Kind of new?

Recommended Posts

I joined last year, and though I haven't been posting, I've been using the last year for trial and error. Seeing what works, and trying to implement small positive changes. I've come a long way in some areas, but not so far in others. I haven't really been tracking my progress though, which should change now. This is my next step.

I like D&D, fantasy, sci-fi, reading, and food.

Welcome! Some changes stick more easily and other require trying different tactics or just reloading and running at the same enemy repeatedly. Most of us are still working on something :)

@Harriet Thanks! I'm looking forward to starting the next challenge in September and maybe making a battle log? I've got a lot of reading to do to figure all this out!

The challenges are a great place to start, they're super hepful for setting and tracking goals and getting encouragement and accountability. I've never used the battle logs because I guess I don't feel I need them as well as the challenges.

There's more continuity in the battle logs. Less people but still some support, less pressure behind the goals, more freedom behind the time format. They're basically a public personal diary, the atmosphere there is a little bit more intimate than in the challenge sections. The thing I really like about them is that I can easily read it back from the start and follow my evolution, some themes tend to come back regularly, some posts months appart are basically the same, it helps to highlight problems and count the victories on the way (I tend to have a hard time feeling progress in my life, seeing the celebrating posts in my battlelog helps me to remember that I've come a long way from where I previously was).

Both formats (challenges and battlelogs) have their perks. If I want to reach a specific [set of] goal[s], then the challenges are a great place to be. If I want to pursue a long term trend, then I tend to rely more on my battle log. Other people may use it differently (and you can track your challenges in your signature so you can read them back to back to keep track of them all if you so wish too).

@YaymeQ : Welcome and have fun!

I really appreciate both of your inputs. I like the sound of the battle logs for longer term and challenges for more immediate goals. Also I'd like to get started sooner rather than later so I can start a battle log while I wait for the next challenge to start. I just gotta figure out how high (or low) I want to aim in my log.

You don't have to wait to jump into a challenge, there's two more weeks going, that's plenty of time. Come play with us, jump right in!*

I forgot to write that keeping both a battlelog and a challenge thread current at the same time requires a lot of time. Battlelogs can go dormant for indefinite amounts of time so, if you start one, don't be afraid to let it drop and take it back whenever you need it.

* One of the big reasons why we don't do things is because, well, we don't do the thing. Don't let anything get in your way (timelines, perfect preparation, other aspects of perfection), jump in and swim. People here are friendly, you'll be welcomed with both arms open.

I don't know why I got stuck on that. I know better! Thanks for saying it. I'll go make a challenge today then.
