Ohh how did your teammate help you with mind-lat connection? Can always use more tools for that particular problem! 

Hope your shoulder feels much more awesome (not because of the above but just because it stopped hurting, hopefully).

A few things, but because of the transfer I've been running really lean on groceries and didn't want to restock again in case there were more issues. :|

Day 4.1

Before practice, we had a brief team meeting to go over the next couple of months and make a few announcements. I brought cookies, of course, as social coordinator/party pharaoh. ;) Practice itself was actually pretty productive for me! My toe shoots went about 1000x better than on Saturday and I kipped out of a few of them. I did a short bit of tumbling, but something about my timing was really off and most of my passes felt a little funny. I ended with balance beam: all my usual skills on the high beam plus backhand spring on low beam and then up on high beam with all of the mats. It's time to start weaning off of mats, I think. The skill itself is basically perfect 90% of the time, I just need to get used to not having my safety net of mats. 

 

We got dinner after practice, as usual for Mondays.

 

Jog: 3/3 

Lift: 8/15

Write: 5/10 writing, 5/10 journaling

Job applications: 5/10

 

So I was going to take off of lifting today because I've worked out the last 5 dayssssss. But then I would be lifting W, Th, and Friday? Which doesn't sound great either. I'm going out of town Saturday morning probably through Monday afternoon... HMM. Maybe I'll just go lift today after all.

She poked me a lot and suggested I think about spreading my shoulders instead of pushing up/back which I think helped a lot. And gave me some like pull down type drills that I'll try to find a video of on the internet. It was more mental cueing than like drill drills, though. I don't think I engage my left side (my problem shoulder) very well in general so it's something to start working on.

Shoulder stability and core stuff. You try not to move anything but your shoulders but as you can see by this guy (and most people), you wind up moving your hips sometimes. Just over here trying to make stability work interesting. :P

Day 4.2

In the end, she did not lift. I care more about being rested for my heavy day 1 and day 2 workouts rather than being less fatigued for my lighter day 3 workout, so we're just gonna string them all together because I'll be out for the weekend. I'll just take it relatively easy on Friday, maybe do more hypertrophy style accessory work than nailing home more barbell squats.

 

Instead, I found one of our cats that got out when the fridge got replaced (yay new fridge, but BOO it's smaller now) a few yards over and hauled him back in the house, took a nap, did laundry, folded and put away laundry (yeee), got some groceries, prepped dinner food for the next three nights, etc. etc.

 

Jog: 3/3

Ugh, my sympathies on the fridge. It's so hard to get used to the idea that you can't stock as much as you used to. Yay for recovering the cat, though, and glad you've got a working fridge again.

Also, wayyyy to freaking go 'tron - glad you're able to find a mindset that embraces recreational fitness and leaves you feeling zero workout guilt (or at least, a smaller number that's approaching zero).

I think it's going to work okay, but it is extra annoying as 3 adults trying to share fridge space. I definitely don't have as many random condiments and things anymore, so that probably helps with like a "minimalist" fridge approach. :P

Day 4.3

 

Squats:

5 x 260 <-- one of my side spotters starting helping on the last rep and I AM A BIT ANNOYED ABOUT IT, but I think I had it so I'm considering this a real 5RM

2 x 260# to make up for the "missed" rep

5 x 245

2 x 5 x 235#

 

Bench:

5 x 140 <-- woo! a gym friend was like "...this is so in your head. if I had snuck up and slid more weight on before you did the set, you would have been fine too, you dingus."

4 x 5 x 135#

 

Glute ham raises: 3 x 8

Curls: 3 x 8 x 20#

Toes-to-bar: 3 x 8

 

I went home, showered, ate a very filling dinner of quinoa + spinach + chipotle black beans + sauteed ground turkey with hatch chilis and onions (all things I prepped on Tuesday). The D&D game went a bit late and our group for this short 2-shot is completely insane. We have my aforementioned snooty southern belle yuan-ti shadow monk, an elf fanboy dwarf bladesinger who likes to tell us facts about elves and how elves would do things, a gnome rogue who is basically a turn-of-the-century rough rider, and a dragonborn thunder-obsessed sorcerer-din. We almost died and then we got sucked into a trap world where apparently we are tiny or everything else is really big and a massive bug orgy is trying to chase us up these 100 ft tall stairs on a spooky house in the woods. WHO KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT!

Have you thought about streaming the sessions?

We would need to be a lot better/more disciplined about clarifying between in-character and out of character speculation, I think if we wanted this to actually be entertaining to watch. Andddd get rid of a lot of unrelated jokes. And be a litttttle bit more focused and in-character more of the time. BUT MAYBE EVENTUALLY! I think we have the potential to be very entertaining but need to all commit a bit more. :P 

 

Day 4.4

Deadlifts defeated me again, guhhh. I did 290# x 5 last week but this week, I loaded up 295# for a set of 5 and could barely eke out a double. I'M SO IN MY HEAD ABOUT THESE FOR NO REEEEASON. I think I just rush my set-up and try to pull off the floor without taking the slack out when I get intimidated. I also get really really aware of how I am breathing which is NOT HELPFUL. I unloaded down to 285# and the set of 5 was relatively easy. :rolleyes:

 

Deadlifts: 2 x 295#, 1 x 295#, 5 x 285#, 3 x 5 x 275#

Handstands: various to ground myself between deadlift attempts when I was losing my mind

Close-grip bench: 4 x 8 x 120#

Lateral raises: 3 x 8 x 15#

DB rows: 4 x 10 x 45#

 

Went home, ate dinner, and had a meeting about starting a nonprofit, showered, and tbh then it was time for bed, so I did some mindless scrolling and went to sleep around 11.

 

Jog: 3/3 

Lift: 10/15

Write: 6/10 writing, 6/10 journaling

Job applications: 6/10

 

I need to step it up with my job applications if I want to be serious about leaving this jobbbb. I will get some in today and then make an effort next week after the holiday to really get after it. That phone interview turned out to be a bust, btw, because the position was a bit too small fry for what I am looking for -- though it is a kind of nice feeling to say "oh, actually that's not going to be enough for me" and move on.

Haha fair enough. I get if you wanna keep it casual between friends, but based on your awesome descriptions it seems like people would watch!

 

Boooo about deadlifts. Hope the mental block goes away soon!

Heyyyy, this exact same thing happened to me, but minus 100lb. 190lb x 5 with brio, then 195lb x 2 with doom and despair. I think your doom-set sounds awesome. I would trade it for my win-set.

Day 4.5

My lowkey lifting day was pretty nice actually. I left work early because my boss was like "scram, kid!" and went right to the gym. 

 

Paused bench press: 2 x 5 x 125#, 3 x 5 x 130#

Lunges: 4 x 10 x 35#

Kneeling DB press: 4 x 10 x 30#

Pull-ups: 3, 3, 2, 2

Reverse hypers: 4 x 10 x 75#

Various handstand holds, including some attempts to come down to crow from handstand -- but I hadn't worked on that transition in a long, long time AND I was very sweaty so there was no way it was actually going to work because I forgot about that whole bending your arms aspect. :P 

 

 

Picked up some wine on my way home and attempted to make a gluten free blueberry pie. The pie crust I made was more like a cookie crust than a flaky crust but people said it tasted good! Though I'm not sure the bride even had any and she was the one who insisted I do it. :rolleyes:

Days 4.6 - 5.1

The bachelorette weekend involved a dueling piano bar (of course), very late night beach escapades, a brief sailing trip, a nice seafood dinner, etc. Unfortunately, the bride went a bit too hard on Saturday night and didn't have a great Sunday, but she did her best, haha. 

 

I got home on Monday relatively early and everything in our freezer seemed to be melted. Over the course of the day, both the freezer and the fridge got warmer and warmer... so I guess the new fridge saga still continues. Hopefully it'll be fixed by Wednesday!
