Teirin tries again

Super quick version as I have the minor plague (cold) and need to sleep.

1.  Kettlebell 3x per week starting week 1.  Week 0 will be stretching as I feel like shit.

2. Get treats under control.  No more than one small sweet thing per day. Articulate this better afterwards.

3.  Get shit done:

  • Podiatrist appt on March 16 to sort out my stupid feet
  • Plan garden plots with Mark
  • Get seedlings started by early march
  • Catch up on apartment cleaning
  • Implement changes rec'd by asthma specialist

The super brief update:  Feet still bad, stress is generally down, weight is up, money good, lungs better (for now), patience is somewhat shot though.

GARDEN PLOTS. Are you truly required to share?

I hear you on stretching. Which is why I need to get this table onto casters...

I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever.

Welcome back!  🤗

I'm glad to hear that your stress is down and your lungs are better. There is always something else to cope with. How are the kitties?

Thanks!   New asthma meds are possibly helping?  I think they are but it's my best time of year so it's a bit hard to tell.

Cally was diagnosed diabetic but we caught it so early that she was only on insulin for a month.  Now she's under diet control only and doing fine.  It's a bit funny though, because she used to hate her dry food and want more canned.  Now the old dried food is her "treats" and she cries for the few she's allowed to have.  Fickle furball.  I lost Trista while back due to a tumour in her head.  She is very much missed.

Week 0 so far:

Stretching - only a few times.

Treats - actually pretty good except for today.  Saturday is market day and there was a GF cinnamon roll and some 6 layer GF bars today.....  Honesty, if I have a bit more one day a week I'm not as fussed.

Getting shit done - Behind on getting asthma recs sorted.  I need to do a deep dust on the place when I can afford to not sleep that night.  Tomorrow should do nicely since Monday is a stat holiday.  I did get my desk at home sorted out and made some progress on my kitchen.  It's almost caught up.  Will sort the rest tomorrow as well, I think.

Today involved kitchen adventures.  I made a "beef" stirfy with beyond beef, mushrooms, onions, garlic, leeks and spinach (Sale for 0.99!).  It turned out quite well and should top up my iron over the next few days.

I also tried making this soup!  I had some pho broth so I swapped that in.  I didn't have the third root veg and made it with just celeriac and carrot.  It was good!

I really enjoy that channel, though not much of it fits my macros. Still, super cool recipes.

I like that channel too. It's so wholesome, and it scratches my historian's itch.

Also, super glad to hear that Cally's under diet management. That's so much easier than the alternative.

Hell yeah! I'm digging on the meat alternatives these days. Beyond Beef is good, although if you can get your hands on it I personally think that Lightlife's ground stuff is better - it doesn't try as hard to mimic the beef flavor, so it takes to spicing easier. I do some chili powder on that along with a finger of turmeric and a couple cloves of garlic and it's just... mmmm. Tasty.

Seems like everyone's sick with something about now. Here's hoping it passes quickly.

Yeah, it's been  everyone flat as far as I can tell.

Giving Cally insulin injections was Not Fun, everyone is happier with this.  She also has her beloved fish cat food back.  She was quite tired of the single flavour diabetic stuff.

I will see if Lightlife is safe and available here!  Thanks for the rec.

For today:

  • stretching happened.  Considered KB but got a bunch of chores done instead.
  • Too may treats also happened.
  • Deep dust happened, though I will probably be clearing out odd spots for another few days.  Hopefully this doesn't mess with sleep tonight but tomorrow is a day off.
  • Laundered the bedding (blankets and comforter).  It was about due but the cold ensured it.  I know I'm feeling better when I am suddenly aware of how much I have coughed or sneezed on *everything*.
  • More work on the kitchen.  It's almost there.

Rest of the evening will be anime and reading.  So many things to read...

For more fun, we did the Nier Automata crossover raid in FFXIV.  Check out the awesome score on the last boss fight (not my video):

I Got Shit Done today and I am pleased.

  • Stretching and a light kettlebell workout - 4 sets of 4 exercises with Kelley (20 lbs)*
  • 1.5 treats today.  Not a pass but not bad for a holiday.
  • Most of the remaining work on the kitchen is done.
  • Part of the bathroom and some general tidying and sorting of things.
  • Moisturizer for the guitar got watered
  • Batches of rice and lentils are cooked in the fridge (separate, oversight on my part)
  • Sent out Stardew Valley code to friends for our coop farm.

I am feeling the energy to do things more.  I really hope this is the new meds.  I would like this to continue.

* I am currently avoiding any exercise that involves moving or bending my foot.  TGUs are right out.  It seems ok so far?

10 squats

10 Halos

20 swings

10 ea rows

A treacherous internal voice wanted to finish up with burpees until I reminded it that burpees certainly ends in one or two bleeding feet right now.  Not happening.  Also, it's been long enough since i worked out regularly that this was probably enough.

I kinda like burpees *shrugs*  Also, I only have 2 modes:  sloth and EVERYTHING.  I've been in sloth for a few years now.  Glad to have you following *hugs*

So. No burpees for you.

But *after* my feet are fixed I'm considering an update on that year in burpees challenge.  2020 over 5 weeks is 58/day.  That's pretty doable.  Also anniversary appropriate, though my feet will probably not be fixed this challenge.

Yay for feeling energy and getting things done!

It's been a long time and I'm really happy about it.  Not starting days feeling drained is pretty awesome.

Today:

Stretching

The closest thing to a treat was a Daiya Duet non-dairy yogurt with crunchy seeds and chocolate chips.  Still sugary but a solid pass.

Kitchen is now sorted except the recycling!  That must wait until the ice sheet of death falls.  I am not spending any more time than I absolutely have to out there until that shit is gone.

The foot situation:  possibly gross in places

Spoiler

It occurs to me that I haven't really explained this.  I'm prone to infected ingrown toenails in general, though they've been a lot less of a problem since adulthood, and i damaged my feet a lot at Judo.  I've had paronychia 4 times now, the last of which was just over a year ago in both big toes.  I do not know what prompted that, as my feet had been fine for a number of years beforehand.  Anyway, it was a bad case and my toeneils warped and had to be cut back.  They grew more into my foot and then started growing back around the bone on one side.  Ever since, they have been growing badly.  Lost them both once and one side twice with a new nail shoving out the old.  They're still growing oddly widely and are perpetually trying to replace parts of my toes.  They're ok as long as I stay off them as much as possible.  When work is busy and I'm on my feet a lot, it gets worse.  Stubbing them lightly is painful, anything harder and my nails cut the toes and they bleed.  Hoping that a podiatrist can sort this shit out because it's pissing me off.  My snowshoes beckon and I probably won't get to use them again this year.

The asthma recs from the clinic:

Frequent dusting - reminder is set for twice/week

wash my curtains - next weekend

Wash bedding regularly - this generally happens but was due - sorted

Get a dust cover for my mattress and pillows

Try milder cleaners in my apartment

Try to discourage my cat from sleeping on the bed - iffy, and we do know that I am not allergic to cats

Keep windows closed during higher pollen times of year

Pick up and air purifier for my bedroom - not recommended but seems in theme.

Yeesh, the issues with your feet sound awful. Definitely one for the specialists.

My sympathy on the loss of Trista. Glad to hear that Cally is doing well on the special diet.

We should implement those asthma recommendations at our house. Elf has been coughing all the time. They keep the cats out of their room, but the rest of the house is full of fur and we rarely dust.

Kettlebell tonight.  A bit earlier this time.  I had planned on getting it as soon as i got home but a small kitty missed me and needed to snuggle on my shoulder for a good long while.  Who am I to say no to that?

Stretching

4 sets:

10 squats

10 Halos

20 swings

10 ea rows

Foam roller

Not much else the last few days.  Doing generally better on sweets.   Oh!  Mark and I have been garden plotting by email and visit.  We're planning on getting seedlings started next week or so.  We have most of the supplier we need but a few things need to be picked up.
