😝 Oh, I love a good game of Cards Against Humanity, too - when playing with the ‘we have no patience for rules and the attention span of newts’ crowd.

That's one game I just don't enjoy at all. You can't even win! And I don't find it funny...

trying to see if an iPad would be an acceptable replacement for my really not very functional laptop or if I need a new laptop.

Obviously depends a lot on what you do, but an iPad with a keyboard can probably work alright if you mostly do email or word processing kind of things. I couldn't do it, I require a browser with proper multi-tab handling. And if you do anything that requires precision mouse input you're not going to like a big touchscreen only...

That’s my worry.

Current life can do most everything I need to do on my phone, just not terribly comfortably.

Things I want and need to be able to accomplish: front-end development, light graphic design, photo processing, light video design.

Ive found workarounds for split-screening and device slaving, so I can make that work theoretically - my favorite dev program is t available, but there are others - and I can make photo processing work.

i save pretty much everything remotely anyways, so that’s not an issue - aaaand I’ll be able to comfortably bring my iPad on the plane (there’s a current partial ban on MacBook Pros on Qatar Air).

My DH keeps trying to sell me on the pen being a replacement for my mouse re: graphic design - I just haven’t gotten used to a Wacom tablet or the like.

So, I *think* I can make it work, it will just take some getting used to. And maybe compromise? But maybe not? It would definitely be lighter and more travel-friendly.

The only way I can see that working is to remote-desk into a proper computer...

For front-end development you need different browsers to test that everything works. And a proper console to see any (error-)messages. An element inspector is also needed.

The rest of your list should be doable on a tablet I think.

I've used a cheap chromebook that I rooted and installed Crouton on. That was pretty nice for development, and everything else too really :) It was also fanless, which I super-duper loved! But I don't know if that's an option anymore.

True. There are workarounds for testing, but they’re kind of a pain in the ass and I much prefer the more straightforward method. Forgot about Chromebook - we do actually have one of those, we just never crack it open.

And my current computer isn’t dead-dead, it’s just old af, takes a million years to boot, and threatens every time I get it going to die.

Wednesday

Travel day and DH’s birthday.

Was super excited to be in a flight with 2 actual live falcons.

The falcons were on their way to the Marni Festival in Qatar (falcon racing and hunting competition), and up to 8 are allowed per flight - provided they have their own seat.

The birds fly hooded and loose with a handler and mostly just sit in the seat beside them on their glove.

Super cool and exciting.

Came home, snuggled pups, discovered that our favorite Korean place delivers to us which is hella dangerous, did some foot and shoulder focused yoga while watching Brooklyn 99.

Thursday, Friday

Thursday: Back at it with a Slow & Strong class after doing jack and shit all day.

Knitting supplies for the baby blanket came in, so that’s something else to look forward to - may temporarily abandon my busywork shawl to work on that; shawl is vaguely killing my hands.

Food was ok? Maybe? I don’t remember.

Friday

Sat around bickering about what to do and how to get DH food until friends pinged seeing if we wanted to join them at the golf club for food/drinks. Did that, then everyone came back here - more drinks were had, Asian & pizza were ordered - I super forgot to actually order the pizza until like half an hour/40 minutes had gone by. Oops. Pizza came hella late, and then everyone left.

Why I’m in charge of things when I’ve been drinking, I’ll never know. Totally going to get picked on for liiiiife over this one.

Just a little breath work throughout the day - because I was cold, because I was stuffy and short of breath, because I wanted to relax before sleep.

This breath work before sleep business is actually kind of nice.

I've been doing yoga before bed, and I agree. Lots of breath work during yoga. Adriene always emphasizes how good it is to focus on the breath. And yeah, it's been nice :)  What kind of breath work do you do?

I work on focusing my breath - either long, slow deep breaths or diaphragm breaths or filling top to bottom/bottom top or bending a bit and focusing on a side.

Mostly diaphragm atm, because that’s what we focus on in my pm slow & strong class - that instructor is all about foundational movements, and diaphragmatic breathing is one of them. We tend to use other muscles to breathe - and that’s not the most efficient thing. He’s also huge into activating the serratus muscle (huge neck/shoulder/rib muscle used in push motions)

Awesome! First time I tried Breath of Fire was unreal. I would never have believed anyone telling me you could get hot from just breathing, but you absolutely can 🔥 Breathing is a powerful thing! Any good youtube videos that focuses on the kind of diaphragmatic breathing you're doing? When I try to breath fast and strong - really pushing the air out by drawing my stomach in, I find it difficult to refill my lungs fast enough. The suuuuper long and deep breaths come much more naturally for me. Like three breaths per minute slow.

This is close:

Though my instructor has us hold our side ribs and focus on spreading our breath out 360 degrees laterally across our diaphragms

Saturday, Sunday

Saturday we celebrated DH’s bday out with friends at a steak house after breakfast with friends, Sunday we ran around doing DH things and walked the mall.

Both days included breathing exercises, though goal for this month is to do more actual yoga.

I feel like I did fairly well with this first challenge of 2020 - not spectacular, and I ate like an asshole more days than I’d like, but I didn’t fall down on the job, either.

on to the next:

What on earth is that purple vomit in the top right photo? :D

Surprisingly good! A hot mess, though. Fried chicken sandwich with spicy mayo, blue cheese slaw, and a blueberry sauce that only looked purple and tasted vaguely sweet.

sounds weird, but the combo actually worked.

All the different components sound tasty on their own, love blue cheese slaw. I would never have thought to combine them like that though :)

Me either, that’s why I had to get it! I could picture the rest of the flavors together - but not the blueberry.

That’s actually a driving factor behind my pretty much always ordering the “weird” thing on the menu - I’m most definitely a food nerd.

Hah, me too! "I have no idea what this is - let's order it!" :)  Actually did that just now for lunch. Was a new fruit I had never seen or heard of before. Had to do a Google image search to try to identify it after tasting it. Apparently it's called Soursop.

Ooh, cool! I think I’ve had soursop on one of my ‘let’s buy all the fruit I don’t recognize’ binges. Does it taste like a cross between an apple and a pear?
