1. Lift your lifts 3-4x per week.

  • Not that I won't, but it's nice to check off the box when I do.

2. Shenanigans take two 1x per week.

  • Actually find something fun/unconventional/goofy movement-wise to do every week. (Maybe @KB Girl and I can collab? :D)

3. Write 2x per week.

  • It is outside drinking season again and my Guide to Daydrinking project is calling to me.
  • Random creative writing or poetry prompts also count!

It's zero week, so I'm definitely doing things. \o/

Day 0.1

I had a very productive gymnastics practice with front tumbling on floor, front walkover front tuck dismounts on balance beam, back handsprings on the high beam with lots of mats (but they felt really good), and toe shoots to high bar where I actually had 2 attempts that got my feet behind me by the time I caught the bar (!). I ended with stalder negatives (I can't not graze my feet on the floor) press handstands off of a tiny mat but my hip flexors were too shot to actually do them on the floor.

Day 0.2

I mis-loaded my deadlifts and hit an accidental PR of 4 x 295# for my sumo deadlifts. I was like "hmmmm, that was harder than it should have been, maybe I'm still just under-rested." Nope, plate math fail. :P I still managed the next 2 sets of 4 at 285# and then a crisp double.

Front squats: 5 x 4 x 180#

Bent over db row: 5 x 10 x 45#s

Single leg glute bridges: 5 x 20

Scap push-ups: 5 sets

Plan of the rest of the week includes lifting on Wednesday and maybe Sunday with gymnastics Thursday and Saturday. I'm going to a music festival on Friday (but just Friday, and Janelle Monae was the main reason I bought a ticket and she pulled out so I am VERY DEVASTATED and not all that excited about it anymore). Saturday, I have some dinner plans. Sunday, I think I have a brunch. Monday we might go to the beach if the weather is nice as it's a holiday here in the US. Plenty of time to do some writing. :)

I love Tank and the Bangas and they're playing at the same time as Christine and the Queeeeens, so sad. I will probaby see Chvrches, though.

Day 0.3

Work was pretty chill. I considered walking home or doing some errands, but my workout was going to be short anyway, so I went and got my pump on.

Paused bench: 5 x 6 x 115#

Close grip bench: 5 x 4 x 115#

Standing DB overhead press: 5 x 10 x 30#s

Kettlebell swings: 5 x 20 x 45# <-- lmao, these gassed me

I picked up dinner from my favorite Indian food spot and was considering having a chill night in, but a bartender friend of mine texted to see if we could hang out after he got off work and I was like "ooookay sure." So -- I continued my current lifestyle of taking a nap before staying up late. Did I mention I also did this on Tuesday to hang out with my bestie after she closed? And Monday, I took a short nap before practice and we were out late-ish again despite getting home at 3:30 am that morning... Oops. :D

Day 0.4

I took a chill night in on Thursday. I was feeling pretty run down (SHOCKING, I know) from my sleep schedule and my workout schedule, so I did a bit of shopping after work and then just headed home. I read on the couch for a couple of hours, showered, tidied my room a bit, and went to bed around 11 pm. I was planning on going to practice, but realized that would probably not be the best choice for me.

BORRRRING. So boring. (But very restful!)

Lifting: 2/3

Shenanigans: 0/1

Writing: 0/2

Music festival this afternoon/tonight! Practice tomorrow! LONG WEEKEND HOLIDAY GOODNESS ON THE HORIZON.

Have you guys seen any dumb shenanigans I can do yet? Maybe I'll play with show-off flexy pose holds after practice tomorrow... the weather is going to be very nice. :D

Day 0.5

The music festival was pretty fun! I walked 11 miles (?!??!) and most of it was bopping around between stages. It wasn't super crowded, I thought, and we got to see a lot. I wound up catching some of or most of Mura Masa, Christine and the Queens, Tank and the Bangas, Chvrches, Gang of Youths, a token 21 Pilots song for my superfan friends, and Yaeji. Then I left and ate both a hot dog and a hamburger because I couldn't decide which.

Day 0.6

Practice went well. I stretched for probably too long, but once I got going it was great. I landed 5/5 front handspring + front pike + front tucks to my feet, including 2 good ones. Then I went to uneven bars and did 10 toe shoots to high bar, including 2 that had a bit of swing out of them. Then I worked on front walkover + front tuck dismounts, which mostly went ok. Plus some forearm scorpion balances for "fun" and press handstands off of a 1" mat.

After that, I did some errands and walked all the way across town to go to a birthday party, which was fun and lovely on a BEAUTIFUL spring day.

Day 0.7

I woke up and walked to the gym to lift. I accidentally did my squats lighter than I was supposed to, but they felt kind of hard for some reason, so maybe that is okay in the end.

5 x 2 x 255#

RDLs: 4 x 6 x 185#

Pull-ups: 3, 3, 3, 2, 2

Curls: 5 x 10 x 15# dbs

Toes-to-bar medley: 5 sets

From the gym, I walked 40 minutes or so to a nearby lake to cool off. I drank some beers and my friend met up with me for a swim and chat. We left and got dinner and I realized I was starrrrving and slightly drunk and slightly sunburned, so I got home at 9:30 or so and promptly fell asleep.

Day 1.1

Monday was a US holiday, so I woke up early and went to surprise a friend at the zoo! She's giraffe like herself and also loves giraffes, so we dressed in giraffe shirts (though I wore a onesie) instead and surprised her by getting tickets to feed the giraffes. :)

Afterwards, we got lunch and then drove back up to Boston, where I went straight to a friend's cookout and stayed late enough to start the Bruins game.

I pretty much was only home to sleep this weekend. :X

I knew I was missing a thread!

DA deadlift PR mygowd!!Awesome

and my, you are so clooose to touching your head in scorpion!  Love how you see it as core conditioning when I totally classify it as deeeeep back stretching (and I'm no where near my head   ). You might actually get scorpion without even spending much time on it.

Oh, it is definitely that! I was mostly being tongue in cheek calling it conditioning, though I'd say the transitions in/out do have some serious core strength components -- and are probably why mine were so jerky, hehe.

Day 1.2

My friend undergoing chemo had a slight fever and a sore throat yesterday morning, so they deferred her treatment until Friday, which meant I wound up going into the office for a full day. Work was a bit slow, but I got a good amount done. The weather was gross and rainy, but the gym was pretty nice.

Bench: 5 x 2 x 135#

2-second paused bench: 3 x 8 x 105#

Kneeling db press: 4 x 10 x 25#

Hip thrust: 4 x 10 x 185#

Push-ups: 3 x 10

Lat raises: 4 x 10 x 15#

I try to superset my accessories, but this made me feel like DYING. Actively DYING. Hip thrusts are hard, yo. Something about these higher rep accessory exercises get my heart rate explodin'. I went and bought groceries after this workout and then ate some questionable leftovers because I didn't want to throw them out. I seem to have survived the night at least. My co-DM hasn't been following the D&D adventures the last month or two, so we met up for a beer and brainstorming session where I could catch him up on what's happened lately and we made some decisions about the bigger arc/mythology we're establishing. It was super productive and I'm excited about where the game is headed.

Went to sleep a bit late but slept VERY soundly. :)

Lifting: 1/3

Shenanigans: 0/1

Writing: 1/2

W - lift + posting up somewhere to watch game 2 of the stanley cup finals

Th - gymnastics

F - see my friend at chemo + lift + a local wrestling show

S - gymnastics + a bbq at my lifting gym

S - maybe lift, maybe rest, maybe jog?

Day 1.3

Me and deadlifts have been getting along pretty well lately, so I was actually a bit excited for deadlift day.

Deadlifts: 6 x 2 x 295# <-- these were all good, except my set up was a bit off on most sets and the 2nd rep was easier than the first. They were not touch-and-go either, I just must have not quite been getting in the right position.

Front squats: 4 x 7 x 165#

Hamstring sliders of doom: 4 sets of 10 per side

Bent over DB row: 4 x 10 x 45#

Dashed home to eat a snack and change into my jersey before heading back out the door to my nearby townie bar to watch the Bruins game. There were like 3 St. Louis fans in there though?!?!? GO AWAY. The game went into overtime and then my friend who came to watch with me wound up talking late so I got into bed at like 1:30 AM instead of something more reasonable. Oh well.

So ehm, for something fun and unconventional.. do you have kettlebells available at your gym? :D

(I know you do, but what weights?)

I'll give you a juggling challenge maybe. Or.. something hard.
