I'm planning to make my own wedding outfit as well, but mostly because I've always wanted a "mideval fantasy" wedding.  And once it's finished, I'll be using it for a lot of things.  The fiancee refuses to tell me what she's planning, beyond her bride's maids are helping and I'm not allowed. :P

Have you guys considered a themed wedding?  You might have an easier time getting into it, if you can make a costume instead of just a wedding dress.  It's your day, so you should make it your own.

And also, making outfits is hella cheaper than the wedding industry charges (I have opinions, there). We haven't really discussed the wedding much, yet; we're waiting for the May comic con trip to pass before planning anything else. Since it'll just be the two of us and the JP, though, anything we do would really just be for us. I found a pattern I like, just toying with it in my head for how to make it mine

I feel you on the random fabric (and other assorted costuming stuff).  I want to get some of the space-saver multi hangers at some point so I can more easily see what I have and make a "if it doesn't fit on a hanger, I don't need it" rule for scraps.

Finally got this done today. Had substantially less than I thought I did, but still took a couple "3-2-1-arghjustthrowitinthetrashDONE!" moments. Now have a reasonable amount of practice fabric, three things that will become either skirts or house pants, fabric for 1 jedi robe that's been promised to my gentleman's little brother, and 1 large bolt of possibly a 1920s duster coat. That's pretty manageable.

Lol. Short answer: heck yeah!

Long answer:

Spoiler

Part of me still wants the princess dress and floof and pomp and moment of being the beautiful bride...

A much larger part of me has experienced both formal dress and elaborate, big, poofy costumes and remembers how much of a pain in the a$$ they are. Corsets look pretty and fancy until you have to wear one to work for 8 hours a day, all weekend, 10 weekends out of the year, for 8 years in a row. After about the third weekend, they just become a pain in the boob and you long for being able to bend over or sit down and slump like a normal person. The main reason I got into sewing was price. The second reason was so I could make ren garb that would let me balance "pretty" with "comfortable and capable of kicking someone in the face if they needed it." Obviously, a corset and skirts will never be as comfy as yoga pants and a t-shirt, but I did my best to make it tolerable. The thought of stuffing myself into a huge floofy dress, supportive undergarments, probably heels, and uncomfortable hairdo and makeup and parading around for other for hours on end is... not enticing. Hence, practicality over princess dreams.

Oooh. Besides, I'd much rather have evil queen dreams, now. Muahahahahahaha.

Cough. Sorry. Anyway...

Another productive weekend, after getting not much done over the week. I'm slowly working my way through the iTunes list. I've deleted about 2,800 sonds so far, and the slider is about halfway now, so I'm hoping a few more dedicated pushes will get me done with that. My gentleman is cleaning out some of his own things, then I'll call a donations place to come pick up stuff. Next weekend is supposed to be rainy, so the car wash/ clean might be on hold, but that might make for a good weekend to go start on the storage unit. In the meantime, the house looks clean, we got to open the windows while cleaning them today and air out the house, and I've got a decent list of things up on eBay/ FB marketplace for sale. Clothing is cleaned out and I'm actually pretty set for the summer, so no major expenditures there.

Went to take the trash out today and saw the crocus bulbs I planted in winter of 2017 that did nothing all last year apparently decided to resurrect like mad this year. I moved some stuff and found not just leaves but even a flower trying to bloom under a bag of dirt, so hopefully they'll spring up and I won't need anything but the blueberry bushes. Realistically, though, I'm at 60% of my list already (not counting garden stuff), so I think I'm pretty on track. And since "get something for the front door" probably involves Joann's anyway... I really should take a look at the Thor skirt pattern and go get cape and skirt fabric. :D ONLY cape and skirt fabric. But still.

Sorry for the long post, here's a wedding potato.

Fair. That would imply other people being there, though, and it being long enough to warrant an outfit change. I'd prefer neither.

Ghostess and my wedding consisted of a 15 minute trip to the city marriage registry followed by a dinner with her parents :)

Thinking that's the way we're gonna go, then maybe do a potluck thing at a pavilion that weekend or something similar that doesn't require setup/ teardown/ us to be there for long hours. Minus the parents thing, because both sets are volatile and must never meet.

With the right amount of alcohol, that's just free entertainment.  Hire a decent camera crew and you can sell footage to recoup wedding costs. :friendly_wink:  /badideafairy

I love those quick-change dresses. From big poofy to contained might be a tad more difficult though.

And yeah NO, very bad idea fairy. Think stuck-up religious racists meet white trash delusional holier-than-thous. Pass, thanks.

In OTHER news... I think I'm getting better at eyeballing patterns. Only took two tries to get the belt pattern to something reasonable (although I did start from a modified obi base from the jedi outfit, so I already knew the general fit was correct). Here's bad lighting on skirts and belt, in very rough trial format:

a7eb6c9a-a021-482f-9c69-d3c06d901459-original.jpg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds   f835826f-cda2-4e27-a9e8-d9937b0c8cca-original.jpg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds    b38b01bd-f3eb-43e1-926c-08b3ffd68a29-original.jpg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds

It's hard to see the front bit against black house pants, but it's there, and I think I already have fabric that would work for it. So now I get to order leather and leatherworking tools to make the belt, then go fabric shopping for cape and skirt. Eeeeee! It's closing in on wearable!

So last week was pretty much sewing for cosplay and general life upkeep. The weekend was hijacked by driving the gentleman's parents' truck to my parents' house (about 2 hours' drive), picking up cabinets and taking them back to the gentleman's parents' house. An entire day gone just because my parents are wasteful (the cabinets are less than 3 years old and in pristine condition - the ones in the gentleman's house are original from the 1970s) and the two sets must never meet. The drive was pretty peaceful, but it was still 8 hours out of the house and not doing things I wanted to do.

Sunday was a little better, got a lot of stuff done, including planting mini dinosaurs around the office as an April Fool's prank. It turned out to be incredibly popular, so I might have to plan something similar again for next year (adults need more fun in their lives). Scheduled a pickup for the stuff I want to donate, and got stuff that sold on ebay packed up and ready to mail. This week is kind of packed, but hopefully I can squeeze in some relax, play, and "knock things off the list" time.

The stuck-up religious racists, sadly. An upbringing I still have to monitor my subconscious on. :/

Minor update: my boss, a classic type 1, came out of his office on Tuesday holding the dinosaur I hid on his desk, and asked "What's with these things? I've seen a couple in the lunch room...?"

Me: They were an April Fools prank.

Him, starting to smile (which does not happen often) : Oh? Whose?

Me: /grins

Him: /laughs, and goes and hides it on another coworker's desk who is out this week.

It was cool to see some of the more staid, reserved higher-ups get excited about finding mini dinos. There are still a few that haven't been found; I'll probably clean them out tomorrow, except the ones in the greenery/ foliage area, which I'm hoping will outlast me at this company. :D

Otherwise, I'm still working through my iTunes list. I've gotten through the S's so far, and have gotten rid of over 4,500 songs. Have also found some old favorites, and am looking forward to a more robust offering on my iPod once I finish (hopefully this weekend). Looks like I'll be able to go to the fabric store this weekend, too, and get final fabric for the cape and skirts; I ordered the leather and leatherworking tools for the belt, and they should be in next weekend.  Getting close!

Finished the iTunes cull. Recycle bin says I cleaned out 6,258 songs (not counting cloud-based ones) and over 45GB of space. Yeesh.

Interesting note... met my mother for lunch today, and she asked why all the fuss about the cabinets - are the gentleman's parents not able to get them? I didn't have the caring to lie, so I just said we're keeping you from meeting because you're wildly different types. Gave her some of the other side's family drama, and she seemed to accept it. Don't know if that's cause she could feel superior or just didn't want to be involved in drama (that's not her own) and frankly, I'm just happy that she accepted it.

Got leatherworking stuff in today. Trying to decide if I should be good and do yard work on the nicely-forecasted weekend or go get fabric and play with leather. Decisions, decisions.

Got a decent amount done this weekend, will be 90% complete provided I make it to the range today. Spent a decent amount of time last night cleaning my pistols last night, after realizing they hadn't been used in about two years (shame). Debating selling the smaller one - I got it to carry concealed in CO when I had a carry license, and my favorite is too large to do that comfortably, but I just don't like the smaller one; it's half plastic and not as comfortable in the hand. I'll make a decision on that after tonight.

Otherwise, things are in pretty good shape. Have a plan to finish out the rest of my list this week, just under the end-of-challenge deadline.

Oooh, what do you have?  My favorite will always be the Beretta 9mm because that is what I was trained on, but my brother has a pair of matching .045s (that he and his wife got as a wedding present!) and they are a lot of fun and small enough for CC

My favorite is a Sig Sauer 9mm P226. It's a solid hunk of metal that I got used, but it fits my hand really well and has never jammed. The other is a Ruger SR9C, also 9mm, but smaller, partially plastic, and shorter for carry conceal. Since MD is a bunch of [censored] about carry conceal, though... do I really need it?

I wonder if the grip is too big for your hand (or if you are holding your thumb too far forward).  If your trigger finger is not wrapping around so that the fingertip is directly in front of the trigger when fully relaxed it will usually cause you to push to the inside when you squeeze.  On the other hand, if your finger is wrapped too far around the trigger it will typically pull to the outside.

It's very likely that's the problem. I think the trigger hits somewhere on my second finger joint on both hands. Is there a solution to that other than "get a better fitted gun"? I haven't researched this yet.

In other news, my list is (mostly) complete! Got the garden done today, the coldest day of the week, but it looks good. I might get some mulch to put over it but I'm also fine with just the way it is. I briefly was irked that there still appear to be "holes" in the regular spacing of plants, but then decided I hit my goal, not going to worry about it this year. Can be something to look forward to next year. What's left, from left to right, is: asparagus, 2 blueberries, hardy kiwi, lavender, rosemary, and crocuses at the end. All reasonably low maintenance, so yay.

Overall, I'm quite happy with this challenge. I truly did not think I would get all that done, and it's nice to be wrong about that.  While I have not completely re-written my cover letter, I've done a fair bit of research and thinking about what the type of company I'm going for wants, so I'm considering that done in spirit, if not in letter (badum tss).

Next challenge will get back to cosplay, though there will be a week off for travel in early May.
