The PLN for taking on the Hiver

Chesire

Recommended Posts

I feel some creeping ugliness trying to sneak up on me.  So this time there will be some focus on "can, want, enjoy, content."  This beast can track all it wants, but success will be not letting it get a foothold.  "Lovely sunshine, good huntin', nice pretty flowers, and wee burdies goin' cheep!" should help keep it at bay.

My optimistic charge into battle will include:

battle- following the calisthenics program as laid out, with necessary adaptations for healing still in play.  Goal:  Stronger/more able

heart- off strength day playing/walking/running/whatever it takes to be outside.  Goal:  Placidity

stamina- mini-vacation moments.  Find a moment each day in which to take pleasure, in whatever ways suits the day.  Goal:  Focus on positive

body- slightly reduce calorie intake if I can find a way that keeps me satisfied.  Might be a modified IF (14:10) with focus on veggies.   Goal:  generalized body-wide wellness feeling

resistance- feelings of success regularly. Must be mini-goals so I feel I've accomplished something.  This will put up the necessary mental defenses.  Goal: happy satisfaction

Crivens! Gae awa' wi' ye, yer bogie!

So, slight shift in plans.  We adopted a dog.  Fitness will need to revolve around getting her settled for a bit.  Thankfully I do all my strength work at home.

Otherwise, good week.  I struggle with change beyond my control, and a new dog falls in that category, ie. she won't poop on my schedule, I must learn hers.  She's a sweety, so I think I'll just accept it :)

Meet Josie!  Best guess is a Dachshund mix.  She is doing wonders for my stamina/resistance levels as she isn't yet comfortable outside by herself.  So I have to sit with her and just be, which makes an easy "mini-vacation moment."  Or sniff pauses while walking are a good moment to focus on the sun and breathing.

check in time!

Battle is going very well.  Can definitely tell my back is getting stronger, which in turn helps my shoulder continue to heal and the stinkin' pec settles down and agrees movement is kinda ok. I can scratch my own back again without pain!  And the very, very merest of beginning for a skin the cat move (activate back and begin to pull into a curl) while listening to the shoulder, or course, didn't aggravate anything!  About damn time!  (Must look into dizziness with rolling and if there is a way to help that.  Just a thought for later)

heart is super easy to achieve now.  Very willing walking partner.  And now that Josie-dog is learning she can trust me we venture into bouts of running.  So intervals hadn't been in the original plan, but I can't say no to that happy face.

stamina builds every day.  It's pretty easy to find 5 minutes of brain emptying relaxation when Josie still requires company to be happy outside.  (We do hope she will settle into enjoying the yard alone eventually.)

Body.  Eh. Not actively reducing calories.  That's ok.  I recognize that was years and years of ingrained thought peeking through.  I'm happy with the IF for getting me through the day without being hangry.

Pretty certain I'll be crushing resistance this time around thanks again to Josie.  Since she had nearly no name recognition upon arrival and no training, every little ear-flick to her name is success.  She and I learned some commands already.  Yay!  And I'm still able to meet my language goals and work on my crochet

It'll go away once your inner ear acclimates. :)

So, does it count as success of a challenge if you are doing the things without doing them with the intent?  It's been about 10 days since I thought of the challenge, but I realized I'm still doing the things I set out to do, maybe not with as much effort as would have been.  But, oh well.  that's life

This became an LBD (low/little black dog) focused event instead of all about the Hiver and the creeping uglies.

All sense of order went out the door on this one; probably lost in the park when we *had* to chase all the chipmunks.  But, since my ultimate and over-riding theme really was to focus on mental satisfaction and learn my on depression resistance techniques, I'm good.

battle:  maintained plan, but not with any great focus.  I little stronger every day.  Grip strength especially as a curious LBD liked to wander underneath as I was hanging on the high bar and I couldn't drop safely.  Brat :)

heart:  um, yeah.  even rainy days are walking days now

stamina:  see above.   Additionally, on the rainy days made a point to not resist the idea of going out and remember puddles used to be fun, why not now?

body:  started with counting, ended up just eating with... intuition? awareness? experience?  Had a decent number of familiar meals to rely on and just ate when I was hungry.  Maintained 14:10 IF since it really seems to suit me.  Of course more walking/moving helps.  Don't care, pants still fit.  :D

resistance:  So many bits of satisfaction.  all the doggy things, but also maintained language learning and crochet work.  And house is still clean enough for company- dog toys everywhere.

All in all, extremely dog-centric.  All dog all the time.  dog dog dogdogdogdog......  woof.   Expecting new normal to set in soon so I don't feel I need to over think all the doggone time.  Already have planning for future challenges with more interesting themes for myself.  Learned this was kinda dull for me.  Need more real inspiration to keep the  story I tell myself more interesting.

Woof
