Chesire finished the training level....

Now it's time to work on level 1.

This is just to hold my place while I work out the details for this challenge.  The root of it is that I finally have an actual plan for fitness and food that I like, and I feel I have all the necessary baseline stability and strength to begin my path to a pull up and handstand.  And all the things.

Off to make a plan

Current Challenge: Developing Roots

This is the 10 year anniversary, huh?  Well, this is my 10th challenge anniversary, so I'm going to deep dive to May 2019 for a review of where I started.  🤣  Or, if I were really official I'd look to my sign up date, but I feel I really started being organized and having *gasp* real goals when I started challenges.

Actually, thinking things over, I've made great progress.  Most of it is mental; especially accepting who I am, what I can't or won't do as well as what I can, and learning to work with me.   I now have goals physically and they have to do with ability, not appearance.  I have goals at all!  Beyond "get stronger and lose weight."  This is the first time my fitness has involved working toward something specific, and I got here by putting down the weights.  i can't define how, but NF somehow led me to calisthenics, which led me online sources that work for me.  It feels so weird to have a plan.

Loving how this has worked out for me so far and can't wait to see where it takes me.  So glad I found this wonderful place full of awesome nerds to help along the way.

Edit: apparently I can't read my own handwriting.  My anniversary occurs during this challenge not May

Now for the plan to level up from level 1 fitness, since that is what I'm basing my leveling on.

I'm defining fitness level progression by my ability to move through the training plan I've settled on.  Given that, I need to work on core strength and back/pull strength.  So that is where I will be pushing for this challenge, while maintaining the other things that are going well.

Nutrition level will involve working in a little more protein is a way that doesn't involve excess meat consumption.  Thanks to awesome nerds I have realistic plan that I understand.  Second focus is iron consumption for energy and focus.  I'm almost satisfied with my habits on this one.

Life level is going to be tough.  i haven't had a garden that I was satisfied with in ages, so back to the drawing board.  I really need to get a properly fitted, or really close to it mock-up of a dress done by the end of the challenge, so I don't stress making the proper one before wedding in May.

Fitness-

  • do the plan as prescribed 3x week -Sat/Mon/Thus
  • mobility, stretch, foam rolling 3x week- Sun/Tues/Wed
  • Fri recovery day

Nutrition-

  • protein and iron intake monitored
  • 2 L water daily
  • don't worry excessively about calories, but keep an eye on it for further understanding of nutrition and energy.  It seems by focusing on previous points my hunger and calorie levels balance pretty well.  But keep an eye anyway
  • continue the search for delicious mocktails.  Recent discovery is shrubs, work with that.

Life-

  • finished sweater (for bonus points)
  • 1/2 way blanket
  • mockup dress that fits
  • ***garden plan***    specifically; what to plant?  which style and planner? build raised beds, or get the things for it.  start what needs to be started indoors

Extra fun!

  • vacation week during which I take ski lessons.  If anyone wants to watch a 40something slide down a mountain on her butt, this might be the time.

Eep.  I was asked to be matron of honor for my brother's wedding.  Do not like being watched.  Ack!  Of course I said yes.  I can do this.  breathe.

Deep breath, you got this! And congrats, that's awesome. :)

One of the best things that I've taken from NF is balance in all things.  Obviously I'm making my on dress for the wedding, cuz stress is fun, right.  But! I realized I'm down enough inches to be down a dress size, whilst and at the same time as putting many, many hours into Borderlands this month.  Food and exercise for the balance win!

I had intended to spend more time in the forums, getting to know people, but that isn't going as planned.  Both a win and a not-win because I'm putting more time into real world things.  Must be the return of the sun.

Check in time.

Fitness-

  • do the plan as prescribed 3x week -Sat/Mon/Thus-  ✔️all the days so far.  Love that is Wednesday and I'm "done" for the week
  • mobility, stretch, foam rolling 3x week- Sun/Tues/Wed- ✔️mostly, need a better set routine
  • Fri recovery day✔️

Nutrition-

  • protein and iron intake monitored- ✔️ need a loose plan to follow on the weekends
  • 2 L water daily-✔️  need more weekend attention
  • don't worry excessively about calories, but keep an eye on it for further understanding of nutrition and energy.  It seems by focusing on previous points my hunger and calorie levels balance pretty well.  But keep an eye anyway ✔️  so far, so good
  • continue the search for delicious mocktails.  Recent discovery is shrubs, work with that. ✔️

Life-

  • finished sweater (for bonus points)- hahah no
  • 1/2 way blanket ✔️progressing
  • mockup dress that fits - so many pretty fabric swatches arrived!  first trial run for fit hopefully in a day or two

Last week's fitness did not go as planned.  I couldn't face doing 3 strength days.  Everything was still tired and tight on the first day so -after checking in honestly on myself- I decided to respect it and reorganized the week.  Found some mobility plans, did them, stretching, and foam rolling.  And got a massage.  I think it was a good shift because I'm able again.

Had to make a few adjustments to my plan.  Firstly, I made a rookie planning mistake.  The blanket is a bridal shower gift.  Ya, I was planning my schedule based on the wedding not the shower.  Duh, they happen earlier and in this case it's the end of this month.  Revised goal is mostly finished by the end of this challenge.  Dress is basically moved to next challenge.

Vacation next week means time to build garden beds as long as we still don't have snow.  Which of course brings me to ...

Ski get away.  Um... hopefully the mountain has snow.  It's been ridiculously warm for this area.  Great for everything except skiing.

Ok. So.  This pandemic thing.  My vacation could not have come at a better time for anxiety maintenance.  Massage and social distancing are a tough balance.  It's not even so much my own health that concerns me, though believe me I do not want to battle this thing, it's being the point of spread for others that terrifies me.

I confess that my anxiety was running super high yesterday and I wanted to douse my whole house in bleach.  But I made rules for myself and worked through it.  Biggest areas of concern were kitchen, bathroom, doorknobs, phones, and such.  I allowed myself to address these concerns only if I also made it a proper spring cleaning which I wanted to do during this time off anyway.  Now I have a clean kitchen, bathroom, etc and anxiety is on the ebb.  Win-win!  Even under the stove drawer is clean!  And found the ring MrC was missing.

Now for a good day of garden beds, dog walking, video game/ movie marathon.

A new normal is settling in.  Can't work for a few weeks, possibly months.  We'll see.  Now is the time to return to good habits.

Check in time:

Fitness went haywire for vacation and life reasons.  That is returning today.  I have more time and less concern about being overtired at work so I can push things a bit for a while.  Woot!  and I had defintley felt the benefit of the mobility plan I found, so that def continues.

Nutrition had gone into vacation mode as planned and intended, but that changes today too.  I need good food and less alcohol to maintain an even keel.

Life stuff will get all kinds of attention now.  Garden is progressing.  The bridal shower probably won't happen now, but regardless, I will be done in time even if it's just 3 of us.  And I have to keep up with nutrition so that the fitting I've done for the MOH dress still works!  Plans still in line.

Someone on NFA suggested a quarantine quest list.  I may implement this, especially since I am now have nothing but time.  it will be interesting in later day, or possibly years, to see what I started and what I accomplished during this time.

First one is rework this bridal shower for very small group with facetime/livestream/whatever
