Closing is 6/28 so a week after this challenge cycle ends. We’ve packed up 5 boxes so far, mostly books.

I have a 5K on 6/1 and a tough mudder on 6/29

My dad is still in hospital and we’re trying to figure out which insurance he qualifies for so that he can move to a rehab facility. if none, then how to make him qualified.

Sleep is going to be important so I’m going to try and instill a midnight curfew for the weekends. except for Iceland of course which is going to be sunny basically ALL THE TIME. oh yeah I’m going to Iceland during this challenge!

Challenge goals:

  • one full body workout per week: weights at the gym or tough mudder circuit
  • one 30 min running sesh per week
  • bring weekly sleep average to 7h40m. TV off by 8pm for Mon-Thurs. Fri -Sun in bed by midnight.
  • food – 3 weekend vegetables
  • track yoga – 30mins/week; include bridges and clamshells once/week.
  • Obtain dad’s health insurance
    • Talk with ABI folks
    • Talk with commonhealth folks
    • Get him signed up for one or the other
    • get him moved to a rehab facility
    • hire a financial advisor, schedule first meeting
  • survive closing
    • obtain home insurance
    • pack up 10 more boxes, 2 per week

a lot of the same stuff with a sprinkling of new. that's how i roll!

now the hospital is really pushing to move him today but the options aren't great. trying to not back down as it's so hard to move someone out of a rehab facility once they're there. here are some other updates!

Week 0 – Monday

work was fiiiine. calls with hospital case workers and meeting with their financial office. visited dad. came home and cooked a hungryroot. washed dishes. and went to bed!

Week 0 – Tuesday

slept in a bit. got the laundry to fold later. tried on some jeans I had ordered. they fit but not well enough, especially around the knees.

folded the laundry after work and did some bridges/clamshells

Fitness: 0/1 runs, 0/1 workout, 1/1 bridges & clamshells, 7/30 yoga

Sleep: 0/3 midnight cutoff, current avg 7h32m

Week 0 – Wednesday

based on low sleep amounts I decided to sleep in and do a short tough mudder workout at home.

18 – 15 – 12 – 8 – 6

Jump squats

Sit ups

visited my dad after work, he’s in a much better place mentally. cooked dinner after getting home which put me beyond my bedtime again.

Fitness: 0/1 runs, 1/1 workout, 1/1 bridges & clamshells, 7/30 yoga

Sleep: 0/3 midnight cutoff, current avg 7h36m

Week 0 – Thursday

spouse showed up in the middle of the night and I completely slept right through that. yoga in the morning. and then a super hectic day at work. totally forgot about my scheduled massage in the evening but I still made it! felt great and wow what perfect timing eh?

spouse had dinner ready to go when I got home which was a blessing. we watched some dr who and caught each other up on our weeks.

Fitness: 0/1 runs, 1/1 workout, 1/1 bridges & clamshells, 22/30 yoga

Gah, what is it with the knees? I just had the same issue! Do they just expect us to walk like Kramer and never bend our knees?

2.05 miles in 26 minutes.

absolute shit day at work and dealing with dad things. he got moved out of the hospital and to a rehab home which is good and i like the place so far but dear gods this was a terrible no good day.

visited my dad while spouse grocery shopped and packed us up for the weekend. and also packed up 2 more boxes of stuff for the move! we went out to lunch and got to see our baby niece and then headed down to our friend’s parent’s house by the beach. We went out for some fried seafood and then hit up a dirty bar with a big loud live band. Such good people watching. a woman punched another woman, people hooking up on the dance floor but one of them went home with a different random person, I was really invested in their stories and ended up staying out until 2am…

veggies: broccoli, spinach salad

Yes!

And glad things seem to be good for your dad at the rehab home. Does this mean the workload is going to ease up there with managing all of the logistics and insurance and things?

I'm glad that your dad got moved somewhere good!

What kind of bar is it where people hit each other??? This has never happened any time I've gone out.

unfortunately i think we have to work towards a different MassHealth insurance  but the billing woman at the rehab home has said she's going to walk me through everything so that's nice!

this has maybe only happened twice in my life! i never really got to find out why this woman (A) punched this other woman (B). My friends and I notice 'A' stomping heavily and quickly into the bathroom. We laughed and said she's definitely going to boot in there. I went out for a cigarette and A fell through the front door from the inside of the bar and onto the outside entrance way. A gets up, goes back inside, comes back outside followed by a couple police officers. B and her whole gaggle of bridesmaids (yes, B was on her bachelorette!) come running outside talking about how A just punched her for no reason in the bathroom. I wish I'd had popcorn...

Week 1 – Monday

spent most of the day sitting on my friend’s porch just relaxing and having a couple drinks. we got home, unpacked, and prepared some quick bfasts and lunches for Tuesday’s work day. we made a kale salad and ordered pizza for dinner. it was quite pleasant. was asleep before 9pm and slept for 9 hrs!

Week 1 – Tuesday

hectic work day since I probably should have done some work over the weekend. oops. visited my dad and met with a couple of the admin folks there.

got to sleep a bit late after dinner was all said and done. we made an old recipe we used to enjoy, chicken thighs baked in maple Dijon sauce and that same kale salad from Monday night (kale, Italian dressing, feta, craisins, sunflower seeds). the thighs really need to broiled after though to crisp up the fatty pieces. blech. it probably didn’t help that we used a smaller baking dish and had to squish the thighs all in there.

Week 1 – Wednesday

slept in again and only got a quick 4 min yoga flow in. work was super productive and even got a chance to make sure all my dad’s bills were paid for this month.

I got a load of laundry in and did my yoga while that washed. swapped it to the dryer and started cooking dinner – a curried broccoli soup with sausage! stayed up a bit later than I wanted to talking on the phone about home insurance. we kind of have a plan in place and hopefully will choose one today or tomorrow.

Did not know this happened in real life. I would also have stayed up too late to watch this. You know, for.. science.. reasons.. Anthropology?

I'm so stressed out bc I know nothing about buying home insurance. Good for you!

neither do we!! insurance brokers have been helpful but very slow as they have to go back to the underwriters to ask the questions we ask. i've read some stuff that says to go over your policy with an attorney... we're probably not going to do that. just remember you can switch without penalty to another carrier after a year. or toggle with your policy options within a carrier whenever.

ICELAND!!! Really want to go there sometime!

me too! i'm doing it!! haha surprisingly it's very cheap to get there from the northeast of the US. cheaper than flying to places within our own country actually.

Week 1 – Thursday

finally got back to the gym for some weights.

DLs

95x8

135x5x4

EZ bar curls

40x8

50x5x4

squats

95x5

105x5

110x5x2

115x5

underhand cable pulldowns

105x5x5

visited dad but didn’t meet with the billing dept about his insurance. broiled those leftover thighs when I got home, definitely made them too dry but more edible for me. ate that with some brown rice and broccoli that I cooked in the instant pot. folded some laundry and got to bed a bit late again. spouse didn’t get home until when we usually turn off the TV…
