Hello, lovely Assassins.

 

I dropped off the face of the forums a bit last challenge! I'll try to do better this time around. Some mental health stuff, some travel, some outright busy-ness. I seem to be deep in a patch of this kind of stuff, so I'm going to try to keep this another pretty simple month for goals.

 

This month, I'll be sharing my favorite workout songs. This one never fails to get me pumping, and as a bonus is also one of my top two favorite songs about werewolves. (God damn, TV on the Radio are just consistently fantastic.)

 

 

GOALS:

  • 3 workouts per week. Two of those are karate classes so I can get my perfect attendance certificate.
    • Pass green belt test. (3 weeks away, I think?)
  • Cook a mostly green meal prep once per week.
  • Block out four hours of long-term project work every Monday.

 

 

If you're new to my whole deal: I'm a middle-aged librarian bi vegetarian Assassin who's multi-classing with some Monk levels, and I meditate and climb a little and write a little, and, man, there's like three years of threads if you really want to catch up but just hop on

I literally had to press play on Wolf again while I'm typing this. (I also have a soft spot for "Werewolves of London" since I loved it as a kid.)

 

(I see a YT comment that says ""this song isn't about werewolves. It is about loud unadulterated nasty love making" to which I answer IT CAN BE TWO THINGS)

Yeah girl. Laserray is my other fave TVOTR track (it is on my "superhero" workout playlist).

Short on sleep today; I had to go yell politely at the neighbors for waking us up with a loud conversation on their front porch, and that always stresses me out so much that it takes me like an hour to go back to sleep. I am looking forward to crashing hard tonight.

 

Our trip to CA last week was wonderful and fun and relaxing. We ate and drank and spent a fair amount of time hiking in state parks, as our friends have become more outdoorsy than they used to be. (They have a big active doggo now, which I think contributes.)

 

Turns out I do not need to learn a new form for the next belt test, which is weird. (If I pass I earn my green belt and *then* start learning green belt form. Okay, cool man, one less thing to sweat this month.)

 

I have a presentation Wednesday for which I'm almost ready after I brush up my slides a little.

 

Oh! And just registered for the Pride 5K in June.

Excited for this one, I am always on the lookout for new tracks to add to my workout playlists :)

Nice!  When is your belt test?  Also, have you started sparring yet?

Belt test is May 17. I was going to start sparring last week, but travel plans screwed with that. I'm planning to do technique class Monday and sparring Thursday as my regular routine starting this week, and see how that goes.

Okay, team. Unless you're very new to my threads you knew I was gonna go heavy on the Bowie:

 

 

Hallo Spaceboy makes me move every time. I'm sitting at my desk listening to it now and my foot is tapping tapping tapping with that inexorable drum, and I think my heart rate even went up a little as soon as it started. I want to jump up and make noise, but, you know, library.

 

WEEKEND: I made homemade pizza with greek salad Saturday, stir-fried veggies and tofu yesterday for dinner. Saturday there was no karate class, so I've blown my perfect attendance streak for this class cycle, but there's always next time.

 

TODAY: I'm about to block out my project time (just spent an hour getting slides ready for Wednesday and sending them off to the org I'm doing the presentation for, so I'm counting that as well). Tonight is karate class.


THIS WEEK: Thursday I'm finally going to start sparring. Watched a Japanese TV show that showed little kids doing it, so I am telling myself I can handle it.

My promotion just passed the penultimate step (Provost's office). The university president just has to sign off on it and then it's official.

DID IT. It was a lot of fun. I got to punch a couple of black belts.

THAT WAS FUN TOO. Seriously, punching people is way more intimidating than being punched. I had a great time and the instructor said I did really well for my first go.

Yeah, baby. That's definitely me.

 

The downside is that I left some of my gear behind -- I'm just not used to having all that stuff with me to bring home, and I was a little dazed and wiped out after the experience, and I think I just left my gloves and a couple of other things on the floor. I emailed as soon as I realized, and they will probably pick them up and put them aside for me, but I'm really pissed at myself and hoping I'm not out 100 bucks to replace gear I used once. They'll probably email me this morning to tell me they have my stuff, though.

Me too. And everyone knew which headgear was mine, because one of my class buddies kept calling me Magneto. But still, I'm glad to know it's safely accounted for. (I meant to take a selfie in sparring gear for you lovelies, and that's another thing I forgot. I'll try to remember next week.)

The music is a little too much for me x) I'm such a softie. 

I can totally imagine punching someone being far more intimidating than getting punched! Also seems fun though :D
