Not that I won't, but it's nice to check off the box when I do. 2. Shenanigans take three 1x per week. Continue finding something fun/unconventional/goofy movement-wise to do every week. 3. Write 2x per week. It is outside drinking season again and my Guide to Daydrinking project is calling to me. Random creative writing or poetry prompts also count! raptron Posted June 25, 2019 Author Report Share Posted June 25, 2019 Day 0.1 I went to gymnastics practice last night and just felt OFF the whole time. I started on uneven bars and actually kind of figured out how to do the underswing into the uprise I was talking about last week. It MAY be crucial for my bars routine next season unless I can get good enough at toe shoots to high bar that I can just do the skill directly out of them instead of needing to kip first (stretch dreams!). For context, this transition between the two bars is the skill I've been working on. I would want to swing hard out of it and then backwards to come up with my hips on the bar (uprise) for the COOLEST possible iteration of this routine, haha. We got lots of time before the season starts, so I'll just keep chipping away. I still felt off after bars, so I did some back tumbling (just layouts really). I also worked on my standing side aerial cartwheels because I have a tendency to chicken out and do a little hop/hurdle into it instead of just doing it from a stand, which is not ideal for trying to move the skill to say... the balance beam. I finished up with a few front handsprings on the low beam, but was wiped out. Instead of the usual team taco night, we went to an industry night thing that was tiki drinks served in fruit (pineapples, watermelon, grapefruit) and free bao. We stayed way later than I want to and I was super beat. Is that even possible? Seems like you would need a massive amount of rotation (and height!) out of the toe shoot to generate the needed momentum. My prescribed work out was 9 heavy squat singles and I warmed up to get 275# on the bar, but then it was just me and one other guy... and there was no way I was going to do these reps without two side spots, given how the warm-ups felt. My hips were off and just everything about the squats felt not great. My warm-up single at 260# was not nearly as snappy as it should have been. I optimistically left the bar loaded, hoping someone else would come so I could get sides, and started to bench instead. By the time someone else showed up, it had been about 30 minutes and I was not warmed up for squats anymore. Squat warm-ups through 260# (slightly paused) Bench: 9 x 1 x 140# <-- these were all good Kneeling db press: 3 x 8 x 40# Push-ups: 4 x 12 Curls: 4 x 10 x 15# I'll squat Wednesday instead. I picked up great Indian take out for dinner, went home, ate, showered, and was going to like... do stuff, but fell asleep at 9 PM instead. Lifting: 1/3 Shenanigans: 0/1 Writing: 0/2 I'm actually going to be bopping out to California tomorrow morning to go out to a lake house with a bunch of friends through Sunday and then flying back on a red eye Monday night, so I'll be MIA until next week. I may come by to update on tonight's lifting first, but might not! raptron Posted July 3, 2019 Author Report Share Posted July 3, 2019 I'm back from vacation! Days 0.3 - 1.2 I lifted again on Wednesday. Flew out on Thursday. Lake kayaking and paddleboarding on Friday. Hiking on Saturday. Mostly driving around and some LA fun on Sunday. Beach day on Monday. Got back Tuesday am, but I had a very sore throat and my red-eye was 3 hours delayed so I didn't really feel up to doing a whole lot. I worked from home, napped, got groceries, and skipped my planned workout. BUT, here we are! I will be lifting tonight, Friday, and Sunday. Gymnastics will happen on Saturday.
