I remember my sister several years ago, laughing at the Canadian politicians saying they will "probably" vote no-confidence, just so that they could not be called for lying if they change their mind and decide not to.

Is this challenge going to be about probabilities?

Happy new year to you!  I will probably go to bed early.  There is a New Year's deadlift party at the gym at 11:30.

Can't fail if it's just probably  😜

I am DEFINITELY going to lift some things though! I emailed a gym that I looked at back in February (that I really liked, but then sprained my wrist) and I have my first workout on Friday morning. This will be my second workout in a gym since February, as I haven't had a gym membership since then. Here we go.

YAY! Have fun! It's so nice to return to a gym after a while, I recently did the same thing.

The gym is actually a pretty neat concept of semi private training (but different than small group). Everyone does an assessment and gets their own program. There is then coaches there to help you with feedback or if you need assistance. So it's a little bit best of both worlds. You get the social aspect from a class, but you also get specialized personal coaching.

Woke up at 5:45 to haul my ass to the gym. It was just fine :) I think I will like it here, but I'll give it the full 21 day trial before I make decisions. Did 2 sets of everything, which was good for first day back.

Dynamic Warmup

1a- Dead bugs w stability ball

1b- glute bridge w leg extension

1c- band pull aparts

2a- lateral jumps

2b- med ball rotational slams

3a- goblet squat

3b- TRX row

3c- air bike sprint

3d- idk what its called, but you get in like "cat" position, but knees up and just breathe. deceptively hard

4a- sled push

4b- farmers walk

cool down

Kept everything light and it still kicked my ass. It was a good day to ease back in. Feels good to be moving in this way again. I'll be back on Monday :)

Yes lifting! This is awesome. Assessment and feedback from a good coach sound very useful.

I guess kind of? When I was there there was a lot of people working on different things, one guy was going a lot of agility stuff for soccer, one guy was recovering from a knee injury so doing a lot of rehab, one woman was doing strength. So it really depends what you want to do I think the coaches will tailor for you.

Weekend:

Friday evening went to Wisconsin punk fest 👩‍🎤🤘 where I stayed until 11:30ish because I'm old, and I was tired and I woke up early for the gym. Would have loved to have stayed until bar close to see the rest of the bands though. It was a super fun time :)

Saturday afternoon had comics club

Sunday: Made the mini, hung out with Mr J a lot, did a lot of cleaning/organizing, watched golden globes (...yikes. Used to love watching these, but they seem to have gone downhill the past few years)

Lots of reading all weekend

I went to the gym again this morning. The program was different today. I haven't gotten a good feel yet for how many different workouts/week I'll be getting. I told them I'm aiming for 4x/week for the winter. Today was similar structure as Friday with superset/circuit style. Dynamic warmup, core, power, strength (2 circuits), then ESD which I'm not sure what that stands for, but today was rowing and ski erg, cool down. There were a lot more people today than Friday.

Today's plan: need to grocery shop, also want to go to Menards for plastic for the windows and install that tonight. I'll also put up a real goals post at some point tonight (probably).

This sounds a lot like my place.  We have one part that focuses on weightlifting.  We have another part that focuses on powerlifting.  We have another part that focuses on what you are describing, movement, mobility, general strength and fitness training.

I tried it that way and it was gross.  I bitched and moaned about it all the time.  I blamed stupid o'clock workouts for missed lifts and no gains.

Now I blame beltless training.

Morning workouts aren't for everyone and that is ok :)

Where is your challenge or are you hanging out in BL land?

Comics club is in two parts. First part is "squee" in which we squee about what we read the past month, what we liked, recommend, didn't like, etc. We pass everything around and everyone usually swaps books for a month. This month I squeed about Harley Quinn Breaking Glass by Mariko Tamaki and Steve Pugh and I'm also doing a reread of Scott Pilgrim series with a friend who has not read it before which I squeed about also. Second part depends,  sometimes there is a theme, or someone gives a presentation, or we do crafts. This month's theme was rebirth/reboot. So people bring stuff along this theme which typically dovetail into more of a general discussion surrounding pop culture and the theme. I've put this months "minutes" from the theme part in the spoiler if you care to peruse.

Spoiler
Luisa-Now & Then: Carol Maurel, adapted by Mariko Tamaki (Life Drawn)

Zero Hour-Crisis in Time: Dan Jurgens & Jerry Ordway (DC)

Orange: Ichigo Takano Content Warning-suicide!

Generally manga doesn’t “wipe the slate clean” & reboot because characters don’t pass from writer to writer, but manga is often reprinted or retranslated (e.g. Sailor Moon and Fruits Basket)

There’s a difference between rebooting something with continuous readership (e.g. comics with long continuity) and rebooting something with generational readership (e.g. each generation gets its own version of Nancy Drew)

Oooooo. I just finished House of X/Powers of X since they released the trade in December (squee!), which would have fit well into this months theme.

I'm just gonna low key hang out in here for comics recommendations. I fell hard back into comics and graphic novels last year after like a decade of not following along. :)
