Snarkyfishguts
So new challenge means introductions. Hi! I'm Snarkyfishguts, and today I realized I don't really like coffee. Unless it's an iced mocha from Starbucks (skim, no whip!) I just think coffee is too bitter, and I don't like it. I find introductions to be the most intimidating part of any conversation. I sweat a lot during introductions, and then CLAMMY HANDS! OH NO! This challenge is difficult for me in terms of choosing goals. In the past, I've worked on healthy habits, and have successfully maintained about half of them. And while those healthy habits really help me with the day to day living, I want to focus on my Epic Quest and remember WHY those healthy habits matter. At the end of this challenge I'll be traveling to Maine and checking off a box in my Epic Quest of places I want to visit. I have to fit into a 17 inch airplane seat, and be fit enough to go hiking every day. I currently can fit into a 19 inch seat, and can hike every other day. So I'm not too far away from my goal, and I know from past experience, that getting to the point I want to be is pretty realistic in 5 weeks. Goal #1. Count Calories on MFP. Thank you @Sylvaa and @deftona for being my buds and giving me enough peer pressure that I eat a vegetable. Goal # 2. Exercise every day, even though I'd rather be walking and it's so dang hot and buggy out there, I can find other exercises to do instead or I can just sweat through my bug-resistant hoodie and just DEAL WITH IT. WHATEVER. I've decided the bare minimum exercise is 25 squats a day. Whether I'm traveling or at home, I can always do 25 squats. And sometimes, just getting started with moving is enough to get me to keep going. So 25 squats, plus some. DAILY HIKING WITH BEAUTIFUL VIEWS AWAITS! I will post my exercise here. Goal #3. Learn more about how my camera works beyond the pointing and clicking. Take photos of things and share them here! That way I can take my camera with me to Maine and take ALL THE PHOTOS. Bonus Goal: Stop waiting around for some imaginary start bell and just start doing the things. Learn the languages, write the book, take the classes, book the trips. Stop waiting and live life. 6 Quote Link to comment

Snarkyfishguts
Yesterday I Did 25 squats and went on a very short walk. I got about a half mile into it when the THUNDER was like "Hey, get inside, woman! I'm gonna be fierce!" Counted ALL the calories. So many calories. I had two really big meals yesterday and I was so hungry, I scarfed them down, even though they were kinda gross. I definitely eat less and better when I have three meals and a snack. I charged my camera and got a memory card in when I was distracted probably by a squirrel or a bird. I had planned to take week 0 off and start the challenge when I return next week. But then my goals are pretty travel-friendly, so I'm going to try to stick to them as much as I can. I probably won't be able to use MFP to count since the place has limited internet, but they serve very healthy meals so if I follow the plate rule, I'll be fine. I'm not planning on using the internet, and want to just take this time to really enjoy being alone and to shed this feeling that I need to be available at all times. Personal Growth Time. But I'll take my camera with me, and make sure I at least get my squats in. Tomorrow I hit the road! I better start packing 5 Quote Link to comment

Its smaller than the 40D. It’s reasonable but we don’t use it for everything. Unless we have another adult coming along to Disney, for example, we leave it at home and use our phones. We also get the magic pass that gives us all those photos the photographers at Disney take of us. We usually carry it in a small suitcase for regular travel along with a few other more fragile things then take it and whatever lens we plan on using out. It was used extensively along Route 44 and in the National Parks because everything is within good range of the car. But longer hikes or days where we’ll be carrying our stuff, we typically opt to leave it. All that is within the context of traveling with small children. I have always carried a backpack and there’s plenty of room for it and it’s case if you’re not carrying diapers, wipes, and other small child supplies. I took tons of pictures on it in Nebraska when I was supervising teens and helping with set build and strike instead of watching and carrying a 1, 4, and 6 year old everywhere. I guess a lot of it depends on how much you care about super high quality pics and how much you just want a bunch of regular stuff. I definitely love having it. 1 Quote Adventurer, Half-Dwarf Chaotic-Good Paladin Ne me dites jamais les chances! ¡Nunca me digas las probabilidades! Traveling when I was single and then married prior to kids were very different experiences. As a single male I was harassed by US customs for several years due to a clerical error. That all cleared up when I met Jessie, and traveling with her is 1000% fun. 1 Quote Adventurer, Half-Dwarf Chaotic-Good Paladin Ne me dites jamais les chances! ¡Nunca me digas las probabilidades! Snarkyfishguts
There is wifi! It is crappy wifi! I find if I’m online during the times other people are busy that seems to work out really well. The workshop is definitely not the magical experience I was hoping for. I did have one amazing lunch with a table of women who were talking about all sorts of good stuff, and I think that was my money’s worth right there. But the food is too fattening, overcooked, and I’ve started eating peppermint to counteract it. I’m skipping dinner, especially after realizing I’ve probably reached my calorie count already. Nothing is really different though. It’s just me. I’m over these kind of workshops and professional networking events. This is my last one. I’m going to save my money and travel places. I want to be uncomfortable somewhere completely new and different. TWO MORE SLEEPS AND I’M OUTTA HERE. 4 Quote Link to comment
