I could take that bird. He looks like he doesn't even do legs. But I would only fight one at a time. I heard that @GodzillaKong is actually four such owl-bros in a trench coat.

Days 2.4 - 3.2

Nothing on the exercise front happened while I was in CDMX, obviously. I also didn't realize the city sits at around 7500' elevation, so that was a fun addition to the mix as well. Maybe I was just doing low oxygen training the whole time. One of my friends ultimately didn't come because he had a family emergency (big frowns from me), but we had a solid crew of four lovely ladies.  I don't have a lot of the pictures from the trip yet because I had the worst camera of the bunch, but here's some bits.

We walked a bunch, went to a few museums, visited many parks, pet a bunch of dogs, ate a LOT of tacos and corn dishes, drank a bunch of micheladas and mezcal, went dancing, took naps, swam in the rooftop pool, etc. Maybe because of the altitude or maybe because we're old and tend to wake up earlier, most of our nights ended relatively early. I got hit with some food poisoning on the morning of the second day, but powered through with the help of some OTC meds. We saw a LUCHA LIBRE show in an old arena, which was apparently the smaller, more rundown, local option and it was fantastic, haha. This was the highlight from the show: https://photos.app.goo.gl/A3EsdcCYKZbKWwj29

The last two days were cooler and rainier, so we didn't go out to see the ancient ruins we were considering, but that meant we got to hang out more in the city, which I always appreciate. By the time the trip was over, I felt very content and happy to head home, which is the best kind of vacation. ✌️

Plan for this week:

W - lift + dinner out

Th - gymnastics

F - lift

Sa - gymnastics and D&D or something fun~!

Su - rest + hangs with a friend that might include dinner out again

I DID also book that trip to London. I'll be doing the longer trip (why not) and flying out on a redeye onTuesday night to arrive Wednesday morning next week. My friend has work most of the week, but she'll take a day off and I'm planning on having some work to finish up while I'm out there anyway. Plus, there's a lifting gym I like that I can drop in at AND a gymnastics gym that has daytime open gym that I can also go to! I'll aim to work out at least 3x while I am in London next week. 😁

Living vicariously through your trip photos. Looks like so much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy London. Go have afternoon tea at Dalloway Terrace if you're into that sort of thing - it's tasty, the scones and sandwiches are all you can eat, and the venue is very instagrammable.

Day 3.3

I just went to the gym for a very short workout of the basics because I haven't yet strung together my new lifting program.

Squat: 4 x 5 x 240#

Bench: 4 x 5 x 135#

Deadlifts: 2 x 3 x 285#, 2 x 5 x 275#

Pull-ups: 4, 3, 2

I had a ramen dinner date, went home, ate a supplementary bowl of peanut butter captain crunch cereal (I just needed it, lol), and went to bed around 11pm.

Lifting: bench 1RM tested - 1/1, double deadlift workouts - 2/2, new program - 0/1

Gymnastics: free hip drills - 1/3, beam back handsprings - 3/3, floor routine - 1/3

Life: weekday breakfasts out - 1/3, dinners out  - 4/6, bday highlight video -  .5/1

Travel: CDMX planning - 5/5, London booked - 1/1 (<-- I put this on another line just because I keep forgetting about/ignoring my scavenger hunt video because it was nestled in the line, haha)

EPIC VACATION! I'm glad I got to follow along via pics and stories!

And lol - sometimes a bowl of cereal is just necessary at the end of the day!

Is it me, or is this an especially light week for you? New normal? Or just planned recovery from vacay?

Working out on vacation? Classic raptron (I wholeheartedly approve, I try to do similar to stay sane on vacations).

I feel like it's pretty typical! Lifting T, W, & F plus gymnastics Th & Sat. I might throw in some conditioning on Sunday 🤢 because my stamina at practice last night was so bad. My social cal is kind of light this week and that's probably a good thing.

Day 3.4

Ok, well, I hadn't gone to practice since the mock meet on 1/11, so it was close to 2 weeks sans gymnastics when I got there last night. Weirdly enough, it didn't feel like it had been very long at all, while other times when I miss one practice, it feels like eons. Floor warm-ups all felt pretty good, but I was determined to keep the back handspring trend alive, so I spent a lot of practice on balance beam. I did all of my normal routine skills, including a WHOLE LOT of front walkovers attempting to connect to round-offs. They just were not going well, so I am going to add in some drills on the sit-up part of the walkover because I think I'm coming up a little crooked and/or not using my fucking abs at all SOMEHOW. 🤷‍♀️

Once all of that was set though, I had no more reasons not to work on my handsprings, so I did 3 on the low beam and then moved right to the high beam. My first two were kind of just "please don't die" attempts that didn't stay on the beam, but then I landed 2 perfectly. 🎊 I then did a routine with everything in it and landed that one on the beam too. We're going places, people. After that, I went to uneven bars which was wholly mediocre, but that's okay.

I went home, made fried rice, and finished watching the first episode of Cheer. 👍

Lifting: bench 1RM tested - 1/1, double deadlift workouts - 2/2, new program - 0/1

Gymnastics: free hip drills - 1/3, beam back handsprings - 4/3, floor routine - 1/3

Life: weekday breakfasts out - 1/3, dinners out  - 4/6, bday highlight video -  .5/1

Travel: CDMX planning - 5/5, London booked - 1/1

Ok, well I definitely have to do a floor routine and free hip drills on Saturday at practice. Tonight, I think I'll work on the highlight video and maybe bake something.

Catching up!

I did not know about those "unlimited holiday" policies... That's one of the worse things I ever heard in terms of work rights really  under that disguise of benevolence. but hey let's see how it works out. Isn't there a legal setting that requires a minimal amount of holidays for employees (per state or federal law?)

Day 3.5

Lifting day!

Squat: 5 x 3 x 255#

Bench: 5 x 3 x 145# w/pauses

Kneeling one armed db press: 3 x 10 x 35#

Reverse hyper: 3 x  15 x 90#

DB RDL: 3 x 10 x 55#

And then 3 sets of this horrible ab exercise I thought up in response to my whining about not having any abs for front walkovers. I set up for a ghr sit-up, but with only one leg in the leg holder thing. The other I held up like I would be coming out of a front walkover. Then I had my arms over my head and had to keep them there and try NOT to come up using too much momentum from my shoulders. I could do about 3 with good form on either side, but did sets of 7 with more shoulder involvement because, idk, reasons. My abs are still sore and it's Monday. 😝

I got thai food with the lifting crew after, went home, and realized that Fleabag's seasons are only 6 episodes long and I was an idiot for not having prioritized watching it, so I blew through season 2 with ease. The last episode!!! It killed me. Season 2 was very, very good television. I went to bed a bit late, but my Saturdays have a kind of late start anyway, so it was totally fine!

Day 3.6

Saturday gymnastics practice was lots of uneven bars and tumbling. I did a full floor routine with tumbling and a dance through without real tumbling. Improvement continues to be slow. On uneven bars, my new grips are basically broken in now, so I did lots of skills including uprises, free hips, and toe shoots. Afterwards, I did drills for my body position for free hips and for casts because I never push through my shoulders in the right way or at the right time, so hopefully more drilling will help me figure that out on the bars themselves.

I walked home after practice and then hung out with CM & company. We started their very first D&D adventure! I've been playing online the majority of my sessions that I kind of forgot how much easier/nicer it is to play in person. 😃

Day 3.7

Sunday morning, I got up slooooowly, grabbed a coffee and a slice of strata from my nearby cafe, and watched some college gymnastics. Eventually, I got my shit together and also did a cardio workout. It was a beautiful sunny day. I've been feeling very out of gymnastics endurance shape and while running isn't a 1:1, it's still probably more helpful than not. I jogged for a mile as a warm-up, did 7 sets of ~30s hill sprints with sitting on a curb trying not to throw up, more jogging, and walking at various times between the sprints. The total distance of the workout was about 3 miles over 35 minutes, without me stopping the clock at any point, so that includes all the curb sitting, lol.

Otherwise, the day was pretty relaxed. I did laundry, cleaned the apartment a bit, read a little, and went out for dinner and beers. 👍
