Autumn is coming challenge

 

I got a job, which is wonderful news, but have fallen into many of the worst habits of office work – too much coffee, too much sugar, too many snacks. I need discipline. And where can one learn discipline better than the Wall?

 

I am also planning to try for another kid this fall, hence the “Autumn is coming”. I need to develop good healthy habits for me and my family, so I can have a successful and healthy pregnancy.

 

Spoilers mostly covered. 

In the peace following the

interregnum between King Robert Baratheon and King Brandon Stark

, and the civil wars that rocked the Seven Kingdoms, as well as the

Spoiler

defeat of the Army of the Dead at the Battle of Winterfell

, Westerosi must adapt to a new way. The population has been decimated, or worse, in the North and Riverlands, and needs to be replenished.

 

The Night’s Watch has reformed, though with the Wall broken at Eastwatch and the Wildling numbers dwindling to a mere few, it seems to be more a warning for the rise of the dead, perhaps as a buffer between the Kingdom of the North and the Free Folk. With connections made and friendships forged between the men of the Wall and the men beyond it, perhaps a time of peace will reign here as well.

 

The mission of the Watch now is to rebuild, refortify, and maintain those good relationships with the Free Folk, against the threat of the Cold, which could come again. I mean to help the men and women of the Watch, as well as those former Wildlings settled in the Gift and those who have returned to the far North.

 

Ration the Night’s Watch stores – Coffee 3x per week or less. With Eastwatch barely manned, luxuries from Essos and Dorne  will be rare at the Wall.

 

Patrol the wall – Tai Chi practice or other movement 5 days/week. A man can go mad looking out over the expanse of unknown beyond the Wall, or freeze as he takes his watch. I will move mindfully as I take my watches atop the wall.

 

Range Beyond the Wall - Walk/hike/jog with Malcolm once in a carrier, once in the stroller this challenge. The Watch is blind without its Rangers.

 

Scale the wall with Tormund - Weights 1x/week. He’s going to keep his hand in, whether or not he’s an honored guest who can visit at Castle Black. I should know what we’re up against.

 

Greenseeing - Meditate before bed. The weirwoods in the grove north of the Wall were

cut down by Stannis Baratheon and burned

, but the eyes of the trees are everywhere, in the ravens that quark in the Rookery and those that fly overhead. Only a clear mind can see the influence of the trees.

 

Three-Finger Hobb - Meal prep 1x/week. It’s long work, feeding the hungry men of the Night’s Watch.

 

Forage in the Haunted forest - Leafy greens daily. In spring and summer, eve at the Wall, plants can manage to survive the cold, especially greens like kale and chard.

 

Three-finger Hobb challenge! 1 time this challenge, do a big meal prep (Steph and Adam?) I ordered the containers.

 

Craster’s keep - Plant zucchini and squash sometime this challenge. With Craster gone, what’s left of his keep remains a good outpost for the watch. Help the Free Folk take it over and plant their gardens to make it through winter, and perhaps host a ranger at their fireside.

Week Two Review

 

Week Two:  I did a bunch of planting and yard work, and went to my last Tai chi class for a little while. Did greens 5 days out of seven, achieved my "five days of activity" goal, and crushed my strength training goal by spending a good two hours outside on Saturday, building and carrying and hacking and sawing. Coffee kept to 3/week so far. Also managed my Craster goals, planting two varieties of summer squash, a winter squash, and cucumbers. Meditation went ok, 5/7. My only big miss in week two was I didn't do any meal prep. 

 

Gonna step up for week three!

Currently working on a BuJo spread for this challenge, and enjoying the rainy weather, which is taking care of my garden and giving us a bit of respite before the hot weather.

Planted more herbs and three currant bushes. Super tired, but going to shower and stretch out before bed.

Did a ton of schlepping and running and lifting and chasing today, counting it as movement. Greens happened, but I can do better. Must meditate before bed.

Week One, Day Two.

Did so much in the garden and kitchen today! Also siphoned my lilac wine into a new fermenting bucket to clarify. Will rack it once more for extra clarity before backsweetening and bottling.

 

Put the little boy to bed, did dishes, packed his bag for going to his grandparents' tomorrow, tidied the kitchen. 

 

Now to eat a salad, do tai chi, and meditate before bed. Sounds exhausting, but itll feel so good later.

 

Anyone have suggestions for chakra meditations?

Week One, Days 3 and 4

 

Wednesday - I really felt gross and nauseous, so I failed my greens/Foraging goal, because I barely ate anything.Also didn't meditate with the Weirwoods, because I fell into bed instead.

 

Thursday - Used my third coffee this week on Thursday, seems I'm more reliant than I'd thought. Had a nice big green salad for lunch with the last of my sesame seed dressing. Ran around with weeStockings a ton, and realized I have forgotten a lot of my Tai Chi form, so I reprinted it out and pasted into my Bullet Journal. Did do a nice meditation on sleep before going to bed, restarting the 7 Days of Sleep on my app.

 

Friday/today: resisted the coffee and refreshed with tea and a walk in the sunshine to visit the chickens and the foal. Need to do good work during the day, because it's my Grandfather's Yahrzeit, so I'm going to Friday night services tonight. 

 

Tomorrow is the Champions League final! Go Spurs! Go Wanyama!

Eek! Is it really week three already? I have so much to check in about - good thing I have my Bullet Journal spread to keep me honest.

 

Week Two:  I did a bunch of planting and yard work, and went to my last Tai chi class for a little while. Week three so far:

Used one of this week's coffees because I came in an hour early for the all employees meeting. Ate relatively well for lunch, and keeping very hydrated. Goals for tonight include Greens, Meditation, workout/Tai Chi practice, and checking the child carrier and jogging stroller to see if they're ready for taking weeStockings out for a ranging.
