Press to HS summer battle part #1

Very nice! She seems to be a great teacher so I'm glad it was indeed the case. Thanks for the little review. :)

Love the summary, thank you!

It sounds really really good, especially the detailed non-stingy feedback.

I went a bit AWOL :hopelessness:

This is my log so far:

/* Challenge log */

Persian 0 1 1 0 0 1 1 | 4/7
Coffee 1 1 1 2 3 0 1 | 9/7
Bed 1 0 1 1 _ _ 0 | 3/5
Practice 1 1 _ 1 _ 1 1 | 5/5

Persian 0 0 1 1 0 1 1 | 4/7
Coffee 2 2 2 2 2 0 0 | 10/7
Bed 0 0 1 0 _ _ 1 | 2/5
Practice 1 1 _ _ 1 0 1 | 4/5

Coffee is bad! Persian is not that great either. Going to bed is a catastrophe. And I missed back-bends. The middle of the week was hard gain, not enough sleep too much coffee.  I postponed P2 (Thursday -> Friday). I still did not manage to do backbends on Saturday. I did do press to HS and HS endurance on Sunday with some extra pull.

All was fine on Sunday until I ate some cheese and got a massive allergic reaction. Rashes,  epic curse-level pustules all over my body, and wanting to scratch myself for about 4-5 hours. This is the first time ever it happens to me. I could still breath so we didn't go to emergency services. E. also had an allergic reaction but milder.

Today my face was still a bit rough and I wasn't feeling so hot, so no practice.

Hopefully I can get back on track. Not sure why but this is turning out to be a very tough challenge.

Work is still cool, busy and interesting. I still cycle back and forth. It's still super hot.

We got news from social security and the usual Kafkaian epic is starting to happen, they are asking for documents we already gave...  and for myself I need one more document because I wasn't born in France... so they feel the need to check that I'm really French... It does feel a bit alienating because it's exactly the same thing every single time I have to deal with paperwork like this.  And they could have asked me to join the document in the first place instead of having us to wait one month. And technically because I'm working, I should automatically get plugged in (as HR at work confirmed to me). But apparently not. Anyway...

Keep calm and press to HS :D

I'm super out of date with the forums. Not sure when I'll be able to catch up properly. Life is just toooo busy right now.

This morning press to HS and HS consistency (18/25). Feeling better about press, like I can recognize different levels of fails and I'm progressing on those :D

Today it was raining, I took my bike and …. had a huge slide on the old pavement in the city centre. I fell quite badly on my right (it could have been worse though, I saved my head, thanks to bailout practice?). I was ok but then blood started flowing out like the Niagara Falls (deep wound at elbow level), and I kinda felt fuzzy. People helped at a nearby kiosk and then a firefighter truck happened to pass by so I got really good care. I mostly had very low blood pressure. My heart rate was 42 which I thought was oddly funny, one of the firefighters asked me if I was doing a lot of sport :D It came back up to ~60 after a while. I really thought the heart rate would increase following an injury shock but not necessarily apparently.

Anyway, I did not go to work because I was really dizzy for a while and the wound needed more attention. I could go to a doc in the afternoon, and said no to a stitch (I'm a total wimp). And this is classified as a work incident - however since I'm not yet in the system I have to advance the money for everything! Tomorrow I'll get an x-ray of my elbow. I'll be back to work too. I'm fine really, the elbow flesh injury is deep, but everything else seems to be mostly big bruises, well I hope so!

Yikes, how scary!  I'm glad it wasn't any worse, but still it sounds like it as plenty bad enough already.  Hope all the paperwork (and now hospital bills) get cleared up quickly

I’m so glad you’re ok!!! That’s scary yo. Hope the elbow won’t affect your handstands too much. :)

Aghhh! What a wipeout. Glad you had good care right away and that things seem to mostly just be surface wounds (as annoying as those can be).

Oef! Did they find anything on the x-ray?

Glad you're mostly okay and that you had good care right away!

The heart rate bit is actually very interesting, very unexpected.

You guys okay money-wise?

Thanks guys!

Nothing on x-ray :) main issue is just raw flesh :positive: I was quite lucky. And I can do handstands! And hang from long arms as well. Actually full arm extension is the most comfortable for me. I cannot however do any kind of elbow humping, eg crows / planche progressions. Even if I could start above the wound, I might end up sliding on it... this is a big no no right now!

I had no practice during the week except for hips + legs, which I did on Wed (and well Press to HS just before my fall). I'm still not consistent at all when it comes to Persian / bed / coffee...

Today I did press to HS (plus Cirque Physio / pull). The only modification I had was to HS not far from the wall because I don't feel like bailing out in a bridge right now. And that went ok. I do feel some tenderness near the front shoulder, so  I didn't push it but I sweat it well enough. No endurance, instead I tried to do leg waves in HS and failed miserably  When I see it, I get it but once inverted, it's all wrong. I guess I'll just start doing side to side moves and not worry about when I should bend the knees. It was nice to be able to move again after feeling a little bit beaten.

Yes it's getting ok now that my first pay came in. Income taxes are also taken on my salary that I shouldn't pay but I will get reimbursed in a few months. I'm complaining but we are out of the risky zone now.

I bet! Leg waves also elude me, hehe.

You can complain even if it's all best case scenario! :D

Glad you're able to get some training in, some normalcy is always such a comfort.

Thanks, I'm becoming super crap at updating here :hopelessness: I have a lot of catch up to do with everybody's thread.

Quick "I'm alive" update

/* Challenge log */

Persian 0 1 1 0 0 1 1 | 4/7

Persian 1 1 1 0
Coffee 1 2 2 2
Bed 0 0 1 1 _ _
Practice 1 1 _ _ 1

On Tuesday, I started the final Press to HS module, not that there is a drastic change yet but I can float from stool on a more regular basis. On pbars, I'm just puuuuushing that's all. HS consistency was 18/25.

Wed-Thur => nil practice wise.

This morning I did a mix low frogs so some leaning with knees below my elbows which was fine. Some press to HS, just the skills bit, and HS consistency which was just 15/25, mostly because of kick fails. I did those in the middle of the room so I'm back to my usual training pretty much (except for bent arm stuff).

Coffee and Persian are still so so...

And I have to run under the shower and go to work :onthego:

Yay for more press progress!

It's HAARD :D I get pooped in no time too. eg 10-15mn of actual press to HS work is super hard.

Yay for living and progressing. Don't worry, we'll be here still when life slows down. :D

Time is going too fast right now, not sure how  / why. Moving and settling down (finding a flat etc) was busy, fair enough. Then looking for work went a bit slower. Now is a new kind of busy  I'm enjoying it though. Getting to know my colleagues, our neighbours (they are really cool), the city. I'll try to take pics some times, the city centre is really cute.

This week I bought a little cake for the guy who helped me out when I had my bike accident (he owns the news kiosk or at least works there). He was having coffee with 2 guys, one who also remembered me and immediately asked about the elbow. People are really friendly. I'm just sure the city has its bad sides too, we are still in discovery mode. But so far it feels like a really good move :)

Today I did backbends. I'm a bit bored by this work out, it does have a lot of Cirque Physio and sometimes, it is tough to get on with it... I couldn't do elbow stands, obviously, but I did pretty much everything else. Did bridges against the wall and managed to get full boobs onto the wall  And then I work on moving from a posterior to an anterior pelvic tilt and back in HS.  it's very subtle and hard to for reps actually.

I'm also still doing my small pull routine.

I only had one coffee with actual caffeine. And I'll read some Persian now.

Sunday: Press to HS, some pull and low key HS endurance (31s). Press to HS completely pooped me, I could barely kick into HS for endurance.

Persian done.

Only decaf.

This morning: legs & hips

Injury is healing. I don't think I will be able to hump my elbows again this week though, I'll probably hit press to HS 3x, which is not a bad thing either.

The bed time is challenging, but seems to be going better?

I'd love some pictures btw :)

Yep bed time is not too bad, last week I was in bed by 10.15-30pm, so it's not 10pm but it's not too bad really. But I do need to get in bed early enough to catch the first sleep bus, otherwise I'm up till midnight+.

Tuesday was press and HS consistency (and some pull). Today was rest.

Here is a video log from Tuesday, it has been a while! Sample of:

  • negative trying to pause at the bottom or at least go as slowly as possible
  • press pushes from pbars and trying to float... those are ridiculously hard
  • press from stool, I can manage 1-2 at the beginning usually
  • then I will get stuck with mostly some float time but no press
  • then pressing from stool + yoga blocks, still hard and not pretty but pressing hard, very similar to the handstand puppy pattern that one :D
  • and finally one set of HS consistency - by then my main issue is simply kick power as you can see, but if I manage the kick, I will usually stick my HS

Strength is getting there. And technique too, sometimes I get the press and it feels almost effortless, like everything is just in the right place. But most of the time, I'm stuck having to force brute it, and it's just not very efficient... I feel it in my legs mostly. My legs need to be light and active somehow. Otherwise I have a slight sink during the floating bit, and that makes everything so much harder. So the legs, and daring to lean a bit more than I do... but it has to be an upward lean, not a forward lean (face plant). Very technical, still not quite there.

Otherwise E. is a bit unwell because of the heat, he may have had an epileptic attack when I was at work yesterday :(  He does not remember but when I came in, his speech was a bit slurred and he had difficulty moving around. His next appointment with the neurologist is in August. We will see by then how it goes... not sure what we can do till then.

THE LEAAAN! It's the key. Though I am very impressed with how much you're doing without much of a lean. Nice abs and compression. :D

It's probably better that he loses consciousness to be honest. A full-on attack would be horribly painful if was conscious, he gets serious DOMs from them  It seems this time it was a partial attack, he remembers falling in the kitchen but that's it. He is better now after a few days though.

Well I did but I was disappointed, not even one position involving an elbow stand! :D

Yep, I'm not sure what I'm not quite getting that lean. Maybe it's a specific strength somewhere that I'm yet to develop. Or some technique. Since Kirsty is quite strong on avoiding the lean if possible, I kinda never really worked it but maybe I'm one those cases who would benefit from training it!

Yesterday, rest. Colleagues wanted to go bouldering at lunch time, initially, quite a few people were interested. Then we were 2, and then just me lolz. So I didn't go because in my mind, it's supposed to be quite social, from what I gathered from Mad Hatter's threads... so mhm. Did not happen! Another time I hope. Apparently the CTO is an advanced climber (told you management is cool  ). I'm getting better at table football though. And still biking every day!

Coffee / Persian / bed: not great, not bad either. Coffee doesn't seem to affect my HS, which is the main reason for limit setting (that and falling asleep early enough).

Today I did another round of press to HS, the usual with a bit more of a struggle bus with the stool but hey. Then HS endurance, I had a couple of 40s ones and a last one at about 60s or nearly there.

Shape is improving slowly. I gained some stillness I think. The end was tough, I really felt it in my arms.

Aww shame about the bouldering but I hope you get to go soon! Many people do go on their own and often you end up chatting with random people anyway. But for me personally a lot of the fun is in the social aspect. :)

That’s such a nice and steady handstand!
