SuzyQLou - Short and Sweet Challenge

suzyQlou

Recommended Posts

Five words or less challenge.

1.  Log my food on paper.

2.  Five minutes exercise every day.

3.  Check in twice a week.

Ongoing:  10,000 step monthly average.

Post a hike every month.

Serve fruit with dinner often.

Mini stretches throughout the day.

Time to be accountable again!

Sidenote:

Five words is so terse.

There is rhythm typing it.

Wait, is this hai - ku?

Hi there!

Good to see you, Elastigirl!

I love that a perfect anniversary date with my husband still consists of a hike, dinner, and a book store. We celebrated 19 years this week, and our hike was a lovely one on a golden hillside:

Hi, Terra. It’s good to see you!  I always feel lucky to celebrate my anniversary. 19 years is a long time!

Ah, Salinger. It’s good to see you. I better go read your thread. There is always so much going on in your journey!

Five words feels mostly sufficient.

You get your point across.

That totally counts as poetry.

Oops. I’ve already lost sight of five words. I was afraid I wouldn’t have time for more. Thanks for your kind words.

Your five words are encouraging!

Goals are going well so far. I do need to make up yesterday’s exercise, but the thrill of a new challenge has helped me exercise more when I don’t feel like doing it. Baby steps are good right now!

I’m feeling Ranger-like today as I pack for a camping trip.  The boy scouts are going to Valley Forge near Philadelphia for some historical hiking and orienteering. Usually, my husband goes on these trips, but it is finally my turn.  Now I just need to keep my wits about me so that I enjoy...and not just survive...the experience.

Looking forward to hearing about your trip!

Thanks for asking.  I had a great weekend with the boy scouts.  I stayed warm (or warm enough) in a freezing cold tent for two nights.  We hiked eleven miles on pretty easy paths, and I didn't fall too far behind.  We finished off our trip with indoor skydiving which was a blast!

It was wonderful being with my son on a trip like this one.  This is his first year with the older boys, and I hope we have many more great adventures.  Here is a quick photo of the hike through the lovely hillsides of Valley Forge on a beautiful, sunny day.

My goals are looking pretty good.  I am giving myself a pass on the weekend, so I've logged food and exercised every day.  I did have to stretch the exercise rule so that I could double-up on one day and count it for two.  Seems fair to me!  Here I am checking in again, so that keeps my accountability on track.  And my 11 mile hike helped me log 33 thousand steps on Saturday.  Now my average monthly step count back up above 10 thousand.

This week is back to normal for me, so it will be important to keep goals in front of me.  They are small this challenge, but they are very important.  Baby steps to get back to where I was in my healthiest challenge...and then beyond.

The leaves are beautiful here. One of my favorite parts about living in Pennsylvania.

How is this week going for ya?

This week is going great!  I attribute it to setting such tiny goals, but I’m managing to log my food and exercise a little every day.

One observation for the week. I visited Sensory Friendly Storytime another library in my library system, and it was so much better to sit on the floor. I have set mobility goals before, but I have new motivation to try again.

I think sitting on the floor at least part of each day has been the most beneficial things I've done for my mobility

I’ve been struggling a little this week, but I just made up my two delinquent exercise days. I feel better today, and less like a lump.

Tracking meals is going pretty well. My log is filled all week.

I’m feeling a little sore from putting my veggie garden to sleep for the winter, but harvesting the last of the carrots makes the soreness worthwhile. They look pretty dirty, but that keeps them fresher longer.  They taste great honey-roasted!

Oh my word, those carrots looks AMAZING!!!!x x

And I ate them all!  Well, my family helped.  Carrots were great in chicken noodle soup and roasted alongside a pork dish.

My challenge is slow and steady.  It was definitely a good idea to start small.  I have seven exercises written on popsicle sticks, and I make sure I have emptied the can each week.  I'm looking forward to scaling up by adding 3-4 sticks next challenge.

Yoga is technically 30 minutes instead of 5, but it is written on one of my exercise sticks.  Since I've done it three weeks in a row, I've noticed a difference in flexibility.  I have hope!  One day I will stretch all the way down into frog pose...or even children's pose, lol.  In the meantime, thank goodness for yoga blocks!

I love Fresh crops from the garden BUT

we had to pick our potatoes/carrots early :(

as our chickens were digging them up.

now ofc after the snow and ice; there's little alive in the garden.

your lucky to be in the more hospitable part of pennsylvania.  winter is shorter and better than up here near Erie.

anyways.  I think the idea of starting small is awesome and I love the ingenuity of using popsicle sticks.  I love the randomness of that.  its kind of like my exercise class: i can vaguely know the kind of things she has us do- but what Exactly we are doing today is a big mystery/discovery.

Those carrots look tasty. And what a delight to have fresh carrots from your garden.I forgot where you live. Is it frosty there already. Do carrots do alright in the cold?

Hi TGP!  I sympathize with your chicken woes, and it’s nice to find another chicken lover. I have a small flock, and they have altered the way I think about gardening. Chicken wire is named that for a reason!

I am in south central Pennsylvania, so it’s zone 6B. We had our first frost in October, but some things lingered on until mid November. Carrots are pretty cold hardy, which is good because they take FOREVER to grow from seed In my garden.

I’m hanging in there through the holidays. Thanksgiving was reasonable. I’ve only misses a couple days logging, and have been able to make up missed exercise so far. I’m running a little behind checking in on the forums, but I can still make it!
