And That, Reader, Is How I Finally Got My Shit Together (Deffy # 50)

I don’t know if anyone has noticed but for most of this year I have been setting lofty goals and then just doing whatever I damn well please anyway. I don’t actually do what I set out to do and I think it’s because I am overcomplicating everything. My headspace has been a little off so far this year and I think it’s because of all the changes I have gone through. I am the kind of person that put downs very deep roots and although the changes have been objectively positive I have still had trouble adapting to it.

 

So I am going to strip everything down to the very basics and just get that aced before I add anything more adventurous. This is really about finally getting my shit together and getting into a good place for myself, then I can branch out and try to follow more people again in future challenges. 

 

1.       Food – NOURISH.

The food I eat needs to nourish the body I want to build, but I have to eat less overall too if I want to get back to my weight loss. I gained quite a lot of weight since last summer but it’s no good ruminating on that now, I just need to sort it out from this point forward. I am going to increase the quality of the food I eat overall, and also measure everything out beforehand with the snackbox. I have already planned all of my dinners for the next week and I will do this at the beginning of every week. They are all tracked on MFP and now non-negotiable so the night before every new day I will fill my snack box with food up to the value of what is remaining of 1800 calories after dinners are taken out. I have looked over last year when I was very successful with weight loss, and given the amount I work out and how active my job is, 1800 calories was the average intake on months I was doing well. I did do a lot of fasting in those months too so it’s possible that the big variation of intake was the major factor at play rather than the number of calories but this is a great starting place from which to monitor it, and anyway I find that having food to eat that is preplanned takes the emotion out of it and if I don’t want to eat whatever is remaining in my snack box then it drives home to me that I am not genuinely hungry so I often eat less.

 

2.       Exercise – TOIL

I have got the exercise habit nicely down – in fact in the last 18 months I have only had one week where I didn’t do at least 3 x 30 minute sessions per week so this doesn’t need to be a goal, this is just part of my life. What does need to be a goal is the actual working part of working out. I often revert to the bare minimum which is 30 minutes on the elliptical. And that’s basically fine as a minimum – it keeps the streak, keeps the habit and keeps the momentum but does it actually do what I need it to do where the crafting of my body is concerned? I remember last summer when the girls at work asked me about my workout routine and I told them and they were very impressed and then they touched my quads and were even more impressed. They’re nowhere near as impressive, and since my shoulder issues are keeping me from any real upper body work then this is the perfect time to work on my core and lower body. Every time I do 30 minutes on the elliptical, I need to do something else as well. There is no minimum time here because that will be met with the elliptical, but whether that is a strength training session, learning a dance routine, swimming, yoga, some aerobic thing, or even “yoga” as long as I am the one doing the majority of the work – it has to be something in addition to the elliptical. It doesn’t matter whether I want to do it or not, I just gotta get that bullshit done.

 

3.       PREEN

I want to look better. This is the reason I am doing all of this after all. I want to take more time to make sure I look good so moisturising is very important. I hate the feel of body lotion on my skin but I can just about bare it on my face, boobs and butt. I should probably do my elbows too. But I want to moisturise these bits at least once a day, as well as taking my supplements (collagen and vitamin D). I also want to keep my floordrobe in check so anyone at any time can do a spot check on my floordrobe by demanding I take a picture of it or tell them the state of it RIGHT NOW and if it is messy then I have to punch myself in the face. Or something.

 

4.       REHAB

I want my shoulder to get better so I can go on Ultimate Beastmaster (just kidding, women never do well on that because they’re generally too short for the jumps and the course is designed with men in mind #EverydaySexism) but I do want my shoulder to get better anyway. It’s causing problems further down and I now have Tennis Elbow too. I have physio exercises for my shoulder and I have found some for the Tennis Elbow so I will do these and try to make as much progress for when I have my appointment with the shoulder specialist next month.  

 

5.       MONITOR

I am going back to my graphs because I find it super duper motivating. I will do daily weigh ins and daily calorie monitoring, and every week I am going to stand in front of TH so he can tell me if he sees any progress being made and where, because subjective monitoring is important too. He did beg me not to make it just about the butt because he hates being my butt judge because he doesn’t know what he’s looking for. So I made it a more general “HONEY, DO I LOOK HOTTER?” question, and I know he will tell me the truth.

 

So that’s it, pretty basic. I do want a prize for this but I have looked and there is no lingerie I really want, or any clothes I have seen that have captured my heart so I will leave this open until I see something I actually want.

 

New challenge, goooooo!

I love that you are considering multiple forms of yoga/"yoga" as exercise options. Very good and healthy mindset :-)

The dressing room floordrobe is mostly fine except I have a couple of bags of clean washing to put away but when I got into bed last night I didn't fold my pj trousers or hoodie up at the end of my bed and they are just laying about on the floor. I will do better!

Sunday Update

 

I made us a big breakfast yesterday morning of sausage and mushroom sammiches because that kinda stuff will be a rarity going forward when I am starving myself like the good old days, then we played video games until TH's football match came on, during which he went in the bath to watch it and I did my workout. After this I paraded around in front of him so he could get a baseline for the HONEY DO I LOOK HOTTER question, shouting "LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT HOW HOT I AM" because I am nothing if not modest. We went to my parents for a sunday roast and my aunt is still here visiting. We talked about a family mystery which I didn't even realise was a mystery and it was pretty depressing but also super fascinating. We stayed there for longer than we planned so by the time we got home it was pretty late. We loaded the dishwasher and I did the lunches which now takes aeons since I have to weigh and track everything in my snack box to ensure I don't exceed my calories. We had a lot of laundry we should have put away but we had limited time and chose to have sex instead - no ragrets. Then we watched an episode of Beastmaster and came to bed at a reasonable time but I couldn't sleep because my titties were too hot. I don't mean that I was kept awake thinking about how great my titties are, I mean they felt like fucking fireballs attached to my chest and I can honestly say that in the 25 years I have wielded titties I have never experienced that before so that was new. I am tired today, but the fireball titties have calmed the fuck down which is something I guess. 

 

Let's see what today holds.

wow, in the midst of all the action (and "action") of that post, the family mystery is interesting. Hope it brought you guys closer together somehow and/or that you are able to help each other deal with the sad parts of it.

Ha, it's nothing like that at all. I'd much rather he be honest with me and he very much is. Like when I got my fringe cut in. He hated it at first. He has also agreed with me on my weight gain but it's not like he's horrible about it at all - it's a simple fact and I can handle the truth, however much I don't like it as long as it is actually the truth.

Ha, no. My family aren't like that at all. We mostly just say things, then look off into the distance with an "well ain't that some shit" look on our faces and we never speak of it again. 

 

It's our way of dealing with things :D

My food for today

 

Sardine salad (tomato, radish, cucumber and light mayonnaise)

My available food snack box - a cherry yoghurt, 5 cocktail sausages, a mini babybel, a hard boiled egg, 2 satsumas, 100g mixed olives, melba toasts and a Fry's Orange Cream. I didn't need to eat everything so I didn't eat everything.

The sardine salad sounds interesting; I'm going to have to put that on my list.  I've been doing sardines on crackers and I like them quite a bit.

It's an easy, cheap, low cal protein to chuck on the salad. I'm trying to eat more oily fish, but not too much because I am still child bearing age and mercury levels and all that (who knew it was so fraught, I'm glad I did my research)

I don't think I used a recipe for that one, I just pulled it out of my arse (so to speak) like all my curry recipes but I can write it down next time I make it because it's very low calorie and full of the good stuff!

Monday Update

 

First day back at work and it wasn't that much fun but not as traumatic as it could be (because I just got the heck on with it). I spent the first hour like I do whenever I return from annual leave - so just trying to remember how to do my job. Seriously, I drop all that knowledge at the door the second I leave so it takes me a while to gather the fragments of that knowledge together again so I can go back to pretending I know what I am doing which is the best it ever gets #Adulting. I was crazy busy and I had a lot to do. There was a very positive conversation with my manager about the future so I will wait and see what happens with that. I fasted until lunch at around 1:15 when I ate my sardine salad and the yoghurt. I was hungry in the afternoon so skived off to scarf those mini sausages and I ate the Babybel on the train on the way home. 

 

I picked up TH from work and we warmed up the saag and did the rice for dinner. I then ate the orange cream, and had a cup of herbal tea because I was pretty hungry and wondered if it was thirst masquerading as hunger. It wasn't - I ate the olives and as I was assembling today's lunches I ate the egg. I left the Melba Toasts and satsumas and finished the day at 1566 calories which was due to a tracking error as I thought that was a beef and chickpea saag but on closer inspection there was no beef in it (it was a meal I had backed up a few weeks ago in the freezer, and I have no memory of cooking it at all. Maybe it just appeared, who knows) so I had more calories to work with than I originally thought. 

 

I did my physio in the evening because my shoulder is terrible again. My job does not help this at all but like I said to my physio when she suggested signing me off work - work is not the problem, it's whatever is wrong with my shoulder and until I have any indication of how this is going to be treated long term I am not happy to be off work with it because that's not the right thing to do. I'm getting pretty fed up of it already though. I am in a lot of pain :(

I'm so sorry for the shoulder pain.  :-(  I hope that's sorted soon.

 

Also I wish random curries would appear in my freezer!
