"Tempered by the fires of Hell, his iron will remain steadfast through the passage that preys upon the weak. For he alone was the Hell Walker, the Unchained Predator, who sought retribution in all quarters, dark and light, fire and ice, in the beginning and the end, and he hunted the slaves of Doom with barbarous cruelty; for he passed through the divide as none but demon had before." - UAC Report File 9REIZDUR

Hello fellow Warriors!!

Some of you already know me, but for those that don't: my name is SheriffWolfpool or Wolfpool or Wolfie, lol. I've been around Nerd Fitness since 2012 and challenging pretty consistent since 2015. I've been a Ranger during the last 4 years because my focus was on being a jack-of-all-trades. I did a little bit of everything. I've ran Spartan races, dabbled in parkour, done lots of calisthenics and even played some Quidditch and Gaelic Football. My main focus was to be as active as possible and trying my best to be the most badass version of myself. Now, my focus has shifted a little. My focus is now on gaining size and strength and I thought there was no better place to achieve that than the Warriors Guild. There's still a level of badassness I want to achieve, but it involves gameifying my life and harnessing the "rage" of a video game character called, the Doom Slayer.

Recently, I've become obsessed with the Doom Slayer. I played through and beat DOOM (2016), (the remake to the classic 1993 Doom), on the medium difficulty called "Hurt Me Plenty" and loved the game. Now, I'm streaming Saturday nights with a buddy of mine as we play through the next hardest difficulty called, "Ultra-Violence". I call it #SlayerStreamSaturday ;). Believe it or not, there are two more difficulties after that lol. One of them, the last one, being called Ultra-Nightmare is a permadeath play through. One death sends you back to the beginning...unless you beat the level you're on and save. No checkpoints. No respawns. Plus, the enemy A.I is just stupid hard. Anyways, DOOM Eternal, the sequel to the hit 2016 remake, comes out November 22nd of this year, a week after my birthday! I actually had the chance to go hands on with the demo this past weekend at QuakeCon and was just blown away by how awesome and gory it is! The game devs have redesigned the Praetor suit for the Doom Slayer in Eternal and this is the "bulk" of my inspiration...

As you can see, the dude is JACKED! #curlsforthegirls

Last challenge I started training harder in the gym than I have in over a year, hitting certain PR's I've yet to achieve in my short lifting career. I've always sucked at deadlifts but that's because my form sucked. I've since fixed that and have brought my 4RM up to 225#. It's the most I've ever deadlifted and that's without testing my 1RM, lol. I've been consistently kicking butt the last 2+ months, but really dialing in with nutrition and workout consistency the last 5 weeks. I want to continue that trend with an added dose of intensity as I start the journey of a brand new program from Athlean-X called: BeastX. It's a 12 week program focusing on hypertrophy, athleticism and strength gains, and I'm soooooo excited to start! I have a good baseline now and I'm ready to take my "Unchained Predator" mindset and completely unleash the beast within.

There are also some other crazy changes happening in my life. I'm getting a second job at Costco. I'm pretty excited about it because I love Costco and I actually used to work for them about a decade ago. Being the father of 5 beautiful kids and having an amazing wife that watches after them is just one reason for needing this second income. I want to get us into a bigger place, possible a house in the next year or less. I also want to get debt free and have a little more cushion with our finances. Working 2 jobs and still wanting to maintain a training schedule is going to be physically and mentally demanding, so, I need to be on my A-game. The last 2 challenges, I have been focusing on 3 qualities: Relentlessness, Focus and Calm Under Pressure. Combined together, I have been able to set goals, achieve them and kick ass in the process. This challenge is no different. In other words, "Don't fix what aint broken!"

Goal 1: A Predator's Mindset-Relentless

It's no surprise that juggling the many things I have going in my life is going to be tough as hell. But, with the right mindset, I can (and will) be victorious. The nice thing about the BeastX program is the workouts are no more than 60 min long. Training at the gym is therapeutic for me and something that needs to continue even in the midst of working two jobs. Fueling my body and my mind is going to be just as important for all the "in-between" stuff. To have a Predatory Mindset, I need to:

  • Keep up with weekly training on the new BeastX program. Get swole.
  • Fuel my body and meal prep/plan better. Post pic. People like food porn .
  • Have a good attitude about it all. Don't be a dick.

Possible Points: +4 STR, +1 DEX

Goal 2: A Predator's Restful Slumber-Focus

Sleep. Ohhhhh, how sleep is going to be the most important goal of this whole challenge. Not just sleeping at night, but napping during the day and taking advantage of the opportunities to get some shut-eye. There may be nights where I don't get home from Costco during the week till almost 11pm...and then I want to get up by 4:30 AM to be at the gym so I can make it to my other job in time? Yeah, it's gonna be nuts. I'm salary at my day job which gives me a little leeway on sleeping during lunch, which, needs to be a daily thing. I always eat at my desk, so, I will continue doing that, but take the time to nap during my actual lunch break.

Possible Points: +3 CON, +2 CHA

Goal 3: A Predator's Might Roar-Calm Under Pressure

Image result for doom slayer gif

I'm a member of the Toastmasters Club at my day job and I love it! Public Speaking has always been a big fear of mine since I was little but I am overcoming that fear and really enjoying giving these speeches. I am about to complete my level 1 pathway for my focus on Presentation Mastery with this weeks Toastmasters meeting when I evaluate one of the members on his speech. After that, I'll dive right into my 2nd level pathway and begin knocking out those speeches/goals as well. During this challenge, I want to "lean in" and make sure to fill a role for every meeting over the next 5 weeks. I also want to give at least one speech in that time frame. Being calm under pressure is crucial to the success of this goal.

Possible Points: +2 CHA, +3 WIS

And there you have it folks! Thanks for letting me hang here for the next challenge+!! I I look forward to kicking some ass and making the Warrior guild proud of all my gainzzzz :D

Plans for Zero Week:

  • Orientation for Costco is tomorrow. I'm taking tomorrow off from my day job because the only time they could schedule me is at 2pm. I have the extra PTO time and want to be refreshed for my first day on the job ;)
  • Mentally prepare to be working longer days. I should have my schedule for the next couple weeks and can plan meals and all that other jazz accordingly.
  • This week was a well planned deload week. I've been lifting heavy and kicking butt the last 5 weeks or so and want to be fresh going into next weeks "unleashing".

Welcome to the Warriors!

How many hours will you be working at your new job? It sounds like you have a big challenge ahead of you, but you have the right mindset to be able to knock it out of the park :)

Thank you, Marissa! It's looking like I'll be working about 25-30 hours at my second job. I don't really have a beat on things yet because I don't start till tomorrow, so I guess we'll see lol. One thing I know for certain is I'll be getting my steps in like a boss!

Thank you, Harriet! I can be very ambitious when motivated lol. 5.5 hours is NOT enough time for sleep, that's why my naps are gonna be so crucial. I can net another 90 min a day with my 1 hour lunch and 2x 15 min breaks. Aaaannnnd because my day job is chill, I can pull off having a 90 min lunch each day by combing it all in one fell swoop ;). The plan is definitely not full proof, but I'm gonna try my best to make it work.

I agree that sleep probably seems like the most important factor of this challenge for you. I hope you are able to maximize your napping time to make up for the short nights. Good luck on the challenge!

Oh ho ho! Hello Mister! And don't you have exciting things going on in your life! Your proposed schedule reminds me of a former Warrior from yesteryear you may remember, and lunch naps were key. (I used to call Flex Luthor a sleep lord - nap during lunch and then after work before late night training. Heyo, gotta get it in wherever it fits!) You got this. Never one to back down. And we got you if you need us :lemo:

All the food pron pics pls, maybe I'll add that to mine - I'm just getting settled in a new place and haven't figured out how to cook here yet. Recipe swap? RECIPE SWAP! :D Excellent to have you here. Love to the wolfpack <3

I hope I'm able to maximize napping as well. I got my schedule for the rest of this week and they don't have me going in till 6:30 on Thu/Fri and only working 6 hours on Saturday and 4.5 on Sunday. I don't know if that's because we had an 8 hour orientation yesterday or not, but, I'll be curious to see what the next weeks schedule looks like. If they routinely schedule me at 6:30 during the week, then I can adjust my training schedule and get in more sleep ;)

Haiiiiiiii Red

Thank you for the words of encouragement! This schedule won't be impossible to pull off..I just need to utilize my time to nap and "get it in" when I can, like you said :P. (I must use the fortitude of Flex Luthor and catch all the zzz's!) I know it'll be tough, but I'm not willing to sacrifice my consistent workout routine I've worked so hard at getting back into just because life wants to throw me a curve ball, ya know? This is what I say to that curveball-

I'm 100% willing to swap ALL DA RECIPES! We haven't made anything crazy this week yet, but we use our instantpot a lot. Do you have one of those? They are fan-freakin-tastic if you don't own one. And btw, congratz again on the new abode!

So yeah, yesterday was orientation at Costco. It was boring as hell. Paperwork, outdated videos and mandatory training vids. I decided to take the day off from my other job so I could get stuff in order for orientation and I'm glad that I did, cuz it allowed me to sleep in. I also got my haircut yesterday which felt AHHHMAZING. I've been growing it out for the last 5-6 months and decided a couple weeks back that I didn't want to continue that trend. I literally feel like a new man, haha! (Haircut pics coming soon!)

I'm really thankful this week is a deload week. I don't feel as bad about not being in the gym. I still want to go tomorrow morning and do some light deadlifting and bicep stuff but other than that, I'm gonna take it relatively easy the rest of the week. I have NO IDEA how intense this BeastX program will be and want to start out on the right foot by being as rested as possible.

HAHA! Thank you, Jarric! And thanks for the good luck, I'm gonna need it. If (and when) I pull this off, it'll be my most successful challenge to date. I mean, that is the WHOLE point of a challenge is it not? To challenge oneself ;)

I remembered you said you had put your new challenge up. So, naturally I went a looking for it in the Ranger guild. However, it was nowhere to be found!! Now you could have told me you defected to the warriors and I not remember #mombrain. But, I feel like that’s something I would have remembered seeing how crucial that is! Bummed we are not in the same guild anymore, but I understand. I am here to support you and love you no matter what! *Blows kiss from Ranger camp*

I swear I told you I was gonna go to the warriors guild for the next challenge, but maybe I didn't? I dunno babe, lots have been going on recently. We busy lol. And in the end, no matter what guilds we are in, we share the same bed so that's always a bonus ;)

Yup, more likely a visit to the warriors guild. It's hard to think of me with another guild crest other than Ranger.

I need to post food porn pics...I feel like I'm letting the audience down! Thank you for the compliment-I'm loving the new cut! And thank you for the well wishes. It's gonna take some sacrifice on my end to get these naps in, but I think I can make it work. With as hard as I plan on training + the longer days, sleep is more vital than it's ever been!

I did take a 80 min nap today. It wasn't the most restful nap, but it did help me feel better and more energized :). I like to listen to Ludovico Einaudi when I nap. There's just something SUPER relaxing about his music. I work 630-1030 this evening so I'm gonna go home and spend a little time with the Wolfpack before I go into work. This 4 hour shift should be nice and easy...(or let's hope so). I'm off work from my day job tomorrow to spend more time with the fam before they leave for a week starting next Tuesday, the 6th. This means I'll get to sleep in. Woot woot!!

Hope you had a good day off/long weekend dude.

Long weekend? Yes. Day off? Not anymore, lol. Costco has me working on the weekends, so, there's no more "true" days off for me right now. Having said that, it was still a good weekend! Thanks for the message, Jarric :)

I survived the long weekend! I worked 2-830 on Saturday and 3-745 on Sunday. It wasn't too bad; the time went by rather quick with how busy Costco gets on the weekends. I purchased the BeastX program or rather BeaXst program as it's more properly spelled and completed day 1 today. Woot woot!

8/5 Day 1 WOD:

2 x bench press 6RM (135#)

  • 10 x 95#
  • 8 x 115#
  • 2 x 6 x 135#

2 x DB triceps extension 6RM (25# DB's)

  • 2 x 6 x 25# DB's

4 x 12 back squat at 155#

4 x 12 hip thrust at 70#

2 x bench press 6RM (135#)

2 x DB triceps extension 6RM (25# DB's)

Abs: 4 min 30 sec total

  • figure 8's- 30 sec
  • cross hop planks- 30 sec
  • rest 30 sec
  • Russian V tuck twist- 30 sec
  • left side plank lifts- 30 sec
  • right side plank lifts- 30 sec
  • prayer crunch- 60 sec
  • tuck planks (opposite side)- 30 sec

All this was completed in just over an hour. Granted, I was solo today, I'm hoping to keep the time around 60 min for my workouts to give myself time to go home, shower and get ready for work. Those 4 sets of 12 on back squats was me least fav lol.

My wife and kids are heading out of town tomorrow till the following Monday, so, I have meals prepped (courtesy of my wife helping me out while I worked yesterday) with snacks and everything else in between. I'm off tonight and Wednesday from Costco and gonna make the most of my naps during this week of training at my day job. We already get a 90 min lunch, so, I'll just continue what I was doing last week with my naps ;).

Happy Monday, Everyone!!
