Teirin

Teirin's standards have never been lower.....

Recommended Posts

So, another challenge passed with me doing very little.  I got a tiny bit done on a few projects but not enough.  I have been letting "I'm tired, it's fine to take the night off" go on far too much and now I'm paying the consequences.  Also, eating my stress.  Results:  shoulder pain, weight gain, and sweet fuck all done on most anything except work and basic maintenance stuff.

I did pay off the last on my debt though.  Now debt free for the first time since I started university in 1998!  That was a big checkoff on my epic quest.

The goals for this challenge are to do *literally anything but spend each evening on the internet*.  Seriously low standards here.

Go back to Nia Shank's Beautiful Badass workout.  Sunday --> Wednesday.  Saturday is bonus.

I'm scheduled all day Thursday and Friday.  Saturday is tight.  Substitute something else if I feel like it.  This worked well in the past until I made it complicated and stopped doing it.  Don't make it complicated.  3 sets to start with.

Pick anything to do each day before settling in to the internet:

  • Work on Solarpunk presentation.  5 weeks left so this needs to be completed this challenge.
  • Trip paperwork
  • Cook something bigger than supper
  • Work on guitar
  • knit
  • read actual books
  • work on the garden
  • work on my game
  • Plan supplies for cabin weekend in August.  (Another epic quest!)

Completed 3 sets of the workout, stretched, and foam rolled.  My shoulder is less angry.  Now anyway.  I did add 10 burpees per set, which was an acceptable addition per the program.

Other stuff:

Not much yet, but I did collect some additional good resources for the presentation and set up a solarpunk page on MeWe, which seems cool so far.

I'm stepping in just to congratulate you on the debt killing (really no small achievement) and cheer you on the "going for low standards but bloody reach them" approach of your challenge.

Then I'm getting out of here as my way to support you to achieve this (and not at all because I know I'll be too busy/lazy to check later):

Remember, any challenge you keep showing up for is a success.

Oh God, those boots. I love shoes, or at least I love looking at them. I just hate actually wearing them.

Following! Jealous of you killing your student loans.

Thank you!  Took me 14 years.  Felt like they would never end.

Thanks :-)  I figure if I can trip over the bar, I'll likely make it.

Cheers.  So, I shouldn't tell you that the same store has a black on black pair?

Week 0, Day 2 - Workout done!  I had to downgrade the pullups and pistol squats a bit.  I perhaps underestimated how out of shape I am.  Everything else is ok at least. My burpee stamina must be rebuilt.

Making some food and chocolate banana muffins.  I'm going to try and get back to Ted Chiang's first story compilation tonight too.  No guarantees.

Last night did end up involving more work on the presentation.  This is good.  What was bad was sleep.  The first night before the work week is always bad and last night was rather worse than usual.  My ears had pressure from sinus fluid behind the eardrum and my ears would not pop enough to drain it, my shoulder ached all night, and I was awake every 90 min.  It felt more like dozing than sleeping, but I presumably got down to deep sleep at some point.  Bleh.  I think I got my ears to pop enough today to sleep better tonight.

Those black boots look awesome, especially with that Tree of Gondor looking thing on the tongue. It looks like something Princess Shuri (Black Panther's sister and gadget wizard) designed after nerding out on Lord of the Rings.

Congratulations on getting out of debt! That is a huge win!

Welcome back on board with your challenge. I hear you about doing small things consistently. Hopefully more exercise will mean fewer aches and better sleep.

Got the workout done.  Got some chores done but not really feeling like that quite counts for doing something else before hitting the internet.  Will try to read before bed.

Thanks!  It was a long slog, but I got there.

Should be so!  There was more sleep last night and that helps.

Game night so no workout as planned, but also no internet.  Caught up with a friend afterwards, and possibly got very arm-wavy and enthused on several topics.

Generally noting that my junk food intake plummeted as soon as I started working out again.  I do wonder how exactly those are related.  There are several possibilities there. Anyway, good night.

Saturday was too busy, which is why that one was optional.  Got lots done at least.  Nice greens from the market too <3

Sunday

Workout - sorted, albeit without burpees.  I left it too late and it would have been too loud over the neighbours.  I may have also just not done it with them.

Spent time on a videogame event in FFXIV (crossover with FFXV involving a sweet 4 person car mount and Noctis' outfit).  Also read some Numenera stuff and started plotting out a trial one-shot to see how the system works.

Minimum goals have been met.  Well enough.

I have to use this

Workout sorted.  My pushups are starting to recover already.  Squats as well.  My left leg remains significantly stronger than my right.

Burpees will need to be left out for now.  The toe that was long term infected/aggravated a few months ago is not in great shape.  Looks like a new nail is shoving the old one out of the way and it looks awful with some possible blood underneath it.  That last bit only showed up after workouts started.  Maybe coincidence, maybe aggravating.  No jumping for now.  At least I was already stocked with epsom salts. (appt with Dr will follow if it gets worse or doesn't resolve)

Worked a bit late, then got a few chores sorted and some FF dailies.  Food prep and workout took another chunk of remaining evening.  Off to read and soak my foot.  Sleep was garbage last night and will hopefully be better tonight.  Or not feature irrational 4 am brain.  That would be lovely.  (4 am brain was trying to convince me that the foot was rotting, which is visibly not true.  It wasn't working but it was annoying.)

The burpees were an optional addon.  You might like Nia Shanks.

Glad to hear you have your workout sorted and your strength is coming back.

That toe sounds aggravating. I hope it is now healing well and will get back to normal soon.

1.  I have backslid

2. I will start fixing it tomorrow (things happened today)

3. I got the nicest early birthday present!  A drop spindle, a book on how to use it, and two bags of starter wool!!!!!  It's so pretty!  Pics will follow tomorrow when I have more light.

Yay for getting a starter spinning kit!

That is how I started, many many years ago. I am pleased to report that I taught my friend how to spin last week. She had a couple small bags of angora rabbit fiber. I taught her the extremely low tech method of twisting the fiber with her fingers and winding the resulting yarn on a pencil. Using a drop spindle makes the process much easier.

So more things happened yesterday.  Cally is now diabetic.  She got diagnosed yesterday and I was trained on injecting her with insulin and testing her blood sugar.  Gave her her second injection this morning and that went a bit better than the first one in training yesterday.  I'm still fairly afraid of needles, but she will get any meds she needs.  My nerves were fairly shot after everything, and I walked a lot and aggravated my foot yesterday.

You have continued to show up. This is success.

You and the cat will settle into a routine. It'll be fine.

I'm sorry that Cally is diabetic. I agree with Sarakingdom, you and Cally will both get used to needles. Give her a treat afterwards and she won't have any objections. I was giving Shadow shots once a month for the last couple years of her life. She took it pretty well.

My sympathy on overdoing it enough that your foot protested. This gives you the perfect excuse to lounge with your feet up. ;)
