JessFit's Time to Grow

JessFit

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled to be a home owner by the end of this challenge! Holy WOW! I still have a hard time believing this is happening. I'm focusing on growing in to a stronger person, a more consistent person, I more understanding person. Home owning is a huge deal for me because my life has not been entirely stable as an adult, so achieving this stability is a huge reflection of the work I've done and the growing I've managed. I'm still not done though. This challenge is going to be a little bit odd, I want to focus on getting as strong as possible, I need to focus on the correct steps for moving forward in my life, so I'm only setting 4 goals, and they're going to be fairly simple.

Goal 1: Stay 80% compliant with my meal plan. I've got to buy a house, I don't have monies for snacks and eating out. That being said, this challenge is gonna have "I'm a new homeowner" pizza and champagne while I sit on the floor of my brand new empty condo after signing the papers. There is also Pride and friends visiting from out of town, so that will be a bit of a struggle. Currently 86.67% compliant.

Goal 2: Chin-up and pull-up work 4x a week: 0/20

Goal 3: Lift 2X week. I'd prefer this to be higher, but I'll be content if I can get 2x in. 0/10

Goal 4: Cardio 1x/week: 0/5

Awesome, congrats on the house! 80% compliance with some pizza sounds very sensible and moderate. Good luck!

Yooooo, yeah!  I totally get it.  I was a happy little renter when the landlord said he was going to sell and suddenly I was a "motivated buyer."

Agreed on both parts... The first time something breaks or you need big renovations, it is scary as hell as well. Suddenly, everything costs money, you have to find reliable handymen, etc. This is okay, and the anxiety really diminishes in time. The freedom of owning your own house is really worth it :).

Personally not a fan of pizza and champagne. Pizza and cab sauv on the other hand... all the fats and spices on the pizza go really well with robust red wines. :)

I might actually get cab myself, but pizza and champagne just has an air of approachable decadence to it as a phrase.

Or maybe I make French 75's!

I don't think it's just you - time for you to house / apartment hunt? Not that I'd wish moving on anyone, really.

Ew, no.

We like our house, and have vague notions of selling it and moving after we pay off the mortgage. This summer we celebrate a decade in our very nice home :)

I'm not sure I'll be having them together, but they'll probably both happen the night of closing!

I agree, it feels like half of the guild is moving right now.

I forgot to work on chin-ups much this week... oops. I can still hit my goal if I do them every day for the rest of the week. I worked chest and shoulders last night, I've been very unmotivated, but I forced myself to go last night and I'm glad that I did. I'm enjoying seeing what my body is shaping in to now that I'm back to lifting heavy things. Kept bench moderately light and didn't push myself too much, 3 sets of 5 at 80#. I LOVE my gym, the 53 year old guy in front of me was benching 0ver 600lbs for his work weight last night.

I REALLY need to figure out a program to follow, I hate doing my own programming but I am not budgeted for that expense for the foreseeable future. I doubt myself far too much for me to write my own programming.

I'm having some issues with moving out of my apartment, they're trying to not let me out of my lease. Please please please send me good thoughts on that front, I desperately need them.

Goal 1:  93.75%/80% compliant.

Goal 2: Chin-up and pull-up work 4x a week: 1/20

Goal 3: Lift 2X week. I'd prefer this to be higher, but I'll be content if I can get 2x in. 1/10

Goal 4: Cardio 1x/week: 1/5

Wut. Is that even possible. Isn't that like 6 big-girl plates on each side and then some? Too shocked to even feel impressed.

Ugh, I hope the lease and move goes as planned. I'm imagining little pixellated spaceships exploding the lease in my mind's eye with little pixellated laser beams. That's what you meant by good thoughts, right?

YES GOOD THOUGHTS! I love these good thoughts!

Also, Beau is kinda incredible... he used to play pro football for a smidge in the 80s, and he holds all kinds of bench records. Here is his IG, because you don't have to believe me, you can see for yourself. This is kinda normal for my gym, like, my best squat is 250 @ 150 and I'm a weakling where I train.

I look online for free programs... how set are you on spending money on this?

For at least the next 6 months or so (moving, and then time to replenish the bank account) free is ideal! I'm willing to spend a bit, but I really can't afford having someone do my monthly programming right now. I think I'm also overwhelmed by the number of programs out there, I'm not even sure where to start sometimes. I used to do my own programming, but the little monsters inside my head fill me with self doubt and it ends poorly when I do my own programming.

A few weeks ago, when I was going to move to a new program, I started here. Their short summaries and the way I could hop back and forth and compare the programs they list, really helped to un-overwhelm me when I needed it. :)

Another good free program / template-ish thing is GZCL - I think @raptron is currently running some variation of it and liking it so far! http://swoleateveryheight.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-gzcl-method-simplified_13.html is the blog post I found, but I think tron found a spreadsheet template somewhere too that she modified to fit her needs. I'm also using it as a template / inspiration for how I program my rings and parallettes work.
