Hello, I am Tanktimus, I'm here cause I follow all the Guild General Chat threads since I can't follow every single person's challenge threads. Something Nerdy about me: I read the Appendices when I do my readthrough of Lord of the Rings, and often read The Silmarillion as well.

My favorite experience travelling was for sure my Honeymoon to Spain in 2017.

I'm Athaclena. I TRY to follow a few threads every challenge, but usually drop off the first couple of weeks LOL. I'm an IT Consultant - and while I used to do crazy travel, there's been changes at my company that has me home more often - so I'm trying to build some healthy activity into my "routines" - mainly walking. I've been around NF a long time, but have taken several long breaks (and am back from a shorter one of a couple of months).

My favorite traveling experience - I'm going to have to go with a 7 - day cruise to Alaska! Absolutely beautiful! Highly recommend it (but I can't recommend Norwegian as the line to do it on).

Hi! I'm Wobbegong. I'm a guild leader here at Rebel so if you're new and need anything (or not new and need anything) please feel free to come to me! Something nerdy... video games are nerdy, right? Lately there's been a lot of Pokemon Go chatter around the Rebel forums, and many of us play, myself included. But right now my game focus is Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I'm crazy into it. 

 

I currently live abroad, so I'm not sure if I can consider it traveling since I have a regular home in this country that is still quite foreign to me (Japan), but since I'm far from my native home there are many aspects of living here that feel like traveling. It's probably been my favorite experience partially BECAUSE I have a home here, so I can feel like I'm experiencing new places and a new culture and not have to return to a hotel at the end of the day.

Lately I've been thinking that I'd really like to try going on a cruise. My mom has never been on one, because her mom went once and came back and was super annoyed by all the group activities that she had been dragged into. I don't think I'd be able to handle an ocean liner, since you're basically trapped at sea in your hotel, but I'm really interested in river and inland sea cruises, where you pull in at a new port every day so it's more like having a moving hotel. 

 

What trouble did you have with Norwegian? I mostly see Princess as the big name in river cruises (not that I can afford to go on one now, but sometimes I like to fantasize) but Norwegian pops up from time to time also.

We were in Barcelona, then Seville, then back to Barcelona. We had both been to Spain before when we were in college. She did a Semester abroad in Seville in Spring of '01, I did a two week mission trip later that summer, one week in Vitoria and one week in Alcobendas.

A River cruise in Europe is totally on my bucket list!

So - here's the deal with my Norwegian experience. They REALLY tout "Freestyle" dining. On normal cruises, your dinner is at a huge table with one or two other families (you can usually choose larger\smaller table sizes depending on how you are with LOTS of new people) and you have an early and late seating. While I'm not a big fan of the "group" dinner - the free style dining experience was horrible for an Alaskan cruise. Because all of the main restaurants were always FULL when we wanted to eat we ended up at the buffet. And there's not a lot of seating at the buffet. So the only place to sit was.... outside where in SE Alaska it is COLD and WET. So we'd balance a few plates and drinks between us back to our state room. They didn't have trays specifically to discourage just that - but we did it anyway. If instead of Alaska we were in the Caribbean - it would have been a totally different experience .... We've done a couple of Caribbean cruises on Royal Caribbean - and those we thoroughly enjoyed!

Other than THAT.... we had a great time! There are lots of places to go on the ship if you can't\don't want to be social. And trust me, neither hubby or I are the big social types LOL.

I'm Lateral Planet, Australian ambassador to Rebel, and for this challenge I'm on a mission to fit into my wedding dress!

 

Really can't decide my favourite travel experience right now. Highlights include: doing archaeology in Philippines and Vanuatu, checking out ancient stuff in Greece and Laos, eating everything in Japan, and getting engaged in Cambodia.

 

Right now I'm planning for our honeymoon in USA and Fiji. If anyone has hot tips for fun things to do/eat (aside from the obvious tourist stuff) in San Francisco, Vegas or LA, drop me a line my thread I know San Francisco Zoo is rightly very proud of their koalas, but I could just see those here, y'know?

 Never even considered that! That's hilarious. In San Francisco, you should take some time to visit Chinatown. I know you have those in Australia as well, but immigration from China is a huge part of San Francisco's history and culture, and it's fun to wander around and see what's going on there.

Yep Chinatown's definitely on the list, and it's just a short walk from our hotel so that's dinner taken care of! I think Melbourne's Chinatown is about the same age but nowhere near the same size. One thing I know to expect from America is that everything's bigger there!

Hi.  I'm relatively new to the forums, still feeling my way around and amazed by the vast quantity of information available from all the amazing rebels.  My nerdy tendencies usually relate to body stuff- I'm a massage therapist who loves helping people work through the tough spots so they can improve themselves,- and fantasy stories of all kinds, fairy tales through LotR. And my first love was Latin.

 

My favorite travel experience was definitely the chance to spend with a week in Rome with MrW, my parents, and another couple of whom one was a fellow Classics major and the other is a Classics professor.   So much fun and an amazing personal tour guide all in one trip.  And food, wine, and learning.  But then again, my honeymoon to Disney World was pure fun.  And I got to hug Tigger.

Hi all! I am Rookie and I am a newly appointed ambassador of the Rebels  I am in the Rebels because I love it here. It is my NF home.

 

Something nerdy about myself ... I love learning about animals ... behaviours, breeds, colouring, habitats etc. I have always loved learning about them.   

 

Geez I am really not sure. I have a few "favourites"... 6 years ago my family and I went on a Mediterranean cruise and we spent a few days in Barcelona before boarding. As soon as we got to the hotel from the airport my mom and I went to explore a bit. We found a tiny little bar where we ate small sandwichs and food on sticks and had a beer. At the end you pay for how many sticks you had on your plate. That was cool. I really enjoyed just going around on the hop on hop off bus and seeing the different things in Barcelona.  I loved visting Pompeii (Italy) and learning about the history there and I loved going to the Amalfi coast (Italy) and seeing/smelling the giant lemons. And more recently (as in 2 weeks ago.. I went to Paris with my mom, sister and sister in law. My mom, sister and I went on a little adventure to find a chocolate shop that served some thick hot chocolate. It was such a cute side street and we had some of the best tarts there. And we visited the stables at Versaille and saw the horse show. Definitely a highlight!

Hi everyone! I just returned from travelling to the lovely city of Stockholm where the museums are free and the seafood is divine. Nerdy thing about me: I like playing D&D. I also like playing the sports and jock version of D&D, fantasy football. Last year I tried to put a league together here at NF, and failed, so this year we're trying again. If you're interested, come take a look at the league thread in the off-topic forum! Despite what the name implies, it's not just for warriors.
