Heyoo, friends, proper replies in a bit but,

i think it was yesterday i did practically nothing other than half a workout. i was in bed most of the day with a headache that had me all queasy and seemed like it was affecting my vision as well. neither eating food or drinking water or taking pills budged it so, just waited it out. better today, though still didn't do much of anything except, today, a string of Assignments and an exam (got a 95%).

The vegetable box arrived! It was late enough to have me concerned, but it got here and was quite the collection of produce! We have four little heads of baby bok choy, a cabbage, two...dark green, spinach-y, lettuce-y things, six golden beets with the greens still on, a butternut squash, two eggplants, six apples, six oranges, i think five little potatoes, two huge heads of celery, two shallots, two garlics, something like three mangoes...i think that's it but could well have forgotten something. (edit: She Forgot The Green Beans) That all would have been $35, but with the new year promo i got it for $22. A lot of it i can just do my usual things with, roasting and salad and whatnot, and then Soup. I've never had beets or bok choy before, so that should be interesting!

My vitamins also arrived the day before yesterday, so i'm on my third dose now. *twirl* we've got a multi, a pre+probiotic that's supposed to be good for skin, plus i've read that probiotics can help with mood stuff, and one that's supposed to be for sleep and also good for skin, but which contains ingredients i've also read are good for mood stuff. Nothing else of note going on, other than proper intention to do a good day tomorrow. ❤️

Bok Choy is awesome and easy to handle. Beets can stain fabric something fierce, so be careful when handling them and be aware of what touches them and what they touch.

That veggie box sounds amazing! And bok choy is delicious. I haven't had much luck cooking beets, but I've liked them at restaurants sometimes, so I'm planning to try again in the near future.

I’m glad the headache finally relented!! Good job on your exam!! Holy smokes that’s a lot of veggies!!

Thanks! It really is! Depending on how the customization option goes i might just keep the subscription; it seems like a pretty good value, especially for the amount, variety, and it being organic produce no less. :D

I've found a couple different recipes to try with the bok choy and will probably use it for tonight's dinner ^_^ the beets are of the golden variety, and according to the internet it's looking like they're a bit less intense than the red kind, which is probably for the best

Oh, and, the no sugar thing is Going...i'm either day seven or six, who knows at this point tbh. But i'm in one of my dips of not being super enthusiastic about food (despite being interested to try bok choy and use the vegetables from the box!) and all of the things i do want are stuff like...chocolate milk  or a cup of sweetened tea. But we're not trying to break the no-sugar streak until 30 days, so just have to keep with it.  ( there is no chocolate milk or any milk actually on hand at the moment, so really it's just a matter of not mixing up some brownies or not making the tea with sugar in )

Yikes, that sounds so difficult!! Good for you sticking with it!

I'm so excited to hear what you do with the bok choy! My sister cooks with it a lot - all I know how to do is grill it, but she stir-fries it and makes lots of yummy mysterious things!  :)

Hey hey Mia how are you today?xx

I'm good! I have let most of my goals slip a bit, but am working on an actual day schedule to help me get back on track ^_^

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did another exam today! So now there are only two left for Reading Skills. The aren't due until January 25th and 30th respectively, but i'll get them done before then to build a bit of a buffer for when the more difficult stuff comes up. As mentioned above, my other goals have swerved and i'm doing a Schedule to help fix that. I have done some exercise today, and a bit of cleaning. Also, it's Norrell and Chellers (my cats'!) birthday today! They're officially one entire year old! So happy birthday kitties! :D

Another exam done! And since there aren't many assignments before the next one, and it's only mid-day, after a little break i'll go ahead and start toward that next exam to finish up the Reading Skills module ^_^ on this one i just did, i got a 95 on both the first try and the retake, so it's the first 95 i'm permanently stuck with...boo for that, but it still says i have a 4.00 GPA (by their standards, at least) so i'm not overly annoyed with it...even if i am annoyed by the phrasing on some of the questions 👀

still have to do some exercise today, and later doing some cooking with broski. We got two eggplants in the vegetable box. I haven't enjoyed eggplant previously and didn't think we had ingredients to try anything with it i've not had before, so he cooked one of them, but then i found a recipe for a berbere eggplant and chickpea...stew situation, it seems, that we do have most of the ingredients for. So we'll see if i like eggplant served that way. :D

Friday is supposed to be grocery day, but ngl we've been looking at the numbers and it appears we're going to be in some dire financial straits for two weeks as momsauce's salary will be lower than normal. Trying not to stress too much about that but i have noticed perhaps a correlation between Impending Unpleasant Situation and "oof i could really use a cup of sweet tea or a scrounge cake right now" 🤔 ( but we mustn't! )

I'm sorry about the tough financial straits - it really is ridiculously hard to be Not Rich. And it's especially hard to eat healthy and avoid sugars and things when you're Not Rich. Especially when you're Stressed. ❤️  I'm so glad the eggplant worked for you, though, and yay on the bok choy too!! I'm glad you're getting those vegetable boxes - my family used to get those and they're not only a fun surprise and challenge, but they also keep you going in the vitamins and minerals department when shopping isn't on the schedule. Were there other veggies in the box?

You're doing so well on your schoolwork and I'm so proud of you!!!  ❤️

There were so many other veggies in the box! I think the grand total was two shallots, two bulbs of garlic, a butternut squash, two eggplants, a big bag of greenbeans, two little lettuces, six golden beets, a little cabbage, six oranges, six apples, six little potatoes, four heads (bulbs?) of baby bok choy, and two things of celery. So not a bad haul for sure :D

Thank you for your encouragement Sky! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Nothing really interesting going on except one Possibly situation. I might be able to go on a mission trip/volunteer opportunity in July. I've discussed it with momsauce and then sent the "Hey, i'm interested" email so, waiting to hear back now but if everything works out, it's a week, possibly two if i volunteer for both sessions, it's in-state so not dizzyingly far from home or anything. The information page specifically mentioned dietary accommodations including gluten-free and vegan. And they have different options to choose from as far as the actual work assigned, so overall it sounds like a good first 'away mission'

I did! I don't know why they had me contact someone, though, because they just directed me to go through the camp website anyway. And it's not looking too hopeful right now because there's a  $650-$925 (the higher number would be to do both sessions) fee due before March 1st soooooo...yeah no there's no way my family can afford that. Asked B (Associate Pastor at church) about the church's "helping to pay for mission trips" program, so now waiting to hear  back about that.

Not gonna lie i'm having a bit of a mood dip, probably related to the above and that volunteer opportunities are limited by money and the entire 'mission trip' goal might have to be put on hold because they all cost money, and my local opportunities are limited by transportation. But at least there are some things i'm able to do so that's something. Also having a bit of sensory overload right now and everything in general is overwhelming, but that's just a thing.

On the short-term brightside momsauce might have found us a little leeway in this pay-period's dire straits, and paused the vegetable subscription in favor of a very cheap grocery list.

Hi Mia! A little late to the party, but following along and cheering you on.

About the mission trip/volunteer opportunities that are limited by money and transportation, 1, I obviously hope they work out in your favor because that would be fun. 2, are there non-money volunteer opportunities that speak to you as well?

I hope that you're feeling better and that the budget tweaking that your mom is undoubtedly rocking goes well!

Aye, it's been mentioned numerous times at church that there is a fund to help people be able to go on these events, i just don't know if that only applies to the out of country or out of state ones. A GoFundMe is a good idea! Probably couldn't hurt to open one up and see how it goes. The actual camp also provides some sort of fundraising resources, but only once you've paid the $100 application fee and had the application accepted. I can't really be upset about it as the money is for a good purpose...they're a non-profit camp that's whole thing is letting individuals with disabilities- and their family -attend a kind of uplifting, fun sort of time at no cost to them. So the money paid by the volunteers goes to help cover an attendee as well. ( plus i assume they do additional fundraising )

Heyoo, Nic! ❤️ There are non-money volunteer opportunities, but again they're limited by transportation. Since i can't drive at the moment (even if i had a license, we've only one vehicle and can't afford another, and momsauce has to drive it to work every day) and there's no public transport option, i can't get to anything that's not on a Saturday or Sunday, or after momsauce's work hours- which are a bit unpredictable. For instance she's meant to be off at 3PM each day and yet today it's about a quarter to 7PM and she's still at work. I do take what opportunities come up, but just want to be doing more.

Thank you for the well-wishes and encouragement! It's much appreciated :D

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today,

still waiting to hear back from B. Ehehe....shortly after sending the message last night, i saw that he'd seen it, and the little dots popped up that he was typing...but then they went away and i've not heard anything yet  maybe he's waiting until Sunday to be like ",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,pls,,,,Stop,,,," XD Much of last night was spent having a lovely mental rolodex of every poor decision or outright bad thing i've ever done, mind got entirely too loud but i did not self-harm despite having the impulse to do so. Accidentally went somewhere over 24 hours without eating, finally had a stew made from the leftovers from the other day (since making it i've just kept adding things? last of a bag of frozen spinach, some tomato paste, bit of leftover hummus, the cabbage from the vegetable box, some broth....make it stretch, yes) and that was around 12PM and now it's nearly 7PM and i've not had anything since. Momsauce is bringing something or other though.

i think i've done pretty well with putting together a grocery order at less than half our usual cost. haven't put it in yet, that's tomorrow. few bits we can't get at our store so we'll still pick up some other things, but it's pretty good. :)

edit/update: Currently attempting to beat existential depression with a stick and be spitefully optimistic bc whatever the current money situation is, we've been there before and honestly we're not that bad off. might be stressful as hell but basic needs are met. i am working on my school and will eventually be able to get a proper job and contribute to the household income. even if the current limitations never change there are good things i'm capable of doing. cats are a thing that exists. Even if B nopes me about the trip and i can't do a mission trip this year that doesn't mean it'll absolutely never happen, and hey, it might still happen. and in any case life right now is still absolutely better than it was in 2016 or really any previous stage of my life so  @myself Chill, Buddy, it'll be Fine ❤️

Groceries: Ordered. We go pick them up around 11AM. Menu for the next fortnite is:

Golden Beet + Butternut Squash stew
Hashbrown Casserole
Hummus Pasta
Roasted Potatoes + Greens/green beans

...why does 'pasta' not look like a real word rn...looks like she's missing a letter  still have to pick up a couple of ingredients for the casserole, and one ingredient for momsauce's foodstuffs that we couldn't get at a good price in our town...Aldi's in the City so we'll be able to go there after church today. Also! B got back to me! All he said though is the same thing he's said before, that there's a fund for this sort of thing and that the church is typically pretty generous with it. I don't know if he'll tell me any more at church today or if i need to prod for further information but! there's that 🎉

Thanks! B didn't mention it at church, so i've sent another message to ask if the Camp Volunteering thing is eligible for the funding. ^_^

YESTERDAY we did it. we stayed all. day. in the city in order to go to evening classes/service at church. and it was nice but now i'm super tired today  oddly i wound up getting in a lot of walking and going up and down stairs. never could get my laptop to connect to any wifi at the church, so i just listened to my Hadestown CD for much of the wait. Also there's been a development! Momsauce has now enrolled in an online program about medical billing and coding, so the whole family's in school now XD any prayers or good vibes for her would be much appreciated!

Today's main jobs:

  • Do the Exercise
  • Take Exam
  • Call the blood donation place i had to make two phonecalls because i forgot to ask one of my questions the first time BUT got the info i need and it's all set, will be donating after church next Sunday
  • Do as many of my other Tasks as i can. not a SMART goal but today is a bit of a recovery day  (we've got to streamline the whole Sunday process to not be Extra Dead the next day XD)

my cat is currently in the Snuggle Zone, purring all over me ^_^
