Sooo hi.

I was in Morocco for a week for a wedding. I have yet to post pics, but if we are FB friends you can see some of them.

I have been reading a lot. I am going to attempt some spring cleaning this week, including a refresh of my capsule closet for spring (any color palette suggestions? I really don't love what I've seen so far, but I'm planning to snoop around Target tonight in advance of planning anything.)

My wrist sprain is still healing, it's going ok I guess. The OT exercises I have I don't seem to think make a difference, but it is also hard to tell day to day. I go back to OT on Wednesday.

I started a new movement practice doing what I guess I would call foundational movement? With the aim of getting back to a pain free body. I'm only 1 week in so I don't have much to report yet, but it's 128362345% different than barbell lifting.

Foundational movement sounds interesting - pain free is a goal that I’d love to accomplish as well.

And a robot wrist.

Spring colors - not necessarily stereotypically spring, and I’ve got zero ideas what’s in the stores - but a really nice scarlet pops to mind when I think of your coloring. Scarlet and blues.

Also: that leafy green that was popular awhile ago and may still be popular?

Basically, saturated colors that border on jewel tones - but like actual gems and not wine and rust and plum (those would be good too; just more for fall). Like ruby and sapphire and lapis and emerald.

Oooh, do tell on foundational movement! I took a break to focus pretty much exclusively on it - not sure I ever got to a pain free body, but I feel like I got a lot of strategies to manage / relieve pain and tightness when they crop up? Maybe you'll have better luck there though.

RE: Color palette - I don't do a ton of seasonal variation, but I'm also a dude - main difference is that now my pants colors are navy, khaki, and blue jeans (put the blacks and grays away til next winter) and I'm not layering stuff over my blue and purple check pattern shirts. Are you looking for big changes in your wardrobe season to season?

Pain-free sounds so simple but is a challenge. I'm 30 now so I guess I'm starting to fall apart now (according to anyone older than me...)

Colors: yea for winter I did a black/gray/white base palette with scarlet and green accent colors (like gryffindor red and then a true green or emerald) which did work really well! But I wanna switch it up a bit for spring :) (Great suggestions though, hilarious that its my current capsule lol) I was looking and "fiesta red" is popular for spring, but bright reds like that tend to wash me out.

OH yea, btw I turned 30 like 2 weeks ago everyone...

Is that what you are doing currently? Or you have done in the past? I struggle with finding a good way to describe what I am doing,  but taking a lot of time to focus on mobility and activation. My movement so far has been lots of things like breathing, spinal movements, single leg work, and pulling. Focusing on slow controlled movement to improve my motor control and efficiency. I am working with previous camp NF headmaster Jonathan Mead.

Yea, living in Wisconsin season to season requires pretty significant changes in my wardrobe throughout the year as far as layering goes. Luckily my work is pretty laidback so I don't have to have 2 separate wardrobes for work and casual. This will be my fourth capsule (summer, fall, winter, now spring) and I've used black as the base for all of them, but I'd be interested in switching to navy for spring (but would also involve investing in many more navy basics, as many of my basics are black or would not go well with navy).

I should take a photo of my current capsule when I get home. Maybe I'll even write up a post about it in general/non-fitness for anyone interested. Or maybe even a video.

Yes, please share all the capsule fun! I love seeing other people's wardrobe stuff - I might even write up mine at some point (though I feel like I kinda cheat on capsuling because I use SO MANY workout shirts in a typical week).

I definitely did some foundational movement only stuff for a couple weeks focused on shoulder, hip, core, and foot mobility / stability, and I do like going back to them whenever I notice something starting to go awry. But currently, my programming is a mix of traditional strength (though with plenty of unilateral work - nearly 100% of my leg work is unilateral - and lots of core stability work built in), energy systems work (lactic power, lactic capacity, and aerobic for active recovery), some agility work (quickly accelerating to a sprint or changing direction side to side), and mobility work (all the joints plus the trunk being able to articulate with control). But I'm also very cautious with the volume I'll do - I want to make sure that the bulk of my energy goes into practice for dance, since I'm perpetually in-season as an athlete.

And congrats on the big 3-0! I kinda feel like I'm on track to have a better functioning body in my 30's than I did in my 20's (I'm 28 now) and I'm hoping you find the same for yourself!

My dad's statement on getting old is "I can still jump up just as high as I always could, I just can't stay up in the air as long."

The big thing about your 30s is you have to think more about recovery from workouts.

Not nearly as much as you do when the 40s come around... and now you have to think more about your warm-ups too.

Just watched an 89 year old guy DL 4 plates for reps. Age doesn't mean anything as long as you take care of yourself, which means warm-up and recovery, age-independent.

Well, luckily we don't have to retire from lifting until our 90s or something. Unlike, say, soccer players.

Yes and no. The body changes as it ages. However, "taking care of yourself" means being aware of those changes and adapting to accommodate them. Like my newly discovered near-obsessive focus on properly warming up before the work sets.  :)

One of my gym's owners is 71. He still lifts big numbers and told me that his post-workout regimen consists of leaning back in a recliner under a weighted blanket after dinner, taking big hits of gorilla glue #4 for 30 minutes and then going to bed.

I feel like he's onto something.

I googled this. Apparently the name comes from the fact that you will feel "glued" to the couch. Given that he's combining this with weighted blankets, it sounds like a comprehensive restraint system. I assume the blankets are weighted with 400lb loaded barbells.

My body started falling apart at 28 haha! I'm definitely finding more value in some of these exercises than others, but enjoying the ride nonetheless.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!

Still planning to do capsule stuff for ya. I went window shopping this weekend and holy crap are spring colors ugly this year. Whoever thought "Spring 2019? EARTH TONES" deserves to be fired. Mustard, rust, and army green everywhere. (and like random ass periwinkle pieces? Da fuq?) So in conclusion, I have still not picked my accent colors, but I think I am sticking with black as the base because with these tones, navy doesn't make a ton of sense (and also involves investing in a number of additional pieces I don't currently have: navy blazer, navy dress pants, colored/white jeans, shoes, navy tee, etc.)

Mr J got his wisdom teeth out on Friday, so I took the day to work at home. Because of that I managed to feel well rested this weekend and actually got quite a bit done around the place (although it seems like a neverending task). My sister and her bf also came to visit Saturday night, which was fun. And then Sunday did sorority stuff and grocery shopping. Tonight is workout and breakfast prep and maybe wardrobe if I have time.

I decided on black base with "dusty rose" (Below is not as dusty as I'd like, but MS Paint has its limitations) and green as my accent colors. I am undecided between a more of a olive/khaki green (whatever you would call that?) and a more true green or emerald. I think either looks fine and would be able to find pieces for.

I started reading "The Fifth Season" by NK Jemisin and I'm only on Chapter 3, but after the acknowledgement "For all those who have to fight for the respect that others are given without question" and a SOLID pun on page 9, I'm pretty sure it's my favorite book in the history of books ever.

I am halfway through week 3 of my new fitness regimen and starting to feel changes. My wrist is starting to feel like I can almost put pressure on it. I've progressed to able to place my hands flat against the wall at shoulder height :)

It took me a bit to get through the first half of Fifth Season when I read it, but as soon as I did, I had to TEAR THROUGH the following 2 books. Just a warning. ;)

I love black/pink/green, personally!

Well, yes, that's what I thought.

Oooh, I like mustard and rust. But not if it's too rusty. Just slightly desaturated red with a hint of warmth. Not orange. Deliberate window shopping for the purposes of planning is a good idea, actually! I guess you can look around quickly and get ideas without getting stressed about whether things will fit, and then make a plan of attack about what to try on.
