Uh, how long after getting up and showering are you allowed to go back to bed for a nap? Asking for a friend.

I think that varies depending on your policy regarding napping/sleeping with your hair still wet from the shower...

The fact I have a separate pillow just for using when my hair is still wet suggests I am not the right person to chair this question.

I hope you feel rested soon.

Yay for getting enough space to do yoga!

I have lost part of my yoga space to my work computer table. There is just enough space in the rest of the room. I realized last week that I needed to switch the direction I was facing so that I didn't accidentally kick a houseplant off its stand when I do leg extension moves. I could go to the living room and move the coffee table. I just resent giving up my usual space.

Double yay for getting 8 hours of sleep! Do it again!

Hand towel over the pillow to keep the pillow dry?

While that helps the pillow, it does nothing for the state of my hair if I go to bed before its dry. Towel or no towel, I wake up to a distaster.

I would not say my mental health is terrible, but it's not where I'd like it to be. Let's just say my brain has been shutting a lot things down to conserve power.

Current goals: not that.

Tonight's plan: I'm not gonna force myself to do anything on my list, but if it gets done, it gets done. But I do have a goal: pure, utter hedonism. I will watch a funny movie, make a good meal, read a book, make chocolate, maybe make my space super nice, drink more coffee. Yoga counts, and I need to convince myself that an early bedtime not only counts, but is mandatory to hedonism. (I will have real trouble with that one.) In the process of those goals, a few things should get done, and I should be a little better off.

Mostly I want to kill all humans, though.

It did. I didn't get all the stuff done, but it was a nice headspace to be in.

I like your hedonistic approach, it should cheer you up. I'm sorry it's necessary. I think you are handling the situation really well, and are far more self-aware than many.

Thank you, that's very kind. It's not always translating into the practical outcomes I'd like, but, well, it's hard to view that as a character flaw under the circumstances, more than just an understandable frustration.

It's such an effective headspace in some ways that I think it might become part of the challenge. After all, in some ways, being the Doctor is about being a huge hedonist who's in love with everything fascinating and beautiful, and is not particularly concerned about what he or she ought to be doing instead. Seems to work as lifestyle choice for him or her.

Man, it feels like at least ten years since I last posted this. Which might be on brand, actually. Maybe it was ten years ago. In Glasgow.

(Oddly shippy, but literally the cutest thing with the coffee scene in it.)

First project: Be a doctor

Rule one of dying: don't.

Rule two: slow [the virus progress] down.

To Do

  1. Cut more cleaning rags for increased demand
  2. Move the hallway landing strip closer to the door
  3. Replace the landing strip mail processing station with a decontamination station
  4. Mop the floor
  5. Set up telemedicine
  6. Try to get my hands on a pulse oximeter for the kit
  7. Get more isopropyl when it's available
  8. Find or replace my digital thermometer
  9. Set up prescription delivery and submit prescriptions
  10. Steam clean the kitchen (baseline)
  11. Look up how to bring blood pressure down if it does a covid spike

In Progress

  1. Bonus: make a smart data station to track my temperature and stuff
  2. Start taking more vitamins C and D
  3. Track hydration, it's still below par
  4. Refill the soap bottles
  5. Count handwashing
  6. Wash all the bedding

Done

  1. Refill the spray bottles
  2. Buy ingredients for batch cooking
  3. Get flu kit contents
  4. Put chopsticks everywhere I snack
  5. Get facecloths and make mint-infused moisturizing solution for my workspace, because I need help to stop touching my face
  6. Scrub the bathroom sink
  7. Batch cook and freeze rice for miso soup for a rainy week
  8. Scrub the tub
  9. Order some non-medical masks
  10. Prep the flu kit
  11. Get more cough suppressant
  12. Batch cook and freeze meals for a rainy week
  13. Saline for congestion
  14. Make and freeze the pumpkin soup
  15. Steam clean the bathroom (baseline)

Second project: redecorate my console room

It's traditional, with any regeneration, to redecorate the place.

To Do

  1. Set up smart home app on DVR
  2. Set up bathroom audio player
  3. Clean last season out of the space garden
  4. Set the space garden up for a new season
  5. Plant seeds
  6. Organize the bathroom shelves
  7. Organize bathroom cabinet
  8. Organize the closet
  9. Clean final fridge drawer
  10. Move work clothes into storage
  11. File the boxes
  12. Get some accelerometers

In Progress

  1. Fix DVR tuner
  2. Replace wifi and fix
  3. Get a 3D printer and spools of PLA
  4. Clean out freezer
  5. Order kick scooter for local transit
  6. Organize kitchen cabinets
  7. Plan home office changes
  8. Prepare new mushroom jars

Done

  1. Maybe a steam cleaner
  2. Get some coffee, chocolate, and tea selection for sanity
  3. Get some coconut oil
  4. Order new laptop
  5. Put out bowl for oranges
  6. Do the census crap
  7. Contact community garden
  8. Rewire the media center
  9. Get some meat in the freezer and more eggs in the fridge
  10. Get some salsa and cheese
  11. Maybe get a fresh backup drive
  12. Hang gauze curtains and open the windows, because I can have fresh spring air
  13. Move furniture around to make different spaces

Third project: General badassery and challenge support

Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind. And do not underestimate the power of anger, held close and channeled.

To Do

  1. Make a new sleep schedule to more strongly reinforce good health habits
  2. Make a new meditation plan
  3. Make a media consumption plan
  4. Make a new media-making plan

In Progress

  1. Curate clothes down to a work-from-home uniform
  2. Rip the new DVDs
  3. Make a new hydration/food/vitamins schedule to more strongly reinforce good health habits
  4. Make a new cleaning schedule
  5. Make a new virtual socializing schedule to more strongly reinforce good mental health habits
  6. Make a new exercise plan

Done

  1. TBA

Week 2 Day 6

Laugh hard: the dumbest British panel shows I can find

Run fast: no, unless you count luxuriating in our new plague future

Be kind: family Easter call

Sleep deficit: a shocking 22 hours

I had that down to 16 for a while, then last weekend's gains rolled off.

I've moved all my living room furniture to make two spaces, a work space by the window and a large open floor space. It's not the most intuitive arrangement, but it gives me what I want now: more sunlight and fresh air when I work, and room for exercise and floor sitting in front of the TV. It also makes the room feel miles bigger, which is nice, given that I'm largely stuck in here.

Moving furniture makes annoyingly clear where I've been hiding the messes, but I'm chipping away at it all. It's kind of depressing me, though. It never ends. But I've maintained a net improvement this week, despite a couple of really, really unproductive days.

I've got my chocolate bunnies for tomorrow, but not my copy of The Wicker Man, so my Easter celebration is a bit thrown. I suppose if we're going for a rebirth theme, I could watch a regeneration episode or two. It's not quite island of the promiscuous murder-pagans, but there is flirting with dinosaurs and killer robots.

An important PSA on this one: Have at least 2 digital thermometers.  They are not always accurate and false positives can lead to a lot of unnecessary stress.  We discovered that one of our digital thermometers is both the most convenient to use but also the least reliable, so we spent a couple of sleepless nights worrying about the readings until we started do concurrent checks with multiple thermometers.

Oh. Good one.

Agreed.

I applied the same weeks ago so on the one hand, I am disappointed in myself that I kept postponing following everyone's new threads.

On the other, the big part of the initial reactions seem to have subsided and I can read them wíth the barrier that I'd be necromancing topics that should stay in the ground. Maybe not 7 feet, but still. At least with some ruffled ground and some water and sunshine until they are ready to become a food source.

Right,  that was my brain's Mornings and Metaphores broadcast. Thank you for watching.

Loving all the Dr. Whoooo! ( I have so many seasons to catch up on.... Probably season 7+)

Take care.

This would be the one I recommended. Any episode with Bob Mortimer and you're on to a winner.

I've seen his episodes, and I totally agree, but he might break my brain today. I'm a fragile flower or something. Hate-watching Jimmy Carr might be all I'm good for at the moment.

Good for you getting your living space set up for your current needs!

My dojo did a video class last weekend. One of my friends had a view of her dining room behind her. She explained that all the furniture was moved to the side because someone was always doing yoga or exercising there.

It is amazing what can hide under furniture. I retrieved five superballs and three fluffy toys from under the couch after Dumbledore vacuumed the living room. I was pretty sure they were there, but didn't want to lie down on the carpet before it was vacuumed. Elf pulled the drawers from under their bed and vacuumed behind the bed for the first time in three years. They did not admit to finding anything interesting, but took a full bag of junk out to the trash afterwards.

Week 3 Day 2

Laugh hard: yes

Run fast: yes; I did some yoga and meditation, and got a lot of jobs done, and nearly finished both my work list and my home list

Be kind: ish?

Sleep deficit: under 21 hours

I slept pretty well last night. It helps to think of it as physical repair time, so that is what I will do. I do have lots of it to catch up on. Only tonight won't be full of tons of it, because I have stuff to do in the morning, and I'm running late with dinner tonight, but it's okay, cuz I got stuff reasonably well sorted. Nothing was done perfectly, but stuff was done adequately. I did some yoga after work when my shoulders hurt, and then I meditated instead of napping, and just kept doing guided meditation till I wasn't tired anymore. Then I cleaned tons of stuff.

It was... not my ideal day, but an approximate sketch of it, so that's something.

In one of the NF Yoga videos they talk about shavasana (corpse pose) as a time to let your body run an upgrade on its systems to integrate all the stretching and strengthening just done. It's a great visual and a good placebo effect because I can imaging how the physical sensations of that upgrade might feel. It may help to create your own imagery for how sleep as repair time might work (provided the effort of visualizing something like that doesn't complicate thins further).
