Welcome back to a new challenge!

After going through many restriction/binge cycles I stumbled onto intuitive eating last October. I went through the steps, read "Brain over Binge" and now I'm completely binge free, and have a much better relationship with food and my body.

But now I have to figure out what "normal eating" means for me.

Two challenges ago I tried to count kcal again, but that caused binge thoughts, so I quickly stopped (after about 2/3 weeks). BUT all that counting did made one thing clear: my protein intake was really low. So last challenge I focused on eating more protein rich foods. I didn't count, didn't restrict, just made sure I added protein wherever I could. This made me feel a lot better during the day: more stable energy, less cravings.

I also started intermittent fasting (IE) again. Intermittently that is ;) When I was really hungry I ate. When I thought I could go on for a bit, I fasted. I never want to go back to binging, so I made it a point to listen to my body as best as I could. IE makes my asthma go away, and with that improves my energy and makes my digestion feel a lot better. It's also good for my mental health: knowing that I don't HAVE TO eat when I'm not hungry, or when nothing sounds good to me. I won't die from starvation, or faint from lack of food :p

So this challenge I'm going to play around with my macro's even more. I've always been used to a high carb, low protein, moderate/low fat diet. I'm curious to see what will happen if I change this completely. So I'm going to start with a complete 180: high fat/moderate protein/low carb. Not counting anything, just winging it. I've counted long enough to know what foods are high in carbs, and I can read labels if I'm unfamiliar with a certain food. But I'm not going to let food interfere with life: parties, family get togethers, and just family dinner (although that's pretty healthy and not too carb heavy already). Just trying to keep a healthy balance :)  Let's see how this will make me feel and move on from there. I want to do this for the length of this challenge, but if I start to feel like crap I will adjust sooner.

This challenge I'm keeping up my fitness routine: dance twice a week and lift twice a week.

Last challenge I toyed with circuit style workouts. It reduced the time of the workout, but it also reduced the weight I could use.

So last week I tried to watch netflix on my laptop while lifting. So far it works. Workouts are about 30 minutes (including warming up and stretching afterwards), and rests aren't that boring. I'm going to keep this up until it get's boring again and then I'm sure I find something else to make it more interesting ;)

I am so much in love with how much compassion you are showing your body with this challenge. No judgement, letting life happen, but still moving forward and trying new things <3

Monday

Perfection: I did my lifting in the morning, focused on choosing low carb foods. I was fairly hungry, so I allowed myself to eat. I felt great.

Tuesday

My dance teacher is on vacation this week, so no dancing today. I dis get a lot of work done. Stayed low carb and felt good. In the evening I didn't feel so great anymore and was really craving something with more carbs, so I ate. I felt good again.

Wednesday

Shark attack. I wanted all the carbs, so I ate them. I was satisfied much sooner than I was expecting so I didn't eat all the things. No workout happened because stupid sharks.

I come with an animal gif offering

Oh I kind of want to read this book Brain Over Binge, I am relatively healthy but still occasionally get a little tick in my brain which makes me compusively buy sweets and icecream. Ignoring that tick has become very difficult. Really excited that your efforts have worked out for you and I am excited to hear what happens on your low carb journey (I have thought and read about it a lot). Just a little 2 cents about low carb make sure you get enough salts and water, your body will have trouble retaining salt and water while in a low carbohydrate state. So be super generous with salt on food and make sure you get potassium through something like Salt Free Salt (I know its actually a thing) and maybe go on magnesium supplements. Sodium, Potassium and Magnesium are really the three salt you want to replenish. Good luck and I will cheer you on and come back with more animal gif offerings!!! :)

Thanks for the tips! I'm not going extremely low carb. Mostly because I just want to eat dinner with the rest of the family. But I will keep it in mind for if I don't feel so good :)

Friday

Good Friday, so the boys had the day off. I did some work in the morning and went to the petting zoo and the ice cream store with the boys in the afternoon. I just ate what my body asked as I still felt shitty from that shark attack. Still no dancing as my dance instructor was away on vacation.

Watched Jesus Christ Superstar with the boys (partly). I thought they were too young, but they actually liked it.

Saturday

Lots of playing the sims, some chores.

Sunday

We had planned a late brunch (like 3 pm late) at my sisters house. When I checked which train to take the website told me there were no trains, only buses. As I (and now A too) get really, really motion sick in buses this wasn't an option. Same with cars. Biking would have been an option, but not with the boys. They can't bike that far and our cargo bike is really old and can't do long distances anymore. So I suggested we would have the brunch at our house. My sister refused... I'm still pissed about that. My parents agreed to have coffee at our place before they headed to my sisters house, so at least we got to see them.

Monday

Easter Brunch at my MIL's place (which is in biking distance, even for our old cargo bike). We had fun. My SIL, who has been suffering from burn out and depression for the last 1,5 years is doing a lot better, and even started working again :) I'm so glad she's doing well again <3

Tuesday

Back to low carb. I honored my hunger, but at the end of the day my body was SHOUTING at me. I also noticed binge thoughts, bad body image thoughts, very strong cravings and other mental garbage that I didn't had to deal with in months. So I'm thinking I went too hard too fast. No more low carb, and no restriction for at least a week before I will dive back into what kind of nutrition will make me feel good.

Dancing was really fun. My teacher was well rested from his vacation and had all sorts of fun ideas.

Wednesday

Worked a lot. Had an ice coffee at the ice cream store. Now I'm tired and happy

Yeah well, being nauseous during a big brunch isn't ideal :p So it was definitely the right call.

I haven't been checking in for a while. I'm still doing good :)  Just taking a little internet break.

No social media, youtube and internet in general (except for work stuff) for a bit. Unless I'm working out, then I can watch youtube and do other fun things on my phone :D

I've been doing this for a few days now, and I'm actually reading a real, physical book again. It has been ages since I took the time to do this. It's nice.

No idea how long I'll be doing this, but it feels good for now.
