Shello's Resurrection: The Anniversary Special

I know. I said I wasn't going to do challenges anymore.  I guess I just couldn't resist the 10th anniversary hype.  And also @Tanktimus the Encourager's necromancy skills are on point!   So here I am, doing another challenge, the Anniversary Special. 

 

To celebrate the 10th anniversary everyone is getting all nostalgic.  This year will be my 6th nerdversary. So much has happened during my 6 years.  Like many of you, Nerd Fitness has changed my life.  I may not have reached my ultimate goals yet but I've learned a ton about building habits, perseverance, fitness, and myself.  I've gained a lot of friends, met a few nerds in person, received a lot of support and tried to support others.  During my journey so far I've lost a lot of weight, gained some of it back, lost again, maintained.  I've run my first 5K, started lifting, started sledgehammer workouts, and ran a HammerRace.  My journey here has also included going through a divorce and starting over.   I've started dating someone new and we are working on building a life together.

 

I have a goal to lose 20 in '20 and I'm not off to a great start.  I can't seem to stick to anything that used to work and I feel like I'm starting all over again.  The goals I started working on just before the holidays seemed to be a good starting point.  I've had trouble getting back to them since the new year so I figure I'll start over from there.  Since this is the 10th Anniversary Special my goals can earn me up to 10 daily points.  Since I've had so much trouble staying connected and posting regularly I will also earn a bonus point for posting daily.  

 

Goal 1: Intermittent Fasting

This seems to work well for me.  If I eat earlier than 14 hours it's never anything good anyway.  It keeps me from eating late and keeps me from snacking in the evening.  

3 points for fasting 14 hours

2 point for fasting 13 hours

1 point for fasting 12 hours

 

Goal 2: Eat Your Freggies

I don't really care about freggies but by trying to get 3 servings in and fasting for 14 hours it makes it more difficult to eat junk. 

3 points for 3 servings

2 points for 2 servings

1 point for 1 servings

 

Goal 3: Steps

I can be really lazy.  I'll try not to be.

3 points for 10,000 steps

2 points for 8,000 steps

1 point for 6,000 steps

Goal 4a: Workouts

Edit - Goal 4 will be a Pass/Fail goal to post every day.  I have been having trouble with this for the past year.  This is the habit I need to get back to.

I know I'll struggle with this one. I've found it very difficult to make time for this.  I haven't made it a priority.  Anything counts for this goal.

I had great success last challenge with my just start rule. If I did one rep of anything it counted for a full workout. Also I'm really glad you are back.

Week 1 Day 1 - Shello Posts an Update

It feels like such a long time sine I've been connected around here.  It's time to play catch up.  Yesterday barely counts for the challenge since I didn't post until evening.  I wasn't entirely sure what my goals would be during the day when I was actually making decisions.  I'm sure that matters little since today I know my goals and it hasn't made much of a difference - except I'm posting.  Two days in a row y'all!  Next step will be trying to catch up on some of your threads.  

 

This is the week my kids are at their dad's so it's just DDG and me. We usually leave for work at the same time but he had to up and out early.  Boo! I thought about using the opportunity to go into work early but that didn't work out.  I usually bring some chocolate milk to work to break my fast.  I made it 13 hours.  I thought I had a meeting at 9 and knew I would break my fast before it.  Since I couldn't make it to 14 hours I didn't put any effort into waiting.  Turns out my meeting was at 9:30 and I could have made it to 14.  Lunch was a chocolate Kodiak muffin in a cup, cheese and crackers, and some berries and grapes.  I counted the fruit as 2 servings.   I had a scout meeting in the evening and DDG spent the day with his son at a college visit.  So he didn't come over until after the meeting.  I had dinner on my own so I made a fake chicken sandwich with bacon and then threw some tater tots in the air fryer.   No freggies were consumed.  

 

I got 6500 steps and no workout happened.  Some housework did though.  DDG came over after the meeting.  He just kept me company while I posted my challenge and then we just sat on the couch and chatted until we were tired enough to head to bed, though sleep didn't happen for some time.

This is just a thought, but since this is a re-spawn of a sort, what if you set yourself up for a solid 100% and ignored the workout for now?  If it happens it happens, but don't downgrade yourself if it doesn't.  After you're built these other, more accessible, habits back up you can start hitting it hard in the gym again.

 

BTW I still recommend your "smack tire, run, KB swing run repeat" workout.

I was thinking once Spring arrives it might be a good time to take the sledgehammer for a walk to the local high school track and football field.  They have a big tire for training.  Walking a sledgehammer counts as rucking doesn't it?   I could get rucking and a sledgehammer workout in at the same time.  

 

I like your thought on the workouts.  I don't really expect workouts to happen, though I am following the 10th anniversary PVP thread.  I might glean something from that.  But I do have the bonus point for posting an update to still get 100%.

Week 1 Day 2 - Shello harms no freggies

I'm not really sure how it happened.  It wasn't planned.  All I ate yesterday was pizza, pizza, a cookie, and a soft pretzel.  Well, and the chocolate milk I had to break my fast.  I mean, it was glorious, mostly.  I regretted the pretzel.  I had the milk after fasting 14 hours.  I was lazy this week and didn't make any hard boiled eggs for lunch so I don't have enough lunches to get through the week.  I grabbed some pizza from the work cafeteria and a cookie.  A very large chocolate chip cookie.  After work DDG and I decided to run some errands.   We got some clothes shopping done and we were getting hungry.  After finishing some groceries at Sam's we decided to grab a slice of pizza and a pretzel each.  Not a single freggy was consumed yesterday.  Save the freggies!  Wait... that's not the point.    

 

I had decent steps in by then and probably could have hit 8000 steps but when we got home we just sat on the couch and tried to catch up on The Outsider.  We only made it through 1 episode because I was struggling to stay awake.  We didn't start the next episode and just sat for a little bit until 10 so I didn't feel so lame going up to bed.  We went to bed early and I was asleep by 11.   

 

I also made a change to my goals.  Thanks for the advice @Sloth the Enduring.  I've basically just swapped my workout goal and my posting goal.  Doing a workout will be a bonus point.  It honestly isn't that likely to happen.  Posting daily is the 4th goal.  I've really struggled with that over the past year so it's the habit I need to work on.

Week 1 Day 3 - Shello eats all her freggies, and some pizza. 

Yesterday was mostly uneventful.  I fasted for 13 hours.  I had no conflicts in the morning so I could have waited another hour.  I was just hungry.  Lunch was pizza again.  I packed my lunch but forgot some of it.  Instead of the cookie though I ate the fruit that I did remember to pack.  Peach was hanging at my house when I got home.  She had made a frozen pizza so I snagged a couple small pieces for the heck of it.  I just couldn't resist.  We watched some TV together and hung out until her dad picked her up. Qbert showed up just after.  He finished off the pizza and we hung out for just a few minutes until his dad came back and picked him up.  

 

DDG usually spends Wednesday evenings at his apartment because one of his boys comes over to hang out.  He waited around a bit but his son didn't make it so DDG made it back to my place in time for dinner.  We had biscuits and beef stew I had batch cooked on the weekend.  That counted for a portion of veg.  We spent the rest of the evening camped on the couch catching up on The Outsider.  It's a good thing we only had 3 more episodes to catch up on.  I barely made it through the last one.  I only got 5300 steps.  Had I paid attention I would have at least gotten 700 more in order to get 1 point.

Week 1 Day 4 - Shello has a stressful day 

I had training at work most of the day.  The vendor was scheduled to do training at 8 so we got up early so I could get to work early enough to get them set up in the room to present and get them settled.  Not only did they not show up early but they were 10 minutes late. They did bring breakfast from Panera.  I had a chocolate croissant and some fruit after fasting for 13 hours.   I grabbed a cinnamon bun when we took a break but by then it was near my lunch time and I was genuinely hungry.   I wasn't as hungry when lunch was delivered but I didn't enjoy the Jimmy Johns they ordered.  I don't like lettuce and tomatoes on my sandwich so I picked them off and it was loaded with mayo.  I saved it for later and added some cheese to my now plain turkey sandwich.  Training was stressful since my boss's temper flared when the team was late.  I was the one responsible for working with the vendor for the training but obviously I don't control if they are late.  But once my boss is triggered there's no going back.*  I left work late but not as late as I should have stayed so technically I left early.  DDG met me at home.  I finally got around to putting away the last remnants of my Christmas decorations and some Halloween decorations that got missed.  Then I realized I missed a Christmas decoration.  It is still sitting on the table.  DDG and I camped on the couch the rest of the night.  I had biscuits and beef stew, he just had some biscuits.  He got to out for a big lunch at work and he has this amazing ability to skip dinner.  I would still get hungry despite a large lunch.  We started watching Miracle Workers.  It's dumb but funny but not as funny as I expected based on the trailers.  Steps for the day were a joke and I started to get sleepy by 9.  We went up to bed early but found ways to stay awake until a respectable time.  

 

*She wasn't actually mad at me.  It was all self inflicted stress because I tend to carry the burden.

I don't like tomatoes on my sandwich either. Why would I want my sandwich to be soggy? I do like some crisp iceberg and cheese sandwich though. Crunchy chompy yum. But I don't like super green lettuce that just goes limp and offers NOTHING to the sandwich.

This was shredded lettuce.  I don't understand shredded lettuce.  What is its purpose?

LOL.  I get JJ all the time but the sandwiches I get never have mayo and if they did come with it I would have them hold it.  But since this was catered I had no say except to use the tomato to scrape off as much mayo as I could.

Week 1 Day 5 - Shello  

I was determined to get full points for fasting so I waited to break fast after 14 hours.  Lunch was a chocolate muffin in a cup, cheese and crackers, and some grapes and berries.  Work was mostly uneventful and fairly productive.  I've been completely swamped  at work so it was good to be able to buckle down and get some stuff done.  I think the stress at work is what has been making me more tired this week.   I'm off a few days next week and a few days the week after (DDG and I are going to Mexico!) so I need to get a handle on my workload or I'm going to come back to a mess.  I brought my laptop home this weekend but it's very difficult to get motivated to work at home on the couch.  I am using my work laptop right now but clearly I am not working. 

 

Yesterday the kids came back to my place for the week.  DDG went back to his apartment after work.  I grabbed some groceries on the way home and then picked the kids up at their dad's.  Peach's best friend was staying over too so I barely saw them all night.  I could definitely hear them from upstairs but we didn't see much of them.  I was planning on hitting my freggy goal for the day but instead of beef stew for dinner again I grabbed some pizzas on the way home.  I briefly considered having a pre-pizza apple to get that last serving in but I passed on it.  Qbert and I watched Midway while we ate pizza then he went off to chat with his gf and I went up to bed.  I tried watching a little TV but I kept falling asleep.  No points for steps since I barely left my desk or the couch all day.
