INTRO

'Olo, you lot! Welcome to my quiet little corner. I am Haniya (pronounced Hun-nee-yah) a Nerdy, Sporty, DND[currently watching Critical Role]loving, Comic book enthusiast with a penchant for arts, Video games, Books, Disney movies, music and Mystery Murder shows [Stranger Things, Sherlock, Killing Eve, The Umbrella Academy and Elementary anyone?]

also Neil Gaimann because good omens is a fantastic show and is worth fangirling about.

Today  I have entered as a ranger to challenge myself. Hopefully, my experiment will help me build my habits and my body.

I feel like my true self best fits in this sneaky, lean, strong and dangerously cool class because strength and stamina are the two things that I ideally want and we all wish to master.

Hence, here I am and here I go!

BACK STORY TIME:

WE all know how our health is the MOST important thing in the world--physical, emotional and mental as well--especially when you've been obese half your childhood. Its hard to get back on that health horse when like half of your house hold isnt primed for it at all. Regaining my good healthy self has been a massive struggle, no less a bumpy roller coaster ride of high and lows. Well, I've been at it for quite a while with the NERDS--actually listening and enjoying the company of the people--thus, naturally, I come running back to thine fine health, happiness institute of fittitude! [Gedit] Even though i hate typing, i do try to update as often as I can.

Well, anyways! I live in Pakistan (south east asia) where carbohydrate is as important and as common as air and I am not joking! OUR DIET AND CUISINE IS JUST FULL OF IT AND EVEN IF YOU TRIED, YOU JUST CANT SHAKE IT OFF AND IGNORE IT! BUT. I. WANT. TO. CHANGE. MYSELF. I DON'T WANT TO BE ADDICTED ANYMORE AND THAT'S MY MAIN MISSION HERE!

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY! I will go slow this time and not overwhelm myself as much as I am prone to so I'll just go over the basics of my mission. Cus. I. Can. And. I. Love. To. Sound. Very. Official.

OH, SHALL WE MOVE TOWARDS MY BASE OF OPERATIONS?! *drumroll*

OP 1: Take control of the wheel, agent!

As the new agent of SHIELD, it is your duty to physically take care of what you put in your body. Filling in the shoes of Natasha Romanoff is going to be a hard job, recruit, so I suggest you take those shoes seriously and work hard!

*There we go, guys. Big shoes to fill* So, clean eating and portion control is the key. Refined sugar and fried stuff is your ENEMY. IT'S YOUR HYDRA! You must defeat the bad side!

*telegram* Recruit! We are not that cruel, you know, so we are allowing you a two day cheat treat. Aren't we cool?! Of-course, we are, we are SHIELD!

OP 2: Find the lost Tomb of Rorustan

You want to be the next Lara Croft? You want to go on adventures and move mountains like her, yes? Change the course of time and history like her? Then, you got to train like her! Her strong and Charismatic body took years and years of hard work and perseverance! Can you keep up?

*CanI?*

Journey to the lost tombs, human and bring forth power!

My objective is to run and do body weight exercises (darebee and skipping rope) 3-4 times in a week with two days rest period.

Walk for 20-30 mins daily.

CAN YOU HEAR THE SPIRITS TALKING? YES! I DO! I CAN HEAR LARA CROFT! MASTER, I CAN HEAR HER WHISPERS FROM THE INSIDE, SPEAKING OUT TO ME (awksslipawaytoyonder)

OP 3: Bend it like Korra!

Before she was the avatar, Korra knew nothing of her powers and how to control them but with the help of her teachers and peers, she blossomed into the strongest being we know today!

Want to Bend it like Korra? *Heck Yeah* then you must dedicate some time to your education; to learn and grow like the avatar.

Daily one or two videos that'll inspire you or give you knowledge about the world and beyond.

Study spanish: Duolingo and Memrise streaks, audio lessons from Pimsleur and YouTube video lessons. Dont forget to make notes in your notebook.

Meditate to calm your souls. A clear and tension free mind is a happy mind!

TAI CHI PRACTICE! Watch David Dorian Ross videos and practice along. New videos everyday to build your 103 long form practice.

OP 4: "Be as flexible as Kamala Khan"

SUPERHERO BY DAY, REGULAR GAMER CHILD BY NIGHT! Balancing your hero and human life takes a lot of work but you have to do this in order for the world to make sense plus, fun time is fun time! So, here are my humanly duties towards a good future:-

Journal writing: habit tracking, Spanish progress and recording my days key features as bullet points to make my life easy

Updating nerd fitness with my journey in the form of ratings A-F [A being super awesome and F Epic Wamp] and supporting new people and their journies!

*POWER RANGERS, METAMORPHOSIS! Oh, wrong fandom*

Read more books by adhering to the 50 books a year challenge: Give 1-2 weeks maximum to my current read by reading everyday for 20-30 minutes

Focus on your hydration: Minimum 6glasses to up to 8 glasses. More water!

LASTLY

NEVER GIVE UP!

Speaking of giving up, we all need some kind of push on our behinds, right?

That's why I have certain ideals. Certain role models that I look for inspiration and motivation when I am feeling particular down in the ditch.

These forces of good are there when i need them the most, to guide me through my epic quest I call life.

Someone who I want to be:

Inspiration Dice

I have so many role models that I look up to! People who have proved to be gigantic and so bad arse--who don't need to be reminded of their worth! People who are amazing enough to inspire and motivate us all to follow our dreams and challenge our limits. They teach us that being kind, resolute, strong and brave--in the face of danger--is the most noblest of things you can do.

So, so talented, so powerful and so stupendous.

I want to be them and I am honoured to call them my idols:

Lara Croft, Black Widow, Korra, Ellie Goulding, Aveline De Grandpre, Aloy,  Merida, Captain Marvel, Avatar Aang, Dr 13 and Yasmin Khan, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Jim Kwik, Shuri, Okoye, Kamala Khan etc.

I am not promising here but i will try to keep you guys up to date with my daily shenanigans and what-nots.

Apart from that, I want to THANK you for YOUR precious time! And I might need you guys to help me with this challenge because my focus on them has been very rocky but I am ready to CHANGE MYSELF FOR THE BETTER! I SWEAR ON MY PRETTY LITTLE HANDS THAT I SHALL TRY MY HARDEST!

*CUE RICK ROLL SONG*

p.s: i love DND even though i am a complete beginner so talk to me about it or if you are looking dnd players then lets band together! I am all for an epic dnd session!

Day 1:

IT WAS A GOOD DAY! My body was aching from mondays boxing work out but thanks to my current read, "Atomic Habits" by James clear, I managed to find the energy to get onto my treadmill! Clocked in 30 mins of a good endurance run--was sweating pretty profusely so hoping it was good--according to my favourite app of all Zombies, Run! I love it a lot!

I am almost done with my book [I think] My reading app says I am 65% into it so hopefully, this week, I will be finishing it and putting it aside for Good omens! Although, i still have the last of thr raven cycle book to go through, ugh.

By the way, I want to start Lord of the rings soon. I've heard they are rather large books but worthy of following. I don'tknow much about the books honestly so I am a bit skeptical? Let's see where my brain leads me.

Spanish--done! Except duolingo because it gets so boring and tedious--ugh! Forgot to write vocab down in my notebook so a big whoops on my part there.

Tai-chi--done! Coming along really well, in my opinion! David Dorian Ross is a great teacher and his videos are so perfect and easy to follow. He explains every move in such intricate detail that it becomes hard to mess up. Of course, ones body isnt really optimisted to the fluidity of the moves hence one very much looks akin to a potato doing the boogie, but, hey, I am having fun!

Hydration, 7 glasses, check and journaling, YAS QUEEEEEEEEN.

And your girl got her captain marvel t shirts, yesterday! I ordered them 3-4 days ago and they have finally made their way home. They are comfy and amazing! Just making my Captain Marvel loving heart warm.

Also, got to make sure that I hit the books soon! I have exams on the 19th November so, I have got to form a schedule and get a shift on.

Monday was a win by me

Yikes, that is a lot on your plate! Good luck with all you have planned and wish to accomplish. And good luck with the studying for your exams.

Oh yes, if you mention something like new clothes and t-shirts, etc. we need to see pictures/photos, otherwise it ain't so :D (If you want to).

Day 2

Okay, this is how its going to go down, yall!

I am going to list my day as wins and losses which is going to help me record my day much better and is going to be easy for me to reproduce here, you know?

So!

Wins: -

  • Hydration: 6 glasses. Not bad at all if you ask me but needs work. Going to go for 7 at max the next day.
  • Spanish: Didnt do duolingo but listened to audio lessons from YouTube and pimsleur
  • Reading: I AM DONE WITH ATOMIC HABITS EARLY! However, 2 weeks was too much for 300 plus pages book. Gotta work on reading more [even if its just 5-10 mins]
  • Journaling: MADE a minimalistic habit tracker for the whole month of July which is going to make my life SO MUCH EASIER also recorded the highlights of my day
  • Taichi: Did one new move since the old moves needed practice but at least I practiced the 36 steps ive already learned so far.
  • Breathing: Did a few breathing exercises after breakfast! YASSSSSSS
  • Submitted my entry form for the November exam despite my irrational fear of ruining it! Ha!

I was craving unhealthy sh*t last night and was offered a sandwich made with white bread BUT I DIDNT EAT IT. ATE AN APPLE INSTEAD. HAAA. THAT'S RIGHT YOU FOUL UNHEALTHY FIEND! I BEAT YOU

Losses:-

  • Might 've missed my walk and workout sessions but to be fair, day before yesterday's boxing session left me ACHING AND WRITHING IN ABSOLUTE PAINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN egh also. Overwatch. Took. Time. Away. From. Me.
  • Missed duolingo, yes.
  • Did not go to uni as I intended to so plans good for Thursday
  • DID NOT MAKE MY EXAM SCHEDULE YET. Any advice?
  • Sadly, our Dragon masters dog might be sick and in need of surgery so she says that we might not play our game next Thursday which, truly, is depressing [plus the thought of not going to play with my crush is NOT VERY PLEASING] but hopefully her dogs scans come out okay and its nothing too serious.

by the way.  I MISSED this.

I am a HUGE fan of this book.  seriously I have read it over and over again!

my daughter got me the silmarilion which is something of a Bible to the world, that JRR tolkien made.  and to me, even when its not so much of a narrative I still Love the way that he thought of stuff.

so deep and intricate;  heroism but also aching tragedy and great personal sacrifice.

---

if I can give some advice to reading from this author it would be to be willing to skim over stuff that seems a bit boring or tedious.  there's some poetry in the Lord of the rings; that has taken me time to appreciate.  it can be hard to keep to have a get a world view of the Middle earth, too... for JRR tolkien was tedious and industrious in richly defining a long complex history, culture and especially language.

language ofc was Tolkien's specialty and he developed some of the races languages so well defined that they are practically stand-alone languages with separate spoken and written forms.

(I suppose sometimes when I have read the Lord of the Rings the 100th time; I will take the next step to learn Quenya)

so anyways.  best of luck when you decide to read it.  don't get stuck on anything to tedious and be prepared for a walk into a richly developed world that has intrigued many people over the years.

PS.  if you HAVE watched the movie; prepare yourself for an QUITE a lot of differences!  though I love the books; what they did when WRITING the script of the movie was SO awful that it can't bear to watch the either "the Two Towers" and "the Return of the King"

it just SO sad to see how they've ruined the characters.

Im not even sure that you SHOULD count today's missed workout as a 'LOSS'

I mean, if you not RECOVERED from Monday, would it be athletic to do a workout today!?  I don't think so.

instead, you made the right decision to rest from a particularly intense workout!

Day 3 and Day 4

Sorry for not updating! I've been busy trying to collect info on my exams! Ugh, so much stuff out there, my god.

ANYHOOOOOOT!

Wins:-

  • Tai chi practice? Check that on day 3
  • Breathing exercises were a check! Both days, did that! Yas
  • Spanish: duolingo and audio lessons on day 3 and Day 4, so it's all too good!
  • Journaling: Updated my habit tracker and recorder my day on both days.
  • Hydration: 7 glasses of water. Pretty good! Going to the bathroom so often should be considered an exercise, I swear.
  • Walk: WALKED CONSISTENTLY ON BOTH DAYS SINCE SOME PERSONAL MATTERS HAVE MADE ME GONE BAT SHIT CRAZY AND I NEEDED SOME FRESH AIR. Please send positive vibes, thoughts and prayers my way.
  • Exercise: My day 3 consisted of jump rope complimented with Jordan yeoh videos and Day 4 had running. I almost didn't run yesterday but i didnt procrastinate one bit and forced myself up! Luckily, playing zombies run and listening to critical role passed my time really quickly?
  • Danced a good bit yesterday! It was a fun mini workout.

Loses:

  • Just was overwhelmed by the moves so needed a breather from the new moves so nothing on day 4
  • No reading since I've yet to decide but during my running I kind gave a listen to the Good Omens audiobook?
  • Made an incredibly huge mistake while submitting my exam forms. Apparently, I submitted the wrong certification papers.

  • I practiced my Spanish!
  • Started a book after my run! Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchetts, "Good Omens".

Losses:-

  • Did not eat well. I dont know what happened yesterday though? All i know that not eating breakfast and stress combiningly contributed to my lack of control.
  • Did not journal
  • Should've spent more time on Taichi.
  • No walking

That's a big win right there. It's so hard to exercise when you're having a crap day, so kudos to you! Sorry about the bad eating, just chalk it up as a fluke and get back on the grind ;). I try and think of my meals as a weekly endeavor. If I eat 4-5x a day, that equates to 28 meals on the low end of the week. If I do well on 22 of those meals, I'm sitting at 78.5%. I would say if you look at this like a grade, then you passed. Don't beat yourself up too much, Hani. You're still kickin some major booty!

Sometimes a break between things, especially when you have so much on your plate, is a necessity. So I won't count that as a loss. Please be careful of burnout. Been there, done that, don't want another t-shirt.

Since I love reading, I think audiobook counts :D Personally I need something visual, but if your an auditory (learner) person, then audiobooks are the best!

Oh no! Can you resubmit the correct papers?

Well done on running, even though you were having a bad day. I totally agree with Wolf that you did great, even on the eating.

*OOOOOOOOOOOOHBOOKSPRECIOUSBOOKS* I actually love the concept behind Audio books but, a couple of things ruin it. One: idk why I keep losing focus? I'd be listening to a paragraph then all of a sudden, I'd lose track of time and when i refocus, I find myself, lord knows how, on the fourth page?.. I dont know when it happens? Two: English and audio quality. As a non native speaker, I find that speech without any sort of written transcript hampers my experience, since, the audio quality makes accents so much harder to catch, obscuring some words or phrases. Hence, I always need subtitles at hand. Any suggestions on how i can make my audiobook experience better?

Jumping in late, but LoTR is a great book.  Agreeing with TGP on the poetry. This time through I really slowed down and appreciated the poetry. However, if poetry and songs aren't your thing, feel free to skim over those ( I did in my first reading). I think the story moves at a pretty fast pace, so it kept my attention.

Yay for working out on the treadmill even when you didn't feel like it

Day 6, 7, 8:-

Wins:-

  • Tai chi: Looking good! I think my form still needs a bit of work but atleast my practice has not stopped despite all odds! [Reviewed all moves on Wednesday and Thursday. Learned a new one pm Tuesday]
  • Language: I am so proud of me for continuing my Spanish on duolingo and listening to YouTube lesson and, despite my better judgement, I have also started German [already have gone through the alphabets]
  • Breathing: Done and done also keeping my thoughts and mood in check
  • Studying: Still needs work but i am doing it! Gotta make notes doe.
  • Workout: combo of skipping rope Hiit workout, 3 rounds of combat hiit darebee and yoga on Wednesday.
  • Walking: I am proud of myself for not stopping despite my body screaming at me to not move yesterday and the day before.
  • Reading: Good omens is a really weird book to digest. The sentence structure and flow, sometimes, just loses me.
  • Green tea: Last tea bag used on tuesday and 2 cups on Thursday, so, YAY, got more of them
  • Hydration: 7 glasses on tuesday, 6 glasses on Wednesday, 10 on thursday.

Overall time tracking and journaling practice has really helped me a lot these past few days. Thank you, internet! You keeping me on my toes and a pretty productive parrot! [I am not a parrot. It just flowed with the sentence]

Losses:-

  • I deliberately didnt call the folks at Rozan--which is an organisation that focuses on Mental Health. I really need to do this to, not only, find out more about whether i have anxiety or not but to alsoget advice on how to cope with this whatever i have in my brain
  • Someone VAGUE blogged about me and I let them affect me. Literally, it stayed in my head and I let them control my mood for the whole day.
  • Been slacking on my workouts because of my mean thoughts for the past few days.
  • Social media IS AN EVIL ENTITY! I literally waste too much of my time and energy on it instead of studying, reading or sleeping.
  • Sleeping schedule is mucked up pretty bad.
  • Lack of proper food intake and timing

Sad side note: Our DM had to cancel our Thursday session because of the heatwave down in Europe and that news made so, very sad. Also, because of her busy schedule, we are gonna skip play next week but I am sincerely that doesn't happen and she finds time for a session next week. I am so itching to play the damn game! Talk about bad luck D:
