Had an afternoon beer at work chatting with my colleague. He's been working on a huge side project for a long, long time now, and he gently approached me about helping out. At first I was a bit dismissive in my head, but now having thought about it a little I'm actually really flattered that he'd even consider me. Like this person is on a completely different level than me, he's even written a book right. And he knows very well that I don't take an active interest in software development outside of work and let's be real that I'm kinda lazy hahaa. And yet he trusts me enough and thinks that I would be useful. I'm a little concerned about the potential time investment (especially screen time) but it's also a potentially cool opportunity and who knows where it might lead? Even if it's nowhere it's still a neat learning opportunity. Also why do I get the feeling that he's been sneakily priming me all this time hmmm?

This sounds like the kind of thing that could turn into a really life altering adventure, especially if the side project takes off and become a primary project.  Are you considering moving forward with it?

Yeah I am! I don't think I'll be able to dedicate a lot of time to it, but it would be fun to help no matter the outcome. :) And at the moment there's a lot of work but no rush so that wouldn't be a problem.

I agree with WhiteGhost. It looks interesting. Has he told you which would your roll be, exactly, so you can think seriously about it?

I like this type of tiny actions. That's one of the ways I use to add me time along the day.

Umm calling it a "role" is a bit overkill, it's really not at that stage yet as it's a pet project with zero funding. For now it really would be for fun and to help out.

Tiny actions FTW. For chores this is particularly perfect because I hate it so much. :P

I'm sorry your Thursday was a downer, but reading your 'grasping at straws' positive action list really helped me look more positively at my own downer day, so- thank you x) <3

My form felt really rather solid on squats after my warm up exercises, but on the flip side my quads got tired early and I struggled a little with the weight.

That could be a good sign really, if you're loading your quads more, it might feel harder at first but it's probably a good thing :)

Positive actions

  • Didn't bail on the bike ride even though it was SNOWING. Only the most minuscule snow fall ever, but still.
  • Morning gym
  • Finished off the thing I've been working on for most of this week

Woo - so many positives! Sorry you had a bit of a rough go of it yesterday - sounds like we both had one of those days this week.

Two things:

1. You can have beer AT WORK? I don't care how cold it is, I'm moving to Finland ASAP.

2. Sounds like he played a great game of chess!

This is great I think. Is it paid? If yes, it could be interesting to start developing multiple revenue streams. If not, it could still evolve that way and it's always good xp imo.

So when do we get snippets about Iran? :)

We do what we can eh? :)

Not sure if I loaded the quads more or if they were more fatigued when I started. Either way it felt good, so let's see if I can repeat it next week!

Hey it happens. :)

Of course, it's Friday. And we try to keep a fairly well stocked fridge. ;)

Haha I doubt it's a conscious thing, he's one of the most straightforward people I know! Sneaky plans and games are really not his thing.

And what it is! I'm curious what this side project is all about :) But I totally understand keeping it on the down low. Don't want anyone stealing any great ideas :)

Ahh I don't want to tell what it is until he's made it official. I guess what I can say is that it's a tool for other developers, not muggles. ;) It's already in a working pre-release stage, but there's a shit ton of work to do with nice new features etc and that's where he realized it's getting too much to do on his own.

Nah there's no money at this point. But who knows? And as you say, I'm happy to do it for the XP and simply to help out!

Btw I let him know today. :o Kinda excited! And feeling very much out of my depth. :P

I spend 10 minutes on Finnish yesterday for my do MOAR stuff goal, as I realized I needed SLEEP more than anything else!

It was a good call too, as I woke up super energetic and went out for another "parkour"/handstand walk in the morning as it was so much fun last time. :D

Basically I was on my regular walk and whenever I found something to jump onto/over/from or balance on that's what I did. :P I found a nice little tick tack challenge between a bunch of rocks that I only gave a few attempts on that would be cool to complete. I also did a few box jumps and a few sets of depth jumps to start conditioning my joints.

Finally I ended up at a playground where I tried a little swing backflip that I saw in @DoubleTrouble's thread! They were super fun, but it will take a little more time to override the reflex of holding on. I also noticed that to do them with more swing I need to tuck faster and it turns out that my abs get tired very quickly from trying to do that and towards the end I lost the ability to flip over for a little while until they recovered. Uggh feels like conditioning is in my future. ;)

Morning movement - Yes

Yes, parkour plus handstands outside

Do MOAR things - Yes

Token Finnish. Not the point of this goal haha but we gotta start somewhere.

Positive actions

  • Morning training + lots of outside time
  • Listened to my body and rested/tried to nap after my morning training
  • Listened to my body and didn't push hard at climbing
  • Small amount of Finnish
  • Had a long chat with a friend in crisis while in the super market lol
  • Said yes to collaborate on project!

Less positive - it turned out that even though I tried to keep my morning workout at a lower intensity I took on more than I could chew and ended up really fatigued at climbing in the afternoon. I did a few climbs but every single move was SUCH a struggle. I called it quits pretty early but stayed for a bit to hang out and listen to the good tunes. :)

This part was alright but then I made the mistake of going grocery shopping at the big supermarket while tired and hungry. I literally spend an HOUR wandering around trying to find stuff, while chatting to my friend, and getting closer and closer to a meltdown lol. In the end I abandoned my initial meal idea for a ready made ravioli thing. Which I then abandoned for, ummm, doritos and smoked ham. :hopelessness::hopelessness::hopelessness:

One day I will learn to never go grocery shopping in that store post climbing. One day. :P

Then my body betrayed me and I couldn't fall asleep for hours and hours. Le sigh. So now I'm still dead but hey it's sunny and lovely so I can go chill outside. Just have to remember to not do anything fun on my walk. ;)

I hope you're feeling better now.
