I approach any problem with a slew of spreadsheets and schedules that if I just follow to a T, I *know* I'll be able to solve the problem (see, e.g., all previous challenges). Then, I sit on my butt and do nothing about it. My life has been crazy the last six months, and with no signs of letting up, I know I can't take this typical approach again. But I'm pretty sure I'm in the worst shape I've ever been, and my waning energy levels are making my lifestyle completely unsustainable (there's only so much coffee one man can drink.) The focus this challenge is not to add things, but to retreating from things. Ok, I'm adding one thing, but it's mostly retreating. 1. Retreat from buying breakfast on the go. Eat oatmeal or a smoothie at home instead. 2. Retreat from alcohol. I have 2-3 social events over the next month where I'll probably have a beer or two, but other than that, no booze. 3. Move forward on my feet. That just means running. 3-4 times per week. 4. Retreat from my phone. Screen time tells me I spend 2-2.5 hours on that thing a day. I don't have time for that shit anymore. Alright, then. This week is spring break for me, and as a grown man who has not had a spring break in, oh, about 10 years, this total lack of structure is sorta messing with me. Breakfast: made two exceptions already this week, but they were to grab breakfast with the Mrs., which we don’t get to do too often, so I’m good with it. Alcohol: I’ve had one drink so far this week, not bad. Running: one run so far this week. Will get at least two more in. Also went rock climbing this morning. I’ve always known I lacked upper body strength, but goodness, that’s hard. Tried to keep things centered as much as I could though. Breakfast: Ate out twice. Alcohol: Went to a concert and had a couple beers on Thursday, but didn't drink the rest of the week. Running: Got out twice. Not as much as I wanted, but the runs felt really good. Phone: Mixed results. Had a couple 2.5+ hour days, but also kept it down to around 1.5 hours on a few days too. theophilus Posted April 8, 2019 Author Report Share Posted April 8, 2019 Week 3 Breakfast: I did better this week, had one morning I wasn't able to eat before I left and grabbed a muffin. Alcohol: Had a glass of wine on 2-3 occasions last week. Running: Only got out twice again, but added some distance. I'd only been doing 2 miles, but I did 2.6 and then 3 last week. Phones: Mixed again, but I'm noticing that even on the days I use it more than I want, I'm increasingly aware of how much I'm on it.
