KB Girl
Right after this challenge is the kettlebell sport world championship. It's in a giant sport complex just outside of Dublin on 23-26th of may. I'll be competing in second division, which for women uses 2x16kg kettlebells. (First division is 2x20kg, Pro devision is 2x24kg). I'll also be playing representative to my national federation and coaching my team. There'll be around 18 people from the Netherlands, at least 10 from my gym/team. We have no Pro lifters yet, but I do have 2 lifters in first division this year. So... challenge; 1. Train - every week; snatch 2x, jerk 2x, longcycle 1x, oly lift 1x, squat 1x, deadlift 1x - try to accumulate 100km of rowing over the 5 weeks - keep a lunges, push and pull counter 2. Sleep - keep folding laundry before bed - lower green bed time to 22:30, yellow to 23:30 3. Eat vegetables three times a day....... - at least one of which has to be green - and eat fatty fish every week Well I had to add a nutrition goal.. I have reasonably healthy habits that I have relied on for the past 3 years without making any kind of improvement.. I tried to drop some weight last challenge but I guess I'm just really not ready for that yet. I think I'll compete in a higher weight class for worlds and just focus on improving something small. Let's go! 6 Quote KB Quest: becoming a decent kettlebell lifter and an excellent coach 2023 goals tracker; 591/5000km & reading to my kids 48/365 days (updated march-22) my instagram - my gym's instagram Link to comment

Benefits of a tiny fringe sport It's honestly a bit of a dilemma.. it's either under 75 or over 75.. I'm at 77,5 - so I might end up losing that weight without doing anything as I'm normally just under 75 and have just been stress eating too much.. so... if I decide to go with 75+ I'll have to actually keep my weight high enough to be able to compete (and no you can't weigh with clothes on). I have until april 23th to decide.. Maybe I should go -75 because I can always dump some water, but ugh. KB Girl
Once I started doodling I couldn't stop x) The rowing is not on there, because I am tracking it on a different page.. it's a long story, but I was challenged to row 1 million meters in 1 year.. which is crazy, but also inspiring. Even if I don't make it, I'm curious what it will do to my endurance/fitness and body. I've been building up my rowing the past 2 challenges, but I'm slow and everything hurts after a bit, so I couldn't quite make the 20k yet.. let's see what happens this week (every square is 1000m) 4 Quote KB Quest: becoming a decent kettlebell lifter and an excellent coach 2023 goals tracker; 591/5000km & reading to my kids 48/365 days (updated march-22) my instagram - my gym's instagram Link to comment

KB Girl
Monday was a rest day and I spend it gardening and doodling in the evening. The KB child is now big enough to appreciate gardening and it'll be nice for her to learn where food comes from. (only edible stuff in my garden, it's a rule). I also had some work hours in the morning and I spend those finishing the training plans for my athletes. I have only a vague idea of what I'm doing, but that seems to be the norm and it seems to be enough so I'm rolling with it. Tuesday was a work day and I spend it.. avoiding doing the taxes, when I didnt have clients anyway. So I did my training at 21:30, which wasn't ideal for bed time. But I did the training (2:30 jerks with 2x18kg at a 12 pace, a PR.. an easy deadlift wave ladder and a total of 2k rowing) and I ate 3 servings of veggies (carrots and cucumbers with lunch, tomato soup for a snack and green beans for dinner). 3 Quote KB Quest: becoming a decent kettlebell lifter and an excellent coach 2023 goals tracker; 591/5000km & reading to my kids 48/365 days (updated march-22) my instagram - my gym's instagram Link to comment

KB Girl
Oops! A week flew by! I had a great training week, easter was also lovely. Emma (2yo) had some night terrors so I am a little rough around the edges from lack of sleep now and did skip my training yesterday. Today (Wednesday) I can't make it to the gym so that's a bummer.. but hopefully I can still finish this week strong. Rowing is going well, I did 7000 meters in week zero and I've gotten a great start with 4000 on Monday and 2000 yesterday. This is where I'm at now.. and the plan is to resume regular updates 5 Quote KB Quest: becoming a decent kettlebell lifter and an excellent coach 2023 goals tracker; 591/5000km & reading to my kids 48/365 days (updated march-22) my instagram - my gym's instagram Link to comment

Elastigirl
Nice week zero! Night terrors are so bad. My son had them, and we couldn't wake him up, he would just be almost hysterical crying, and we would talk to him and he couldn't even hear us. Such a powerless feeling as a parent. He was also prone to nightmares as a kid. I asked him lately if he still gets nightmares, and he said he doesn't remember most of his dreams. We could wake her up, but it wasn't until the third night that we realised we should work on waking her up instead of just trying to console her.. Wednesday wasn't a complete loss training wise, I did some pull-up work at the playground and we went for a long hike- I was very sore when we got back home. Then when I took Emma to bed I fell asleep with her and didn't wake up until 2 in the morning- I took off my glasses and my clothes and went right back to sleep x) Today (thursday) was a very good training day- I got to the gym at 11:00 and did some rowing first, 2000 meters in 9:30, while listening to 'that American life'. Then at 13:00 a team mate came in to do her jerk sets and I joined her (sets of 1:00 on, 1:00 off with increasing and then decreasing weight, I did 14-16-18-20-22-20-18-16-14). Then at 16:30 my baby sister came to train with me and we did squats (5x5 @50kg), deadlifts (7x3 @70kg), reverse lunges (3x6/6 @25kg, holy shit that hurt), pushups, negative pull-ups and we finished by rowing another 2000m. I also got some really nice feedback from one of the pregnant ladies I'm coaching and she mentioned that her midwifes* wanted to know where she was training so they could recommend it to other clients. Which is cool. I'm working on finishing that course/certification for training pregnant and post partum women and then I'd really like to work with a couple more ladies. *In the Netherlands we still all work with midwifes, unless a birth is considered high risk. Also 40% of babies are still born at home. It was a bit of a shock for me finding out that that's not how the rest of the world does it and that you're considered pretty hard core for choosing to give birth at home in any other 'western' country. 5 Quote KB Quest: becoming a decent kettlebell lifter and an excellent coach 2023 goals tracker; 591/5000km & reading to my kids 48/365 days (updated march-22) my instagram - my gym's instagram Link to comment

Interesting. Home births are more the exceptions here. Though we are having a rise in birthing centers, which are mid-wives that are in centers built for delivering babies.
