Shello Tries Again, and Again, and Again

I'm returning after a bit of a break.  My previous challenges this year were not successes.  I'm back to try again.

At the very least, maybe I can at least fail better this time around. 

 

I've recently had my wellness check through work.  A passing grade gets you a discount in your health insurance for the following year.  I did not pass.  I was quite close to passing on a couple of goals and I still have a month to retake the labs.  In the short term, I am hoping my goals can help me financially and I can get the discount.  But in the long run, it does serve to remind me about my Big Why and why I bother fitnessing at all.  I need to find goals that fit my lifestyle that will give me the longevity and quality of life that I want in my future.  

 

To get things started again and keep things achievable, I've come up with some meager goals.

 

FOOD

Intermittent Fasting

.  This has worked for me in the past and I only eat junk in the morning anyway.  I'm only shooting for a minimum of 14 hours.  I normally fast for 13 hours as it is.  How hard can it be?

 

Freggies

Seriously!  Eat some damn freggies, girl!  The goal is to eat 3 servings a day.  That's like barely any.  How hard can it be?

 

FITNESS

Steps

Get your steps in!  My Fitbit goal is set at 8,000.  I probably hit that once every 2 weeks.  I average about 5,000 steps a day without putting any effort into it.  I need to get 8000 steps 5 days a week. How hard can 8,000 be?

 

Workout

I've thought about hitting the gym over the past months but talked myself out of it because I didn't have a plan to go regularly.  I just need to go.  It doesn't have to be all the time.  My goal is to hit the gym once and then do a workout or yoga session at home per week.  How hard can that be?

Those wellness goals are such a scam; the reason they have them is so that you don’t blame the insurance company when your rates go up.

They are a scam really. But really my labs could be better so I'll redo them near the end of November.

I remember one at a company where I used to work where to get a bonus you had to log 60 minutes of solid state cardio with your heart rate at like 60-80% of max multiple times a week.

Week 0 Monday

I only managed to fast for 13 hours.  I was ready to gnaw off my arm so I grabbed my breakfast early.  I like IF but not in the face of genuine hunger.  I did have some grapes with breakfast, then a banana with lunch, and some strawberries as a pre-dinner snack so I was good on the freggies front.  

 

I struggled with getting my steps in too.  I focused on getting the 250 steps every hour at work but then by evening I still needed a fair number of steps.  I was busy until 7:30 and then had dinner.  By the time all that was done I no longer had any gumption to get steps.  A lot of my nights are busy and I have no interest in making them busier.  Sometimes my nights aren't busy  and I like to keep them that way.  I decided the best way to focus on hitting my step goal is to try to get more each hour at work.  However, I promptly forgot to even pay attention to my steps every hour on Tuesday.  

 

Week 0 Tuesday

I completely forgot to pay attention to my Fitbit but it was a busy day with meetings.  I worked just shy of a 9 hour day and had meetings for 5 of those hours.  I only missed the hourly steps for 2 of those hours so I figure that's still a win.  But I ended the day with only 6047 steps.  

 

I almost managed to fast for 14 hours. I was actually 15 minutes short but I was coming up on 2 consecutive hours of meetings and I wasn't about to wait that long.  I ended my fast just before the meeting and granted the 15 minutes as a necessity by schedule.  I had a banana with lunch, grapes as an afternoon snack, and some green beans with dinner for another freggy win.

Week 0 Wednesday

I did a better job of watching my steps during the day at work.  I planned to try and hit the gym but after work, class, a meeting on campus, and a boy scout popcorn swap I forgot that was my plan.  I picked up a deli pizza on the way home.  Going to the gym after pizza is just craziness.  I did hit 7361 steps.  Still not a win but I'm failing better at it.  

 

Fasting was good.  I had a meeting right at the 14 hour mark so I had some chocolate milk right before it.  I did struggle with freggies. I had a banana at lunch and a pre-dinner apple.  But I had more pizza than I needed and there was no room for freggies by then anyway...as if I would have had any with pizza anyway.  But I'm taking half a win for 2 servings of freggies.

Week 0 Thursday

I hit and exceeded my fasting goal.  I finished eating the night before later than usual, probably because of a snack, but then I was able to wait until lunch Thursday and hit 14:45 hours fasting.  I had grapes with lunch, an apple for an afternoon snack, and green beans with a kick ass burger for dinner.  

 

Steps on the other hand were dismal.  4718.  Work was busy and I didn't make the time for steps between meetings and other interruptions.  Then DDG came over after work to hang out.  I only hit the 250 steps an hour for 4 hours of the day.

I was going to ask about DDG but didn't want to bring it up if things had gone South. Glad to see that is still going on [emoji4]
 

We are still seeing each other and it is going splendidly. He’s around once or twice a week when the kids are at my place and then he stays over the other week.
DDG still stands for Doodlie Dude Guy, right?

Lol. I think that’s what we landed on. He started as Dinner Date Guy but it evolved once things got serious.

Week 0 Friday

I was hoping for a 3 star day but I got behind on my steps in the morning at work and could never recover.  I did manage to get a lot of work done.  I've been behind for what feels like forever.  I discovered that if I walk to each wing of the building, on each floor, and circle the department it's 1000 steps back to my desk.  I did this twice and still only managed 6700 steps.  DDG came by in the evening and there was some 'yoga' during which I was not wearing my Fitbit so certainly that counts for something.  I also did some yoga.  

 

I did manage to fast for 15-1/2 hours.  I was starting to get hungry at the 14 hour mark but just decided to hold out for lunch.  I had grapes with lunch and an apple in the afternoon but dinner was a quick pizza before DDG had to leave so I didn't have any with dinner.  I'm going to change up my lunch next week to include some celery so I can get 2 portions at lunch making it easier to hit my goal.  I'm going to Ranger these goals into submission!

Week 0 Saturday

3/3!

Technically only 2 out of 3 but I'm giving myself a passterisk for fasting.  I made it well past 14 hours from dinner but the night before I had a swig of chocolate milk late in the evening.  It wasn't even enough to qualify as a snack, but counting from then until breakfast was only 13 hours.  I was genuinely hungry, like rumbly stomach hungry so I'm counting it as a win.  I had an apple and a Babybel for a snack after the gym and then carrots of green beans with dinner for my 3 freggies.  

 

I gymed!  I didn't enjoy it but I didn't die and I felt good about it afterwards.  I had no real plans but just wanted to get to the gym.  One thing led to another and I did 30 minutes on the elliptical.  My Fitbit totally ripped me off and only gave me 1000 steps during that half hour. But I ran a lot of errands and did some sanding in the basement on the drywall.  I got close to 10,000 by the end of the day.

Week 0 Sunday

I easily fasted for 15 hours.  It helped that I slept in and then laid in bed reading and then watching TV before getting up for food.   Lazy Sundays for the win!  I had some strawberries and cream while I made breakfast (egg and bacon on cheez toast) and then had green beans and carrots with dinner (fake breaded chicken sandwich with bacon).  Lunch was some buttermilk banana bread I made.  I had both ripe bananas and extra buttermilk to use up so it was a necessity.  I also baked some buttermilk chocolate chip muffins to take with lunch for the week.  

 

I did not get my steps in, only 6200, but it was a perfect Sunday with a list of things that needed to get done and just enough time to get it done interspersed with some reading and relaxing.  I didn't want to complicate the day with any additional activities.

Week 0 Summary

IF - I struggled with this goal at the beginning but I expected I would.  I don't need food in the morning but my body had grown accustom to it.  I did hit the goal 5/7 days plus a 6th day with a passterisk.  I seem to be getting back into the swing of things.  It has curbed most after dinner snacking and eliminate the junk I was eating in the mornings.  

 

Freggies - I still struggle with this one but I think it just comes down to planning.  I've made some alterations to my packed lunch and that should help.  I did manage to hit the goal 5/7 days.  

 

Steps - This goal has been quite tricky.  I hit the goal 1/7 days.  When I planned this goal I underestimated my aversion to getting out to walk around the block to get the rest of my steps.  I've also come a long way on my hiatus with keeping myself from getting too busy and not overburdening myself.  I still struggle with guilt but I appreciate my down time and I'm struggling to make this goal a priority.  However, my weekly average went up to 6855 steps.  The only weeks it has been higher than that were vacation weeks with lots of walking.  I count that as a win!  I am modifying my goal to hit 8000 steps 5 days a week rather than every day.   And I'm going to try and focus on getting as many steps at work as possible.  

 

Workouts - I did get both workouts in.  I didn't put a lot of thought or effort into either but they got done and that was really the point.
