My boyfriend is in the hospital, he was complaining of headaches and tuesday night he woke up from a nap and was talking word salad so I took him to the ER. Longer story shorter, he has surgery today to remove accumulated fluid between his brain and skull (not within the brain itself)  and although the neurologist says its very routine, safe surgery, I'm kind of nervous. Plus I spent Tuesday night sleeping on the floor of the emergency room while they held us there all night. I got some sleep last night though. I'm headed back to the hospital now to sit with him until the surgery which is this afternoon.

 

 

Anyway I have not gotten any workouts since tuesday (gym, not bike) but I am pleased to note that my twitter count is ZERO for every day this week. fuck your evil creation, Jack Dorsey

 

I just got a look at myself in the mirror for the first time in two days and BOY OH OBOY I am a sight. "Crazed Harridian" does not do it justice. I'm going to clean up and then go back to the hospital.

Neuro stuff is no fun for the loved ones. I'm sorry you've had to go through that. If your hospital has a chaplain they are a good resource regardless of your religious preference (if any). We are trained to just listen, so even if all you need is to vent a good chaplain will sit there and let you. Obviously I wish I could do that for you, but, you know, geography and all.

I can understand why you're nervous, this kind of surgery is always concerning but I hope all goes well.

I'm glad you guys are here. my instinct is to put my head down and soldier thru everything myself, but I rarely have the healthiest of instincts. I've got his family up-to-date and I'm going to let his friends know today so that when we get home he can get some emotional goodness and maybe visit with him if he's up to it. The doctor says two weeks-ish for recovery. I made her tell him that last night; he seemed to think he'd be back at work on Monday, with a band-aid on his head and maybe some baby aspirin.

Oh no. I hope the recovery is quick.

I think about your boyfriend every morning. My hair is growing out so I use a bit of hair wax to control it and Target only had Axe brand. So every morning when I put it on the smell makes me think, “I smell like Trippy’s boyfriend.”

Which is kind of weird. I might have to switch brands.

Getting ready to go to the hospital now. Had to catch up a few things at the house plus last night boyfriend was no sooner out of anesthesia than he was making snarky comments about me lurking in the hospital all night and hovering over him, so I’m goving him some space this morning. At least I don’t have to worry that he’d wake up with a massive personality change....

Today's update: 

 

Boyfriend is home. They released him yesterday afternoon. He may have to give up that secret dream of an MMA career, as he now has two holes in his head, but his speech is improving today and he has a very impressive line of staples in his head. He's watching football now. 

 

I am going to the gym in about an hour, as I think he can be left unattended for a bit, and to the grocery store to get my healthy breakfast stuff. To say that my food went off the rails this week is an understatement, but I'm back on the horse today.

 

I will probably have the same micro-goals next week as before, since everything went south on Tuesday evening.

 

- I will shop today for my breakfast food and lunch food so that I have it in the house.

- I will prep my standard breakfast (hard boiled eggs and black beans) so that it is ready for the next three days

- Come hell or high water, I will pack a lunch every morning before I leave the house, and I will keep a PB&J sandwich pre-made in the fridge for emergencies. 

- Sandwiches are totally acceptable for lunch, even though bread is not super nutritious, because an imperfect packed lunch is vastly superior to a bought lunch.

 

- I will have my bike clothes clean and ready to go

- I will organize my bike accessories tonight, so that I'm not looking for things

- I have the times for the rides in my calendar, with alternate times in case of bad weather

- I will research TWO new rides on my side of town, so that I can cut my travel time to rides.

 

I'm going to add to this that I'm going to break the training down so I know what the milestones are (ie I have to be able to ride 20 miles by end of January, I have to be able to hike 5 miles by end of february, I need to start handstands) so I stay on track. That is not actually a chore, just some enjoyable fiddling around with numbers tomorrow afternoon. It appeals to my OCD side.

The most interesting thing that happened to me in a hospital waiting room is that I met a guy who had gotten injured by a pissed off girlfriend who attacked him with a sword. He seemed mostly ok, but needed his hand stitched up.

That’s fantastic. I wonder what he did. And if the sword was mounted on the wall (here’s grandad’s old cavalry saber from the civil war) or if they were cosplayers and it was just laying about. So many questions

I'm gonna assume this one is for people who are *already* on acid before they even pick up the book

 

 

I"m tired today but I am heading into week two. It's very stormy here. I got up at 6 to get a head start on the day. 

 

I've already had my prescribed breakfast, and I'll have the house chores and be dressed like an adult (mas a menos) by nine am. I got the whole house clean at once over the weekend so I just have to keep up with it.

 

Today's adventure will be home-bound, as I'm not comfortable leaving BF for extended periods of time. Yesterday one of his friends came to visit and brought some pasta and sauce, which was nice. 

 

Will I: 

 

grind steadily through my to-do list, defeating the powers of darkness and lethargy, and then go to the gym?

 

OR

 

shop online for shoes I don't need and pretend I am "researching" endurance training, while eating marshmallow fluff out of a jar with a plastic spork?
