theophilus Posted August 14, 2019 Report Share Posted August 14, 2019 Hi fellow Scouts! My last few challenges have petered out, and I totally missed the start of this challenge. But I’ve been doing mediocre running-wise and abysmally food-wise, so here I am. Mid-/Long-term, I’m looking to drop 20 lbs over the next six-ish month. I want to get back some of the speed and endurance I’ve lost on the slow weight gain over the past decade. I also recently started bouldering, and I want to be in fighting trim so I can level up the difficulty of problems I’m able to complete. Here are my goals this challenge: 1. Get out and run at least three times per week. 2. Track all food. 3. theophilus Posted August 15, 2019 Author Report Share Posted August 15, 2019 Day one (for me) 1. I got out and ran two miles this morning. I was feeling really energized and fresh when I started, so I managed an 8:05 mile out. Which was great! But... it was also too much too fast, and I posted 9:42 for the mile back in. Oh well! 2. Logged it all today, but it didn’t really impact my choices. The fam and I went out to the beach today, and I loaded up on snacks. Then, per tradition, we got ice cream and sea food afterward, and that didn’t do me any favors. But goodness it was tasty. 3. No gym today, sore from yesterday’s climb. theophilus Posted August 17, 2019 Author Report Share Posted August 17, 2019 Thursday, 8/15 1. Didn’t run on Thursday, which was good rest. I’ve been going hard interviewing for jobs (more on that in a minute), and it was nice to get a *touch* more sleep 2. Went to the rock gym for a bit. I only started climbing in May, and took about a month off while I was traveling this summer. Kinda sucks to have lost the small gains I made my first couple months doing it, but I’m hopeful the strength and skill will come back quickly. 3. Logged everything Friday 8/16 1. Ran 2.25 miles, pretty slow. 2. No rock gym 3. Logged it all again. Actually came in under my calorie goal today too. In some personal news, I got a job offer this week! I’m heading into my second year of law school, and legal hiring in the US is bonkers. I’m looking for a job now that I’ll start next summer, that will then hopefully result in an offer to join the firm after I graduate. We had an exhausting week of on-campus interviews last week (I met with 25 firms), and now I’m doing “callbacks” with some of those. Fell off the food tracking wagon So to recap last week: I ran 3 times (yay!), got to the rock gym twice (yay!), and logged 3/5 days (yay!/boo!) Monday 8/19 1. Rest 2. Rest 3. theophilus Posted September 2, 2019 Author Report Share Posted September 2, 2019 Unexpected super fast turnaround trip to Phoenix threw everything off. But I’ve done my best to maintain the exercise, just not the food logging. I got two runs in last week including a short run in Phoenix (so hot!) and one long-ish run back here in Mass. I think I hit the rock gym Saturday as well, so I got two trips in last week. We've been trying to get outside with the kiddos and drink in the last bit of summer before school starts tomorrow. We spent a couple hours canoeing last week, which the kids loved, even if they weren’t the *most* helpful. And then we drove up to Maine yesterday for a day trip and hike.
