Terah - Ultimate Gamification

Terah

Recommended Posts

I'm back (again). Things got a bit crazy the last couple of months, and I had to take time for myself. Do some soul searching and such.

But yeah, I really missed this place.

For the people that don't know me: I'm Terah*. A 35 year old from the Netherlands. Fitness enthousiast, dance fanatic, and I love playing sims :D

10-2-20-9-54-49.png

I'm married to William, also 35 years old

10-2-20-9-38-23-2.png

And we have two awesome sons: Peter (9) and Cory(7)

Naamloos.png

We live in a small city in the Netherlands. We bought a new home two years ago and are loving the new environment.

10-2-20-10-16-31.png

(It's actually in the middle of a row of similar homes, but that was a bit hard to copy in the sims)

Mental health update

Early December I came across a youtube video were someone talked about the differences between men and women on the autistic spectrum. And with every characteristic she described in females I thought "that's me". So naturally I asked doctor google, did a few online tests, watched some more youtube video's and now I suspect that I am on the spectrum. It explains so much: why I don't like being touched, why I have trouble making eye contact, why I'm often weird in conversations, why I can't follow a group conversation, why everyday tasks sometimes seem insurmountable. I don't know if I want an official diagnoses. I want to try to make sense of it on my own first.

And on top of that: a few weeks ago the child psychologist that runs the Social Skill class Peter visits told me she suspected him of having autism. Which didn't came as a surprise after everything I read about it. She still needs to test him to make sure though.

No more dancing classes :(

My boys have started official swimming lessons. I had tought them all I could, and I thought it would be a good idea to let a professional take over. It's twice a week and they love it :)

But then, at the end of Christmas break my dance teacher announced a change in schedule. The dance classes I took were transferred to Mondays and Thursdays. The same days as the boys swimming lessons. I thought: I'll try to make it. Which ment: Go to swim class at 16:15, be home at 18:30. Change clothes and hop on my bike again to make the class at 19:00, which ended at 20:45. So I'd be back at home at 21:15. I tried it for a month before I gave up, it was just too much. So I paused my subscription to the dance classes. I'll be back once the swimming lessons are over, probably October :)

The challenge

This challenge I'm going to gamify my fitness. Just to make it a little more interesting :D

I bought Ringfit for the Switch a month ago and I'm loving it! Fighting monsters doing squats is totally my thing.

Also I'll use the Bodybuilding aspiration from the Sims 4 as my goals.

Naamloos.png

I realize this is in Dutch, so here is the translation:

1) Basic trainer

    Train for 8 hours

    Train at a gym

2) Training devil

3) Fit with an F

4) Bodybuilder

So my first goals are to train for 8 hours and to train at a gym. Since I don't want to pay to train at a gym once, I'll see this as doing something different. Like following a YouTube workout or something.

10-2-20-14-25-06.png

(Yes, I totally put the tv on the coffeetable to workout. IRL I just move the coffee table ;) )

*All names have been changed to protect our secret identity. As all superheroes have ;)

So are we gonna just ignore that there are handcuffs in this picture with the only word in Dutch that couldn't be further from an English cognate? What kind of stuff do your SIMS get up to?

Also, following.

LOL That means "divergent" and it is for sims that want to be criminals or pranksters :D (I also have a mod installed for mermaids that want to be sirens)

I LURVE THE SIMS! I just treated myself to a new bundle over the weekend with university, realm of magic and tiny homes (which is my favorite so far!)

Re: spectrum. I think the strides we've seen in recent years about de-stigmatizing non neurotypical individuals is pretty wonderful and amazing. I hope the discoveries you're making about yourself is useful in informing you of the most comfortable ways to move through life!

I also really want to try the ring fit, it looks super fun. Just need to upgrade to the wiiu one of these days first lol!

I did a few online tests too, and even spoke to a doctor about it. I'm probably somewhere on the Asperger's spectrum. Couldn't decide if I wanted an official diagnosis or not. Kind of wanted, kind of didn't... So I let it just slide and now I couldn't care less. So my suggestion would be to wait. Just like you're doing :)

Most gyms will let you try it out for free for a couple of times before you have to pay anything.

Tiny homes is definitely one of the better packs! I do like the magic one, but it's a bit too easy. Gathering ingredients for potions can be a challenge, but spells have almost the same effect and don't require anything. Vampires is a fun one too if you like occult sims :D

Our 10 year old wii decided to stop working so we "had to" buy the switch (according to my husban). It hasn't disapointed so far

Thank you! And I agree from what I've bee  reading. The focus is a lot more on what you can do instead of what you can't.

Thanks for the advise.

Personally I don't know what a therapist could do for me. There is no cure and the standard treatment starts with a social skills course, which i already took when I was 12. So yeah, I'll wait and learn about it myself.

Monday

The boys had the day off school. My mom came by, asking me to make some curtains out of fabric she'd bought. While I was working on that the boys came to realize grandma wasn't that good at playing video games

10-2-20-20-19-12-2.png

I made her curtains and played a table top game with them so grandma would feel a bit better ;)

At the end of the day the boys had their swimming lesson

And I could browse the NF forums a bit more

I'm starting to get curious any the ring for the switch. I love DDR and Dance Central on the Xbox360 🤣 it's been too long since I've cracked it out

Thanks :D

Ringfit is an addictive way to get your exersise in. My husband didn't like it though. He tried the first level and didn't squat deep and long  enough, so the game tried to correct him (in a friendly way) and his conclusion was that the game was faulty :D

I don't know dance central, but I do love just dance

Tuesday

I decided to add a lifegoal: whizzkid

whizzkid.png.

Translation:

1) One with the program

  Practice programming for 5 hours

Play 5 hours of video games

2) Technically grounded(?)

3) Computer nerd

4) Whizzkid

I want to learn Python. I finally got through a basic training video and now I'm practicing it by solving Euler problems. I did the first two problems already today! I had a bit of help from my husband, who knows some Python.

Today I cleaned the 1st floor of the house

11-2-20-10-39-14.png

Played sims and practiced programming

11-2-20-10-35-33.png  11-2-20-11-38-55.png

Progress :D

Voortgang.png

Peter had to go to social skill class. And since it's to far away to drive back home while he's there, Cory and I wait there for an hour. I brought the Switch so Cory could play mario party and I watched some YouTube

11-2-20-19-37-18.png

When we got home I cooked dinner, which we ate together

11-2-20-19-55-14.png

And then I put the boys to bed

11-2-20-20-20-44.png 11-2-20-20-22-32.png 11-2-20-20-23-57.png

Now it's time for some ringfit!

11-2-20-19-56-44.png

I also made an appointment at a local gym for next Thursday, so I will get the "workout in a gym" done! I think it's an old ladies gym from the looks of it, but it's the closest one I could find :D

What app or so do you use for your goals? It looks great!

Re ASD: about 5-6 years ago, I also struggled with the decision on whether to get diagnosed or not (woman in NL). In the end, I decided to go for it, mainly because then I would have access to specialised healthcare. I'm glad I did it, since the GGZ I'm now in is really good, and I learned a lot of coping mechanisms. There is still a lot of disbelief about me having autism, since to the outside world I'm just a normal (female) nerd. Most people don't see my todo-lists, fixed structure at home, and occasional exhaustion due to too much input. I don't hide that I have ASD, but I'm also not very outgoing with it due to all the prejudice going around. If you're looking for information, I found that at least 5 years ago, I recognised myself much more in Dutch websites and books than American websites and books.

While there is no cure, there're coping mechanisms and knowing your strengths and weaknesses, so that you can e.g. split the household tasks with your partner accordingly. I haven't read your previous threads, but if you have a good handle on your current life, there's no reason to get diagnosed or therapy.

Re programming: if you at some point find that project Euler starts to have too much maths, there's also fun puzzles on checkio.org and adventofcode.com (I LOVE advent of code. It's great.).

Wednesday

My husband had saved up so many extra hours last year that he can take every Wednesday off this year AND have plenty of vacation days left to actually go on vacation. So he was home today and tried to help me solve a Euler problem.

But first, I had to clean the rest of the house

13-2-20-8-45-41.png

Then I made coffee :D

13-2-20-10-02-32.png

And we went at it. Programming I mean. Because couples that program together, stay together, right?

13-2-20-10-04-35.png

I got really frustrated that I couldn't figure it out, even with William's help. But luckily I got to drive the boys to their gym practice

13-2-20-10-17-39.png

Afterwards I was drained, so I played some sims while the boys played with their lego's

13-2-20-10-07-47.png

This is actually a pretty accurate presentation on how they play. Peter reads the instructions and Cory just starts building :D

Then it was time for bath and bed for the boys

13-2-20-10-21-36.png 13-2-20-10-22-13.png

And I spent the evening playing the sims

13-2-20-10-05-37.png

Results until now:

whizzkid.png

(5 hours of gaming complete, 3/5 hours of programming complete)
