On a positive note, this gives me about 1.5 guilt free hours after I shower and dress before the kids wake up to play video games or do other activities EVERY DAY. I think I'm almost finished TItanfall 2. Next, I either go back and finish Valkyria Chronicles, where I love the battle system but actively dislike the characters and storytelling, or start in with Divinity Original Sin 2, which I hear is wonderful. I believe I also have Bloodborne sitting there waiting for me as well. Looking for opinions on a path forward here. Anything should be on the table with this new time availability as the FF7 sin't due until April.

Seconded. Fear the Old Blood.

Then Divinity 2 since you have it. It's solid.

And after FFVII in April you have The Last of Us Part 2 in May.

I'm well aware, I scheduled my vasectomy for the Wednesday before, and that's only because the doctor doesn't operate on Thursdays.

Bloodborne is that good huh?

It is if you liked the Dark Souls games. Oversimplified, it is the Soulsgame concept of gameplay, with a new setting and some interesting changes to the combat mechanics. To give you an idea... Bloodborne launched without a single shield in the game.

Persona 5 Royale is also due in April, if I remember right.

Oh yeah. I've played and beaten it a dozen or so time by now? Also, it's got a co-op mode which was great. I don't know if the online side is as active but having people invade your game or helping others keeps it from getting boring.

I've never played any of them. Due to having young kids, my last 5 years of gaming experience are basically The Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn, No Man's Sky, Witcher 3, Valkyria Chronicles, and Titanfall 2, with a spattering of PSVR games. I THINK that's all, will have to check when I get home.

Ooo. You are in for a rough time. It's a great game because the combat is perfectly balanced, not too cheap and supremely rewarding when you get it right. And the lore is not force fed to you but discovered at your own pace.

Also because of moments like this:

Tried it tonight for 2 hours. Pretty sure I hate the combat and complete lack of save mechanics. Feel like I’m wandering aimlessly with no story.

Edit: I watch a walkthrough video of the hunters dream and I missed a good bit, and chose the most pain in the ass weapon (axe). Going to give it another go tomorrow morning.

Sounds like you are experiencing the game as intended. It was a shock to Dark Souls players at first when we couldn't use a shield. But after a while (hopefully) the timing clicks and shooting/dodging become second nature. Using the pistol to aggro enemies one at a time is also very helpful. It's always better to hit twice and then dance back. That third strike has a slower animation which can lead you to getting mobbed.

Which weapon are you going for this time? Saw cleaver is probably the fastest. The Threaded Cane is fun but I feel it is better saved for later, once you get the mechanics down.

I now wanna play this game again.

Yep, going to go with the saw cleaver. I feel like I’ll enjoy the combat much more when I can dance in and hit more quickly. The slow weapon attack and just getting nailed when trying to swing was the biggest problem.

The wandering aimlessly was because I hit pretty much every side part of the level without finding the main points. I do hope the story/plot gets stronger, even if I have to search for it. I get bored of games without a good story and character/world investment, didn’t like Bastion as much as everyone else because of it for example.

All the Soulsborne games have deep world investment and story, but you have to search for every part of them. Hardly anything will be spoon fed to you.

Sekiro took a completely different approach and has a very linear story that is presented in a more traditional way.

I haven’t bailed out on here, my work computer bricked and formatting is a pain from my phone. I’ll update tomorrow challenge wise.

Gamewise, I enjoyed it a lot more with the saw weapon and group to the dual wolves the other morning before accidentally pulling both. Tried to keep fighting, but need to learn to be conservative and bail and come back vs fighting in those situations. Giving it a break for now and started Divinity Orginal Sin Enhanced because I apparently bought that instead of II on accident. Planning to bounce between the two.

Also curious how you're liking Divinity, since I was forced to stop playing it due to hardware fails. I liked it, but didn't get very far into it, so I'm now curious what you think of it. We seem to have similar tastes in games.

I liked Divinity as well, though I never finished it. Not sure why? I just got distracted. Then my brother wanted to play it with me, but he wasn't willing to put serious time in so we never got past the intro where you wander around figuring out the plot and generally being powerless. Shaking my head. Does he even game?

I only just got through the tutorial dungeon, but the combat interactions are incredibly intriguing. Different spells interact with one another, such as dropping a meteor then setting the oil patch it leaves on fire when you hit it or an enemy on it with a fire spell. You can also ignite poison clouds, or electrify steam. I haven’t gotten deep into it, have managed to wipe my party on accident a few times while experimenting, but it’s been great fun. Really looking forward to seeing all the different interactions.

The combat itself is all the goodness of a tactical system that unlike. Moving and actions both take up AP, you choose how, and spacing is super important due to the aoe interactions.

Only scratching the story and quest system, but it seems very classical DnDish, which I typically enjoy immensely despite the lack of originality.

I think this was my favorite part of the combat system. I't snot unique, other games have done it before, but the way Divinity does it made it more fun. I recall developing a mild addiction to the combination of poison clouds and fire arrows.... Now I want to play this again. :)

My absolute favourite is the air spell that lets you pick things up and drop them. Best move: pick up enemy and drop them into something awful. So satisfying. Wish I could do it in real life.

I decided to jump back in to the game since you mentioned it. And oh yeah, very DnD-ish. Baddies were taking acts of opportunity on my rogue I was trying to flee. Forgot how to play this game, and I was severely lacking in status affect arrows for the fights.

Also, this came across my comics feeds. Made me think of you:

I survived my first boss fight doing exactly this, teleporting the boss to the far side of a burning oil patch to buy time to heal up.

That comic hits home way too hard. Kids have been waking up a few minutes earlier each day due to the sun and cutting into my time. I’ve started getting them ready then letting them watch tv for 20 min while I finish up.

I LOVED DIVINITY. I went hogwild on it.

I’m finally doing some quests and leveling. The stun mechanics currently seem abusive at times, then I remember I’m usually outnumbered 2 to 1.

I’m currently rolling with the base two characters, the demon hunter mage, and just swapped out the thief guy for the older chick with the two handed sword. I’m hoping to get someone with a sword and shield at some point, my D&D roots really want me to have a true tank.

Anyway, giant update incoming challenge wise. I’m tired of waiting for work computer to get fixed, just gonna do it from my phone. Gonna take me a bit.
