DJtrippyT
Today I am tired. I had exactly zero downtime this weekend and I didn’t get my house clean either, so everything is messy and aggravating my OCD. Weighing food and eating programmed breakfasts and making a to-do list (that seems laden with carry-over from last week’s failures) seems like this tremendous struggle today. I did get a hike in this weekend with a girl from my hiking group. I had never met her before and I was nervous about it but we had a good time, and she did not laugh at me when I slipped on a wet rock and landed on my ass. Which was nice of her. I tweaked my standard breakfast to include a little more lean protein this week. We’ll see how that goes. I am having that and coffee now. Hopefully it will give me some energy to do my stuff. Why is Monday so painful? 2 Quote the year of living trippily Final Boss, Part 2 Boss, Part 1 Previous: Adult Content Brain Weasels Choose Your Own Adventure Woman of Mystery - Worth it Simplicity Spoiler Take it Outside II Take it Outside Even More Current: 52 Days Currently Current: 100 Days Current: Queen 2: Electric Boogaloo Queen of the Jungle THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE CHALLENGE Apart six: Amazon (part 5) (part 3: The Wickening) (part 2) (part 1) Link to comment
DJtrippyT
One positive note: I tweaked my goal of saving $5 every day that I didn’t eat out toward my dive certification to just saving $5 every day no matter what, and I set up an online savings account that I can transfer money to with two clicks. Every day when I think of it I do the transfer, and I already have 10 percent of the cost saved. And it was painless - almost like a game. 4 Quote the year of living trippily Final Boss, Part 2 Boss, Part 1 Previous: Adult Content Brain Weasels Choose Your Own Adventure Woman of Mystery - Worth it Simplicity Spoiler Take it Outside II Take it Outside Even More Current: 52 Days Currently Current: 100 Days Current: Queen 2: Electric Boogaloo Queen of the Jungle THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE CHALLENGE Apart six: Amazon (part 5) (part 3: The Wickening) (part 2) (part 1) Link to comment
DJtrippyT
So, yeah, yesterday was... bad. - got up at 6:30, felt like a bucket of nails, plus I was sore from falling hiking on Sunday. Could NOT get the motor turning over. Ate my proper breakfast, was still hungry. - went to coffee shop to work because the house is a mess, got there and it was full of little kids. Mom's day out. Most of them left but two women with toddlers stayed and they were perfect hipster moms (right down to those eyeglasses they all wear) and their kids were running all over, shrieking and throwing toys, and I was trying to not be a dickhead because it is, after all, a public space, not a co-working facility, but jeeeeezus. One of the two women was bemoaning how she was realizing Her Life Was Over at 38, and it was all downhill from here, I wanted to strangle her. Honey, you have no idea. When they started facetiming a third person who was the graphic designer for their Instagram feed I packed my shit up and left. I was wearing headphones this whole time, btw. They were THAT loud. - I went to my *other* coffee shop because I thought it would be quieter, and they have those amazing cinnamon muffins, and I got there and it was packed and the internet was slow AND THE MUFFIN WAS STALE. At this point I should have realized my life has been over since I was 38 and gone back to bed, or gone to the gym and done a sledgehammer workout until I'd vented all the poison, but I did not. I can not describe how irrationally angry the stale muffin made me. I did not take it out on the kid running the register, as I am sure he was not responsible, and I am, nominally, an adult. - then, as I am sitting there mourning my underwhelming muffin substance, my boss from the adventure race thing calls me and is losing his mind because a race we have listed on a sign up website is down. I'm getting a little tired of this guy going from zero to sixty every time he calls me about something. Whatdidyoudodidyouchangeitwhyisitdownblahblahblah. Lighten up, Francis. I'll call the company, which is run by competent professionals, and figure it out. Which I did. It took six minutes. The problem was on their end. He didn't go for the full-time thing, BTW. I'm kind of relieved. I'm not sure I could take it. After all that I threw in the towel and went home and tried to work on the patio, then moved inside because the sun was in my eyes. That's right our very solar system was working against me yesterday. The cats had a nice lounge on the patio, though. Then I hung out with the Mantis briefly, which was fun. I told him about my round-the-world trip idea, but told him I thought I'd rather do like a month of travel a year rather than wait five years to save up and travel for an entire year; we both agreed that at our age, we might be drooling vegetables in five years, so better to strike while the iron is hot. Life ends at 38, after all. THEN, because the universe was NOT DONE trying me, I went home and my boyfriend was home and I warmed up some of the leftover pizza that we had during the superbowl (that HE bought, not me) and I put some salt on it and he jumped all over me and started giving me shit about "that's too much salt, what are you doing you eat so bad" and my last nerve was grated into oblivion and I threw the whole thing, including the plate, into the garbage. Then we had a low-key argument where he defended his constant, asshole controlling behavior as "concern for my health" and I pointed out that he was still an asshole and I was tired of that bullshit, and then we went to bed, which is where I clearly should have stayed at 6:30 when the alarm went off. Today will be better. I feel certain of this.

DJtrippyT
Checking in. Tuesday, as I had hoped, was vastly better than Monday, and I had no desire to murder anyone with a rusty hatchet. - ate proper breakfast - went to gym and did workout "sucker punch" which feels exactly how you would expect a workout with that name to feel. - no one yelled at me Wednesday I thought it would be best for everyone if I took a mental health day, so I didn't do any work, just read a lot and tried to catch up on domestic rangering and errands. Got the errands, not the rangering. It's rainy and gross here so I wanted to make pasta marinara for dinner, but got home and boyfriend was already cooking pasta alfredo, so he had that and I had leftovers; grilled shrimp, artichoke hearts, quinoa salad. I'll make my pasta today. I was supposed to ride my bike yesterday but skipped it. Today, Thursday, I woke up consumed with dread about the day, but it's actually been pretty good. I got up at 6 and I've gotten a lot done and I will go to the gym at 4PM. I think I need to find a way to divorce my feeling of success about my day with how much work I accomplish; it makes me really stressed out on days I don't really need to be. I'm never going to get "everything" done so that needs to not effect my mental state so much. It makes me eat. ummmm think that's it for now. I'm hoping to slam dunk the rest of the domestic rangering tonight so I can chill over the weekend.
DJtrippyT
Today was a good day. I had an easy day at work and I did some personal improvement stuff, so I felt accomplished. I did not fitness, however. I got all the domestic rangering done, so I won't have to do that this weekend, which is making me do the dance of joy. I'm going to wrap up my challenge so I can catch up with everyone else's over the weekend. I found this challenge theme very entertaining, and I will miss it. I have two big fitness goals for the year, which were my Choose Your Own Adventure race in August (my self-created bike/hike/kayak fest) and to get my diving certification, which I wanted to do last year and chickened out. So part of this challenge was to lay out the training for race, and to start saving a small amount every day towards the certification, so it wouldn't be so painful come trip time. I succeeded in both of those goals quite nicely! GO ME! I also broke my gnarly twitter habit, and caught my relapse into fast food before it got too dire, so I'm very pleased with that as well. I tried to develop some new habits. This is a little more squiffly, as I got my breakfast habit established nicely, but my lunch habit failed to take root. spoiler for boring science I have been doing all this reading on habits and how we form them and break them, what "cues" and "triggers" are, and I think I know why my "nutritious lunch from home" problem is so intractable. It's not just that I have the lazy habit of going out without thinking about it; it's that my lunches answer a complex set of social/emotional problems for me. When I go out to lunch, it's sometimes the only time I get away from my desk all day (I work through lunch quite often), it's the only time I see other people some days (the curse of working from home, which is otherwise fabulous) and it's the only meal I don't have to make and clean up after. I could solve the "get out of the house" trigger by taking lunch to a park, but right now it's largely cold and grisly, so that's less appealing than if I were currently lounging on Sloth Island. Breakfast, on the other hand, took hold easily because it has positive cues; I don't give a shit about breakfast, frankly, since I'm barely conscious in the morning, and having a pre-made, pre-set breakfast means I don't have dishes afterward and I don't have use my limited brainwaves to think about it. I also started flossing my teeth, but that wasn't really involved in the challenge. Still, a positive! I started riding my bike again, though not as much as I wanted, but that was largely due to weather. I still have to find some new places to ride. I'm averaging 4,000 steps a day, which is a little below my target. And I'm back to training in the gym consistently(ish). I think the best thing about the challenge was that even though I had a lot of rough spots (boyfriend's brain exploding, had a cold, work was weird) I still kept my new habits on track, and everything didn't go flying out the window like it usually does. That is pretty amazing. It's probably because I just worked on one habit (mostly) at a time. I leave you with this inspirational story about my new velour gym bag.
