GodzillaKong
So, losing your job sucks. Never a good time for it to happen, but in terms of whats going on in my life (all good but busy and expensive and stressful) it was pretty awful timing. Only been to the gym once since the start of April until yesterday. But i am back! I have a job now and I'm getting back in the gym. Put on a couple of kilos, but nothing too terrible: 118.9kg as of Monday morning. So, lets get to it.... 4 Days a week Thats how often i need to go to the gym. Thats how often i will go to the gym. Plus a 5th day any weekend I'm not away from home. Eat Well Comfort food has been too readily eaten recently. Time to get back to tracking what i eat. Making an effort to eat more fruit and vegetables and avoid sweets. And measure cereal properly. Run Fatboy Run Ok, maybe not run. Not every time, at least. But every session at the gym will involve some form of cardio, not including the rowing machine in my warm up. 1 Quote Link to comment

Pretty much going from where i left off: upper body twice a week and lower body twice a week. Going to drop the weight a little bit, for this month, to concentrate on my form. Part of me just really wants to get in and smash heavy weights again but i know if i don't build up to it my form will suffer (and with it my health). Quote Link to comment
Deckard Gainz
Welcome back. Condolences on the job loss, congrats on the new one! So you're doing splits but we need the juicy details man! What's the overload progression? 5x5? GVT? Heavy doubles? Periodization? What kinda cardio? Did you make it through the 2nd split after still having DOMS from the 1st? I am struggling with that now and I was only off for a week and a half. Hope your soreness is clearing up! Quote Stay awhile... we're liftin' Link to comment

At the moment doing 4 sets of 10 for everything, whilst i get back into the swing of things. Haven't decided what the plan is after that, bit thinking i might stick to that (albeit with higher weights) for a while. Might go back to 4x15 again. Cardio is probably going to be a mix of exercise bike and running on the treadmill. Nothing exciting. Started off with legs on Monday. Made it through arms and chest on Tuesday. Not going to lie, Wednesday was absolute agony walking around like the villain from MiB. luckily that was my day off. Back doing legs agin tonight. 1 Quote Link to comment

I guess "the bills might not get paid, no wait, its ok" Not sure my advice is going to be anything new or groundbreaking. Take it easy the first week or 2, even if you feel you want to rush headlong into it. Going or not going is a matter of habit, so if you say you're going to go, go. Even if you don't do your whole workout, just make sure you get in there and do something. 1 Quote Link to comment

I tried doing a chest day, and learned the hard way that bench press doesn't quite work on a sprained ankle, if you're used to being able to use a lot of leg drive. Bleh. GodzillaKong
Update time. 4 days a week at the gym hasn't been possible unfortunately, but for good reasons. Life sinlly gets in the way. Had a lot of things which have required lots of my time. Not a total disaster, by any means, I've still been going 3 times a week and getting a good workout in whilst there (more on that later). Eating well has actually gone quite well. A pleasant surprise. Been making sure that i have fruit veg and meaty snacks ready for work so I've got something to munch on without getting tempted by chocolates. No takeaways, no weekday alcohol (and a couple of weekends without it too!). As i said in my OP, running didn't actually mean running, just making sure i did some cardio every session. And I've managed to do that. I have actually managed to get on the treadmill a couple of times, but the exercise bike has been my preferred method of torture. But thats not all. I've moved away from lifting weights for a little bit and concentrated on things like KB Swings and *gulp* Burpees. I've noticed a big difference in terms of weight loss, not just in the scale (back down to 116kg) but in the mirror as well. I'm not feeling as exhausted and i think I'm able to balance exercise and diet better this way. I might keep this up for another challenge or so, see how it goes. 2 Quote Link to comment
Harriet
Great job on the eating and cardio. A couple of kg for one challenge is heaps. Also mirror changes are a good thing to have. 1 Quote Let cheese and oxen and mead crowd out our secret desires for power and domination - Harriet the Viking Just be bold, fluid and unapologetic, not small, hairy and indecisive - Harriet the Artist You can absorb me! - Harriet the Contextless Guru Link to comment
