I had a big year last year (had my first year being a truly single person since 2008, moved into a new apt with random roommates, facilitated new cat friendships, went to a bunch of weddings, took a lot of weekend trips, got super into spending too much money on tattoos, hit the job search for months, etc.). Now, I am in the final stages of negotiating a job offer at a new organization that will be a big change in just about every way. And otherwise my life progresses at its usual breakneck pace. The holidays are dead! Long live MY HOLIDAYS! 🎊 What's going on this month ⭐ 1/11-13: Friend visiting from out of town ⭐ 1/16-22: Visiting Mexico City (including ✨my birthday ✨ on 1/19~) ⭐ 1/30-2/2: Maybe YOLO to London to visit one of my besties ⭐ 2/3: Possibly starting a new job?? Gymnastics season is having a bit of a late start this year just because of how the meets are shaking out on the schedule. As it stands right now, I don't think my first one is until late February. There is a mock meet on Jan 11 that I am considering skipping because of my friend's visit, but idk, we'll see what happens. My focus in the gymnastics world is trying to get skills and routines ready for competition. My lifting gets a final peak before I transition to a new, lower intensity program to go alongside the ramp up of gymnastics season. I don't have any life-y resolutions right now or significant themes/trends I'm trying to pursue yet, so it's just going to be trying to save some money after the hemorrhage that was the holidays. 1. Lifting Test new bench 1RM Run 2 more weeks of weird double deadlift progression Pick a new program to run after CDMX (I have a couple ideas, but just need to settle on one) 2. Gymnastics Free hip circle drills 1x per week (trying to connect to a toe-on directly) Back handsprings 1x per week on whatever beam Floor routine with tumbling at least 1x per week 3. I did 11 hours of travel in a 1-day round trip last month just for a tattoo, haha. I've done this trip to visit my friend before and didn't find it too bad! It's about 400 and they did a lot of end-of-year hiring, I believe. Much bigger than my current company of 40. Zero Week Update Dump M - gymnastics practice with all of the things I normally do. I was a bit low energy, but did a lot of tumbling that was pretty good, worked on bars, and did a tiny bit of balance beam T - lifting, hit 155# on bench for a double but couldn't keep doing those sets because my spotter had to leave, did 260# for a bunch of 3s on squat, and then went home and hosted a NYE party! It was a blast. My dress was amazing, IMO, and I made a peacock flapper headband to go with it because my party was vaguely "roaring 20s" themed. The night went VERY LATE. W - had severe hangxiety on NYD and spent the morning alternating cleaning up after the party and just lying down. Later, I went to one of our gym owner's annual NYD open house party and ate a bunch of very good food which helped revive me to join my pals at the gym for another lifting session where I did volume bench, RDLs, and lots of back accessories Th - back to work and then a rest day where I just ate chips and watched Netflix and remembered that eating chips and watching Netflix is really fucking boring and that's probably why I don't really do it very much F - deadlift workout where I missed 320# for a double AGAIN, but did get it for 3 singles, where the 3rd single felt the best of the lot (yay) then deficits and many more deadlifts + some accessory work, went home after to make food and go to bed early-ish because I was on my period and have a bit of a cold so LETHARGYYY was very real S - gymnastics practice had my second floor routine this season with full tumbling and all of my skills. It was not good, but it happened. I also did a bunch of bars, but was already out of energy by then, and finished up with acro series on beam (3/7 made, which is not bad) and back handsprings on the beam with all of the mats again. I need to take some mats off already, dang it. I went home, THOROUGHLY cleaned my room, did 2 loads of laundry, made some food, and then went out to see a jazz/burlesque show that was Revolutionary War themed (it was just OK, but I loved the concept) and then went from there to a going away party for a teammate S - brunch date w/the woman I had the board game date with last month which was more my element (eating, drinking, and talking) so it was actually really nice. In the afternoon, I had plans to enjoy some edibles and see Cats but my partner in crime (figuratively, not literally as cannabis is legal here 😛) has the flu, so I went home instead and puttered around not accomplishing anyway, but then my friends who do meal prep night reminded me that we all were going to watch Westside vs the World (lmao), so I got a ride there, helped with meal prep, had dinner, watched the movie, and then it was back home and in bed around 11:30 pm! Sunday is technically day 1, but I am not counting it as day 1 because I like to start my challenges on Mondays. SO HERE WE ARE. Haha, I am definitely already with it philosophically. I have been running a slightly modified Magnusson/Ortmayer deadlift program the last few weeks actually. I've really loved adding deficit pulls -- and with the 4x4, the doubles, the AMRAP, and the deficits, it's at least an hour of deadlifting. I'm not sure chasing something with this much intensity when I'm heading into gymnastics season is the best idea though. 4 minutes ago, sylph said: Is that script broken? Day 1.1 To try to prevent the total fatigue on all of the other events, I tried something revolutionary and didn't tumble/do floor routines for an hour at the start of practice. I stretched, did warm-up lanes, and then went right to uneven bars. I worked on all of my routine skills, including trying to do my uprises from a static front support/underswing again but I didn't have very much success there. My toe-ons went pretty well, though, which is good, and I had some nice free hip circles. I think I need to buy new grips though because they've gotten a little long and have been folding weirdly under my hands on some of my catches -- and I should buy soon because it takes some time to break them in. After bars, I went to balance beam and did all of my beam skills before stacking the mats and starting my fear progressions on my back handsprings. I had a bit of an audience because it was the end of practice, so that included the kind of positive peer pressure to keep taking them away I needed. The transition from 4 mats to 3 mats is the big one because I"m mostly concerned about missing my hands and that is the jump where you have a LOT farther to go if you miss your hands. After that, it was still a bit mentally tough to remove some mats, but I did it with less hassle. This was a pretty okay one with 2 mats: After this, I did go down to 1 mat and do 3 more, but I didn't stick any of them, so No tacos ( 😭 ) because everyone is poor and feeling overindulged from the holidays, I guess. I had rice, spinach, and canned tuna for dinner #brofood. I did seasoned rice vinegar and toasted sesame oil and hot sauce, so honestly I thought it was still pretty good, but definitely not as good as tacos.
