Spezzy Aims to Even Lift a Polar Bear

Hallo Hallo nerds!

It is 2020 and I am excited :)

giphy.gif?cid=790b7611519c9c96c9d102816f

The last 2 years have been tough for me, on a very deep level. A lot of big things have happened, and what it's led to is really me focusing on putting everything and everyone else as a priority, and really just losing myself and what's important to me. I've figured out a LOT - but am still working on it (and understand I'll need to work on figuring out things forever - that's life!). I'm also still working on figuring out some of the health items, but really my stress needs to be at a minimal level in order to figure those out AND for anything to work moving forward, and in order for my stress to get down, I really think I need to focus on just being me again. I miss that person, a lot. And I think she's got a lot of the answers I'm looking for.

So big goal of this year is to really get back to me.  So this challenge is going to be a list of identity statements, and then how I plan to make that identity statement true :)

I AM A PERSON WHO LOVES TO LIFT AND HAS FUN WITH IT

I5KlkQk.png

As of right now, I'm planning on doing a meet at the end of February.  This may change because of important life stuff, but that's the plan right now

:)

Based off of this site: https://whatanimaldoyoulift.herokuapp.com/, my goals are to:

Squat a Sloth Bear

Bench Press a Male Giant Panda

Deadlift a Polar Bear

Total a Mature Male Moose

Since deadlift messes with my hip the least, I'm making my big goal the polar bear.

SPECIFIC GOALS HERE:

1) Strength 4x a week, following 80% of the program (I need to update this in the next few days, but I'm deloading till mid week anyway so I have time).
2) Rehab and stretching movements daily

I AM A PERSON WHO DOES NOT STRESS ABOUT FOOD AND ENJOYS COOKING

giphy.gif

1) Meal prep 2x each week

2) Set timers on my calendar to remind myself to eat (I get hypoglycemic, so this is extremely important)

3) Make a new recipe every week

I AM A PERSON WHO TAKES CARE OF HERSELF

giphy.gif

1) Journal each day for at least 3 minutes

2) Meditate at least 3 minutes each day

3) Piano or singing at least 10 minutes a day

4) Read in bed instead of playing games on my phone

5) This one is more procedural - but set up / find doctor's appointments, hair appointments, massage appointments, etc - and prioritize fitting these onto my calendar. I know some of these sound frivolous, but I tend to get my hair done once a year because it just never is a priority over everything else. Making time for myself is important.

Also I suspect 1-4 will end up my new nightly routine, so while it sounds like a lot, it's really 30-40 minutes before bed.

I AM A PERSON WHO IS CONSTANTLY EVOLVING

giphy.gif

1) I'm working on some new certifications, so at least an hour a week on those. I know this doesn't seem like a lot, but along wit everything else, I want to make sure I'm setting myself up for success

I AM A PERSON WHO HAS THE PERFECT PUPPER

Many of you know that my old dog, Madi, went to live with my Mom last September. It was heartbreaking, but the best situation for everyone, especially Madi. Madi is super happy where she's living now, and doing wonderfully, and loves my Mom very much.

It seems soon, but in December, I got a new puppy - Felix. He's now 18 weeks old and is already the perfect pupper :) . Since he's so young, we're focusing on the basic puppy stuff - so nothing crazy right now, but training can't take a back seat.

Here is a picture of me and him SEE HE IS PERFECT and the goodest boy ever.

But really:

1) Go to class every week.

2) At least 2 5-10 minute training sessions each day

3) At least 3 15 minute walks every day (this also ties into the "I am a person who takes care of herself" goal). If it's raining, we don't have to go on long walks, but we should go on a field trip to a store instead.

THAT'S IT. It is a lot. But I am worth it and I can do it. I'm likely going to have to add in a goal of setting my calendar for the next day the night before, and maybe each sunday to fit everything in - but going to start here and see where it takes me :)

I love the concept of this challenge. It basically takes the idea of "stop waiting for inspiration and just do it" to a higher level. Decide who I want to be, and then act as if I already am that person? I like it!

This challenge is filled with awesome! I totally empathise with the feeling of losing yourself and wanting to get her back. I hope you have fun with all your quests and get some results without stressing about them.

Also, POLAR BEAR! I am admiring your lifting prowess so much right now. Excellent.

If it was only a REAL polar bear, then it'd be super impressive haha

Hopefully at the end this will not be me:

Real animals tend to wriggle too much. And can you really focus on form when the world's largest land predator is trying to bite your grip? IDK... maybe chalk would help.

You'll be okay! Polar bear falls down, polar bear gets up.

Okay! Quick update here.

Monday and Tuesday were off from the gym. Tuesday it snowed here, our first snowfall, and I wasn't able to get in a long walk, but I did do 4 10-15 minute walks, and am counting that because it was cold and snowy and I don't have good walking boots. :)

Today's workout:

Bench - 92.5kgx1, 90kgx3, 72.5kgx3, 75kgx3, 80kgx3 for 3 sets

A bunch of power clean drills - here are some of them:

Strict Toes to bar - 6x6

Enjoy the snow. We've barely even seen freezing temps back here in Texas.

I've been thankful the snow here isn't TOO bad - this was 2-3 inches and it's mostly gone today, which is fine. I didn't need to shovel, just chose to skip the gym on the snow day (it was a rest day anyway) and by yesterday, enough was melted I just needed to quickly sweep my windshield. Way easier than New England snowstorms!

I'll come visit only if I can trade you my clean numbers for your bench numbers. :D

I do need to plan out my nerd visits this year. I've been kind of a hermit the last...oh.....5 years or so.
