jcmgm first of the decade

Ok. New month, new challenge, new year and new decade.

Body

  • Walk.
    • Every day. 30'
  • Run, run, run.
    • Once a week I'll go sprinting. Most likely hill sprints to make it easier on my knees. (Having run two 10k I know long ones make me bored so, fast and hard). Preferably, on Saturday.
  • Weight
    • Ktb workout 3 times per week.

Mind

  • Journaling
    • Write on my journal everyday

Soul

  • Art/music
    • I want to get back to draw and play music every day, so I'll be drawing or playing the piano. Trying to get back used to read sheets... so hard.
  • Meditate/Respiration
    • Every day, at least 5 minutes, in connection with my breath, and myself

Other projects

Home

  • Declutter all the home
    • I have postponed it so many times that I've got many things waiting to be discarded, given away or sent for repair.

(I'm going to the south this Friday so I'll keep in mind the hiatus, it'll be a trekking journey to El Chaltén so lots of walking are assured)

Oh, don't you worry. There'll be pleeenty! oh valley o' plentyyy

For now, I'm leaving one of my best discoveries last year, an Italian band that I've come to love. Due to their music, and due to their name, 'cause, well, you know, I work with penguins :D

I've started this new year with some "goals". Actually, I'm building back some habits that I've lost.

  1. Get back to workout consistently. Lift heavy 3x week, run 1x week
  2. Develop my own daily yoga routine (saddhana)
  3. Continue to eat veggies everyday (and have some meatless days everyweek)
  4. Run a 10k.
  5.  Start writing posts for my blog (don't worry about perfection, just put them up there)
  6. Have my own - and personal - photography exhibition
  7. Read 24 books (23 remaining) (1 x 2week)
  8.  Watch 52 movies, mindfully. (With all the binge-watching I haven't paid attention to many things I've been watching)
  9. Measure 20 penguins
  10. Write my 18 months PhD review
  11. Start writing my first paper
  12. Play piano and learn to read a piano sheet
  13. Start looking for my own apartment

Okay, I need to unpack this:

1. That Italian song was SO HAPPY. I have no idea what they were saying but the music is delightful.

2. Having "measure 20 penguins" as one of your goals makes me immensely happy.

3. Also, the breadth of your goals (physical, mental, skills, emotional) also makes me happy.

Good thinking!! How's your week been?

Wow J... those goals are wonderful...

Can you tell me more about the yoga goal?! xx

Thanks Sally! It's part of my yoga training, we develop our own yoga routine. Could be some asanas, some flow, meditation. I'm trying to make some pranayamas (breathing exercises), asanas (physical postures) and yoganidra plus samyama (relaxation and meditation).

Oh Thanks! It has been a nice week. Relaxed. Going almost every day to the beach makes it that way! Here we're in full summer mood. Days above 25º, sunny days, windy days. And for me summer means beach, beach means waves. So I've been going to the water to do some bodyboarding, maybe one day I'll take the leap and start surfing, but I don't want to learn when beaches are full and accidents are prone to happen.
Yeah! I want to advance with the recollection of data this year, so I'll try to get many penguins measured (They go into a chamber where the air Oxygen is being analyzed, the drop in O2 content is then transform, considering the diet, into calories/joules and their energy expenditure or metabolic rate). No penguin is harmed during the study

oh it's a very nice song. Here's a pretty good translation https://lyricstranslate.com/en/tetris-tetris.html

I work with the Magellanic one... I think that genre is called the banded penguins...there're 4 species and they look strikingly similar (like well... all penguins duh haha)

ok ! quick update after landing and travelling from Buenos Aires to my city.

6 days in El Chaltén = 120 km walked in hills and mountain
4 days in Calafate= 20 km walked in flat city
plus a minitrekking over the Perito Moreno Glacier

Without taking into consideration how I hurted my right knee and got a toe full of blisters (not being ready for such a trek, plus not walking with the proper care and techinique), I love trekking. I want more, more moutains, hills, rivers and lakes. Going up and going down. Walking through rocks and forests, breathing the whole clear sky.
Next time I won't be staying on the town but rather camping. We did all day treks and some where brutal... more than 20 km going up and down.
Plus, as i want to get some elusive animals in photograph and get a nice starry sky... being in the mountains will be better for that

Don't worry, there're more where that came from.
Ok, recapping. Haven't touched the KTB or sprinted, but walking has been cleared waaay over.
I've been playing piano for some time, trying to get Mr Blue Sky.

I've been lacking with my meditation routine.

This day we started walking under the sun, among trees in shirt. It wasn't the warmest day of summer but the climb the sun and the lack of wind were enough to make us sweat.
Then the clouds came rolling in, and after hiking the last 1km, climbing rapidly 400m, the rain had transformed into snow.

Well, Saturday progress!
I've been walking 2 days this week, done a KTB and bodyweight workout and played a soccer match yesterday. So far, so good. No new pain has arised, my pubalgia and my knee don't seem to be bothering at all. Seem to be tired but I expected so much.

Journaling has become almost second nature. I miss some days, every now and then, but when I do, I feel it. No matter what I write, or the moment of the day. Maybe one topic, sometimes many. I also wrote a short story... but writing has been good.
Music and drawing are still pending. I sit at the piano and play some bit but I'd like to have a more... disciplined approach. I'll set a piano "workout". To practice scales or something before playing a song. And to try to read a piano sheet.
Drawing... the same. I'd love to become a scientific illustrator. I really love that kind of art, so I'll get into the research of that.

Decluttering, has been going well. Still so long to go. Living with my mother and sister means that there're many variables outside my power. When I organize something... then they come to let it go into chaos again xD
Going to live alone would solve a bit of that... but in this economy? ha, it's really hard nowadays with a scholarship
