Press to HS summer battle part #2

@mu

Recommended Posts

I'm in a rush, quick goal setup:

  • Train 5x a week – as the title says my main focus is press to HS (on parallettes)
  • Daily Persian
  • Go to bed early enough on work days
  • Limit coffee consumption, from last challenge, it seems that 10 a week is about ok (ie does not impact sleep / HS practice), 7 would be ideal

Monday

Hips session

Daily Persian = yes

Coffee = 2

Went to bed just before 10pm, yo!

Tuesday

Press to HS => gained 1 or 2 centimetres today! And also destroyed my bike basket oops

Here is the video

I was so pooped by the end of it that HS consistency was a bit too hard: 2 2 4 4 3 => 15/25

RIP bike basket

I managed to shape it back into a basket somehow :D

My quads are killing me since yesterday, I suspect from pistol squats on Monday (I do some leg work before hips) but it's a bit odd - it usually doesn't hurt that much.

Tuesday ctd

Daily Persian = yes

Coffee = 2

Bed time = yes, I went so early that I woke up before the cat

Wednesday

Alleluia I made back-bends! Very gritty but done. Still no stuff on elbows, injury is healing but mat rub still doesn't feel quite right.

Woo, here to follow along!! And we're coffee limiting solidarity buddies, though I didn't put it in my official challenge goals. :D

Coffee limiters united!

I had 2 today... not great really...I did not even enjoy the second one.

Well the nightmare with social security has started, I was way too optimistic. They are now asking me for documents that I gave 2 months ago ffs! :beaten: I suspect it's because they have 2 distinct services, one for work-related accidents (my bike accident is considered work-related because I was on my way to work) and for people entering or re-entering the system (where my file was initially submitted). And in 2019, lo and and behold, they are unable to make a match...

It's almost flattering for an Assassin. Stealth! French bureaucracy seems absolutely unable to identify me.

And I woke up early again (5am...), did my custom P2 session with some press to HS skill work in it.

I haven't done any P2 bent arm work in about 3 weeks, and it was not too bad! Elbow lever spins were a bit tougher on the right, but the usual on the left. I can still do one leg crows. I just feel some lack of practice. Straddle holds were poor despite all the pancake training I have been doing (quads were not up to it). V-sits were somewhat better in terms of shape but I still can't hold them beyond a macro second.

I did not do HS lowers / HS to crows, instead I worked on the press to up my practice to 3x / week. I did not manage any thing below the stool this time, only ugly floats. I need to be really fresh for those attempts, so I just worked the stool in the end. And volume was low too, just activating body memory is enough for that session I think.

The whole thing followed by HS consistency: 19/25

You'd think 5x5 consistency gets easier over time but definitely not, it's still so much hard work. I managed holds but there were quite pikey, meaning quite a bit of fatigue.

I finished with some rhombs physio because one got grumpy after lever spins.

Now shower and I'll go in person to social security to sort stuff out...:tyrannosaurus:

Current log is looking good:

Well on Thursday morning it was closed... but on Friday, I got confirmation that my rights have been opened, however I will need to get a new social security ID... They used a special department number for people born abroad, and now they have ran out of combinations. This is not exactly good news in the sense that you are supposed to have only 1 number throughout your life. Why can't they keep my current number and update their ID strategy for newborns only? And apparently it's also specific to people born in North Africa.

I just don't like the smell of it... I fear that this will not unfold in my favour at some point (ie what happens to retirement points I had on my previous number? Of course they say it's fine but I doubt it)... not much I can do though. So now I should get at least some paperwork with a temporary number that I can use. It will not work with my work health insurance yet, but I can get  that sorted retroactively later. At least I should get my bike accident expenses reimbursed.

Curious but have you tried doing your consistency practice after just a quick warm up? If you’re doing that much shoulder work beforehand they’re probably tired or you might be running out of focus. It’s still really nice though and much improved from before!

Yes I have tried! And it's nicer and my score also goes up over the 20s. But then I'm knackered for anything else coming afterwards :DSo I'd rather do it the other way around. Work in progress first, and consistency (and also endurance) has a conditioning thing. It's harder, my stats are lower, but it's less risky for my shoulders I think. Worse case scenario, if I'm too tired, start feeling some pain, I'll stop. I'd rather be fresh for press, and stop on HS consistency, than the reverse.

Hi! Thanks and welcome! Are you training HS too? Do you have a thread somewhere?

So 2 days rest, and a session today that was a bit of a struggle bus. Not much going on under stool level. And everything felt just a bit harder than usual. Even endurance was so so, got one at 35s, tried some more without success and called it a day.

No coffee allowed this week-end...

Persian is good though, and I feel that I'm actually reading faster.

Ha and I still don't have nice pictures from the city but I took a few video clips on my way to and back from work. Not great on the bike, it's a bit jumpy. But here it is:

That round white building is very odd.

Yes the architecture style seems quite open. A bit like Tehran as a matter of fact :D

That white one is a residential building, locally called the white tree. Although I see more of a hedgehog in it but hey

Hm that's a bummer to have a mediocre day after having had some rest. Next one will hopefully be better :)

Let'see!

It does happen every so often. Might a mental meh moment and/or a little reaction to no-coffee at all.

Coffee 2 2 2 2 2 0 0 | 10/10

Yesterday I went to bed long after 10pm but since I had a nap in the afternoon, I feel ok.

I'm pretty happy with last week. I broke my coffee pot at home, so I did stick to no-coffee. If I could stop having an extra at work every it would be great.

This morning: legs and hips.

That does not seem like a good strategy for social security numbers at all! What the heck.

I also like the little video tour. :)

Duh 2 coffee yesterday and I went to bed a bit after 10pm and missed the sleeping bus. It took a while, I kept waking up. Not nice.

However a much nicer press to HS session this morning despite not sleeping that well. Still only floating with books but doing really well on stool. The books are the new stool :D I feel the same sort of struggle I used to have a few months ago on the stool, which makes me quite hopeful.

HS consistency was also great: 4 5 5 4 3 => 21/25 hit my PR (never done more than 21).

Such nice tangible progress :D

You gonna replace that coffee pot or just live without?

I'll def get a new one! I don't want a fancy coffee machine because I'll abuse it for sure. I will stick to the Italian model that makes just about a mug.

Yesterday,  Persian /check bed time /check

Some good soul also brought chicory at work (they bought it for themselves but don't like the taste), I can smell the nice smell of fresh-bean coffee but have chicory in my mug instead. Pretty mean trick but it works past the first real coffee.

And this morning back-bends! I still can't rub my injured elbow on the mat, it's definitely healing but the flesh that has grown back is young and tender :D

Otherwise not a bad session but not great either, I've lost it a bit and I can feel it.

Loving all the progress.   Your consistency is really paying off :)

Let's see! Sometimes when I focus on a specific shiny, it keeps eluding me (cf P2 flow with bent arm press). HS has definitely come a long way though.

I'm starting to long for the beginning of circus classes! So curious as to what the content will be. I'm familiar enough with aerial stuff but the other cross-disciplinary class is teasing me. And having a teacher and classmates ha ha! I have been training on my own for so long.

Yesterday evening we ended up watching a bunch of episodes from a series, and bedtime was severely ignored. This morning I'm a bit tired physically and mentally, so I'll take a rest day and attend to P2 tomorrow morning. Persian and coffee are going well. This chicory trick is working.

So I got my "official temporary number" for social security but they are still sending me annoying mails like "we can't find your medical certificate - if you don't give it to us we will close your work accident file and ask you to reimburse social cover etc...". Duh I gave it to you and I paid everything myself you dumb as*** :hopelessness: My work place of course has a copy of that medical certificate, and I do as well. It's just them... So anyway, more photocopies and dropping mail in their letter box. Fortunately their building is 2 mn away from our place, the waste of time is fairly minimal.
