Anim Goes Back to Basics (Again)

I've spent most of this year trying to get back into my healthy habits with mixed success.  And after some forced introspection last challenge, I think I've nailed down the reason:  I've never been this happy for this long, and I don't know how to deal with that.  Before I met my fiancee, I could always find something to be angry about, and let the rage fuel my quest for change.  Now, the anger is still there, but it's less consuming, because how bad can anything really be while she's here?

So instead of failing to return to old habits, it's time to go back to the beginning and build new ones with new motivations.  She deserves the best version of me I can be.

Goals to get there:

-Do something physical 5x a week:  workouts, sports, yard work, house projects, doesn't matter what, just needs to be something to get me up and moving.

-Handstand practice 2x a week & wrist exercises (~5min) once a day:  this is the max my wrists can stand at the moment, but if I stick with it I can strengthen them and increase my practice time.  This is one of my favorites, so getting back into it should motivate me to stick with my workouts again.

-Eat reasonably & check waist and weight weekly:  if I stay active, I should be able to resume my cut without calorie counting.  If that doesn't work, I'll start myfitnesspal again.

-Declutter:  a more long-term goal, but I have a lot of junk that needs to be sorted, and either organized for use or donated to free space.  I also need to finish my costume shelf and start on the other planned shelves.

-Costuming:  Dragoncon is 2months away, but I'm actually in really good shape costume-wise.  I've got 3 of my 4 costumes completely ready (1 reuse and 2 tracking down and buying the pieces).  The last is Nightcrawler, which I'd like to upgrade/replace, but still have a usable costume if I run out of time.  The fiancee needs me to finish her Buttercup dress (need to make time for a fitting) and help with Psylocke (not entirely sure where it's at, so need to figure out what I'm doing to help).

1) Yup, hard to change motivations when "the old way" worked for so long.

2) AW! You're an awesome person, and I hope you know that.

Following for the cosplaying and awesomeness.

Harley Quinn as a red Twi'lek? Either way it's awesome.

I have also found it's harder to be motivated to make healthy choices when in a good relationship.

I'm bad about taking pictures, but I've got an album of previous costumes, if you feel like looking.  Current costumes won't go up until September.

Yep, we did Star Wars Joker and Harley for our first convention together (Pensacon 2018).  Hers turned out much better than mine, and is still one of my favorites.

Dang, dude. I don't think I'd seen Alphonse completed. That is an impressive build.

Yeah, he's impressive, especially with the rest of the group to give scale.  7ft tall, and ~3.5ft at the shoulder.  I needed 2 handlers to help navigate and we had to remove the head and sidestep onto the elevator to get around.

I'm hoping to upgrade and redo him at some point; primarily the shoes/platforms so I don't destroy my feet again. :P

Booked our venue this morning.  We were pretty well sold on it from the website and reviews, but after the tour decided to go ahead and reserve it.  They've got a bunch of spaces to pick from, including a fully insulated/climate controlled barn for the reception, space for us to set up a kids area (I'm probably buying a bouncy castle :P), animals scattered around the farm, including a pair of kangaroo and a zebra, a horse-drawn carriage for the bridal party, and the guy giving us the tour was excited to start convincing his wife he needed a Darth Vader costume to tend bar for us.

Now I just have to make myself wait the 2+years...

That's a really long wait.

Double win. Sounds like it's going to be a fantastic 'do.

I wanted next year, but she's trying to pay off loans first so she can help cover wedding costs.  And Aug 2021 was the next Friday the 13th at a good time of year.  I complain about the wait, but I really appreciate that she doesn't let me pay for everything.  She actually gets mad at me for buying her share of groceries and such. :P

Last week was a wash on my goals, and this week isn't doing much better.  The only thing I've been consistent about is falling asleep on the couch after work, which is relaxing, but ruins all of my other plans for the night.  Think I only got 3 workouts last week, one with handstands, and only did my wrist exercises a couple times.  And my waist increased at my weigh-in yesterday, so I'm going to start calorie counting again after the 4th.

Finally worked on my self again last night, I'm much happier with it after 2hrs of sanding smoothed out the front.

IMG_20190703_003350383

Still needs a couple more rounds of sanding, probably with some more wood putty, before staining and sealing, but at least I'm making progress again.

Been meaning to post an update, but my work computer has been disagreeable and I have other stuff to work on at home. :P

Challenge started out rough, but I'm starting to get into a groove this week.  Just had my 4th workout this morning (6v6 ultimate frisbee is brutal) and I've only missed 1 wrist day so far.  Weekly weigh in was headed in the right direction (without calorie counting w00t!), though I'm still way behind on getting into convention shape.  The LotR PVP has been a big help in reminding me to actually do something each day.

Shelf continues to be a pain in the ass.  Fiancee helped me manhandle it into the house, but halfway down the hallway we realized there was no way to get it around the corner, let alone through the craftroom door.  So had to manhandle it back into the garage and reassess.  Ended up cutting it in half and biscuiting it back together in the craft room (each half was light enough to move by myself), but now I'm in the middle of wood puttying the new seams smooth before I can get on with the staining and sealing.

Costumes are coming along.  Buttercup is done minus some additional fitting/tailoring and Psylocke just needs boots and her arm/leg bands.  Still debating how much, if anything, I'm going to update for Nightcrawler this year, so I'll probably decide that once the new costumes are done.
