Ranger Hal Starts Out

Recommended Posts

Ranger Hal isn't quite sure about starting out with a non-standard challenge thing, but has decided that waiting until January to start working on new habits would be worse.  So, here goes.

1) Eat a vegetable with one meal every day

2) Run one day per week

3) Complete one workout per week

4) Clean the kitchen two minutes each day

Thanks for the welcome, all!

Week 1 Monday

1) Cooked acorn squash w/ honey for dinner

4) Washed a pile of dishes

Week 1 Tuesday

1) Went out to dinner with friends after a hike and ordered a veggie burrito. It was very good!

4) Put out the recycling (it had taken over almost half of the kitchen table)

Week 1 Wednesday

1) Ate carrots at lunch. Also ate veggie pizza with friends for dinner. I didn't know you could put broccoli on pizza, but it was surprisingly good.

2) Ran this morning

4) Did dishes, I think. It was something in the kitchen anyway.

Week 1 Thursday

1) Ate the other half of the acorn squash

Forgot to do any cleaning. Also forgot to brush my teeth before bed which I'm more annoyed about. I'd been doing so well at remembering that.

Week 1 Friday

1) Cooked some zucchini with dill. Yum!

3) Did a workout

4) Washed more dishes

I need to do better about recording what I do promptly. I'm forgetting what I did a couple of days ago.

Week 1 Saturday

1) Ate some vegetable. Maybe the rest of the zucchini?

4) Washed dishes

Week 1 Sunday

1) Broccoli!

4) More dishes I think (I'm actually making a dent in the stack and I can see the stove well enough to know that it will eventually need to be included in my cleaning.)

Week 2 Monday

1) Broccoli again

4) Put the dishes away

I came home once (well back to a friends) after a night boozing, her bf is a chef and we wanted pizza but he said he would make us broccoli. We complained but it was the best ive ever had, stir-fried in loads of garlic with soy sauce which made a deep salty glaze. MY WORD ....

That sounds amazing! I might have to get more broccoli so I can try it with lots of garlic.

Most of the time, I stir fry the broccoli with some kind of teriyaki sauce, but this time I boiled it for 2 minutes (so it was still squeaky) and then added some seasoned salt.

Week 2 Tuesday

1) I overcooked the green beans and they turned gray. They taste much better when they're still green.

I'm shocked! :P

Week 2 Wednesday

1) Ate the rest of the overcooked beans with BBQ sauce. Not bad considering I don't like BBQ sauce all that much (I keep forgetting that).

4) Still more dishes. I am making progress. I am washing more dishes than I am creating in a day.

Also went on a short hike with some friends after work.

Week 2 Thursday

1) Note to self: don't boil the broccoli for a minute and then stir fry it. The result was slightly odd.

3) Installed my new chin-up bar and used it during my workout. Not that I've ever been able to do actual chin-ups, but maybe I'll get there eventually.

4) Dishes

you are doing great!eating well, hikes and cleaning!!x

Thanks!

Week 2 Saturday

1) Ate asparagus (among other yummy things) at the company holiday party. Because of experiences as a child, that's one vegetable that I won't cook at home (along with brussels sprouts), but this time it was not bad.

4) Put away dishes. I'm not sure it was actually 2 minutes, but I've barely been home all day and I don't feel like tackling a new section of the kitchen tonight.
