth it Simplicity Spoiler Take it Outside II Take it Outside Even More Current: 52 Days Currently Current: 100 Days Current: Queen 2: Electric Boogaloo Queen of the Jungle THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE CHALLENGE Apart six: Amazon (part 5) (part 3: The Wickening) (part 2) (part 1) Link to comment

I’m not sure ‘sane’ is the adjective of choice here but yeah the 24 hour one is, like the song says, strictly for the hardcore. The same company puts on a great race in Florida every year - in fact it was just last week- called Sea to Sea where you go to St augustine (east coast of florida) and they bus you to an undisclosed location on the west coast (I think this year it was Cedar Key). You’re given a map and you have 72 hours to make it back to St Augustine by hike, bike, kayak, and trail running. Crrrrrazy. Even fir the 8 hour I’m gonna need some #aggressivemotivation so @DarK_RaideR is gonna have to hop to it 1 Quote the year of living trippily Final Boss, Part 2 Boss, Part 1 Previous: Adult Content Brain Weasels Choose Your Own Adventure Woman of Mystery - Worth it Simplicity Spoiler Take it Outside II Take it Outside Even More Current: 52 Days Currently Current: 100 Days Current: Queen 2: Electric Boogaloo Queen of the Jungle THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE CHALLENGE Apart six: Amazon (part 5) (part 3: The Wickening) (part 2) (part 1) Link to comment
