Doing my first chinup through progressions

Recommended Posts

Set#1 (quarterpatials)… 10reps

Set#2 (quarterpartials).. 10reps

Set#3 (quarterpartials)… 20reps

Set#4 (hold@90)... 19sec

Set#5 (Deadhang)… 16sec

I know the numbers look a little bit better. but I really didn't feel that strong today.  I'm not sure why.  my exercise class resumed this week and it might have added a little new volume to my exercise routine.

Keep doing set #1 as quarter partials.   Advance sets #2 and #3 to half-range partials (Level 6).

Sorry for cutting in, but I have this feeling all the time doing my FPP from strongfirst. Despite numbers show progress across the board, I tend to think I'm too weak and because of that I struggle with the exercise. But what needs to be taken into equation - the "struggle level" remains mostly constant, but reps go up. Today I struggle with 7 reps, yet two weeks ago I struggled with 5. Noticing this can break this negative thinking (at least I try to tell it to myself).

You are doing really great Jason :encouragement:

speaking of perceived effort I actually felt a little stronger today than normal

half partials are a lot harder than quarter partials though

SEt#1 (quarterpartials)... 15reps

Set#2 (Halfpartials).... 5 reps

Set#3 (Halfpartials).... 6 reps

Set#4 (Holdat 90*).... 20sec

Set#5 (Deadhang)..... 20sec

just a notice @Hazard

I think I'm getting close to the end.

I want to try this routine for 1 MORE week (Monday Jan 20 and Friday Jan 24) with half partials as set 1,2,3  *

then I'm gonna blow you away with some of the nicest chinups you EVER saw!

all from dead hang; and I will do everything possible to get a good vid of it.

I'm feeling SO much stronger than I was when I started; its amazing!

I'm thinking I can probably do 3-5 Strict chinups consecutively.  and I truly couldn't do 1 when I started.  (without cheating).

* the plan is assuming I can break the half partials at 15 seconds, and preferably for 2 consecutive sets, by Jan24.

Stick with this setup for now.   Don't go too hard on Set #1 -- just use the quarter partials as a warmup, leaving some reps "in the tank".  Put your main efforts into the half-partials, Sets #2 and #3.
