NightWatcher13 is making it up as she goes

Recommended Posts

Much like the rest of Ohio and the world, the next few weeks are super up in the air here.

So, especially since one of my current D&D characters is loosely based on Captain Jack Sparrow (Chaotic tabaxi gunslinger with sailor background, she 100% lost her ship in a bet in game, and she does NOT always think ahead... or think at all) I'm going to go with a very fluid yet structured design this challenge.

^^ custom mini of Cliff, my salty sea cap'n. (She may or may not be drunk 2/3 of the time... which has made for some hilarious in-game moments)

Main quest:

Reclaiming My Time

I got a lot better over the last challenge at making things outside of work happen, but still have a ways to go on this front, and time management has always been a struggle to begin with since ADHD brains have a tendency to be somewhat time blind to begin with.

Quest 1 : Sleep management - 5 points/week

giphy.gif

  • Going to bed near the same time every night (I'm going to be aiming for between 10 and 11pm)
  • Getting up at the same time every morning, when my alarm goes off - this one is DEFINITELY going to be a struggle, I tend to snooze and I absolutely hate getting up in the morning
  • Exercising 4-5 hours before bed - obviously no yoga class anymore, so I'll have to figure out stuff at home. I should probably bring in my yoga mat from the car 😅 once quarantine is up I'll probably try to go for walks or something as well
  • One point per day I'm up before 8am, I'm not expecting myself to be able to roll that back all days hence not doing 7 points on this one

Quest 2 : Food tracking - 5 points/week

giphy.gif

I've gotten better at making sure I have food options and making food ahead again, now time to start tracking it. That plus I'm not entirely certain when work is going to happen again, potentially early

April? It depends on both my company and Ohio's government, much as I'm not super happy about being off for longer I hope the governor keeps the state shut down because I don't want to see this thing explode and cause a massive health crisis. But it means I don't want to try to have a food prep design that expects shifts every week, or one that expects time

  • Track food on Lifesum at least 5 days/week, 1 point/day
  • I may also share some pics/recipes on here 'cause food

Quest 3 : Work on sticking to a schedule - 5 points/week

giphy.gif

Madness. Definitely madness. I'm going to be trying to take some tips from videos like this one https://youtu.be/61wdjr6gWpw to try to get things under control while I don't have an external structure, needless to say this is also tied to the sleep and food quests, so some things are mentioned here though not being tracked twice.

  • Scheduling and sticking to said schedule for food prep, exercise and sleep.
  • Keeping up with planning in my bullet journal, planning and executing such things as cleaning, project time, practicing guitar etc
  • 1 point for each day I do a scheduled workout (max 3 points/week)
  • 1 point for each day I do guitar specifically (max 2 points/week)

Life quest : study Japanese

  • Use Duo min 5x/wk
  • Study 1 lesson/wk from my text books, these have 12 lessons each and they should be plenty doable especially as a repeat course at a rate of 1/week.
  • 1 point for Duo
  • 1 point for studying from the text books

Well... remember that whole theme of making it up as i go? This is basically going to have to get scrapped and replanned, 'cause starting monday I go back to work... on second shift (that will keep my lab partner and I from working together at any point, so we can keep social distancing while we go back to work). So now I gotta figure out what sleep management is going to look like with that in mind, which should actually be easier since it'll go with my natural rhythm much more than day shift. Not sure how long we'll have to keep that schedule, but considering my biggest issue with second shift was always the fact that I felt socially isolated with it... well right now that's kinda what we're supposed to be doing.

Also, ongoing roommate saga below, feel free to skip the spoiler area if you don't want to see the drama.

Spoiler

I had a chat today with my roommate's daughter. My roommate still hasn't done anything to get ready to move out, I don't know if she's just betting that I won't have her evicted or what. She still hasn't taken a shower, doesn't get actual groceries (has plenty of cigarettes to smoke), still has a bunch of trash just around the room

IMG_20200226_113628-PANO.thumb.jpg.ace2640cc7ffaa06cbba06e9822cb238.jpg

That's what it looked like before I put my foot down (a week after asking her to start looking for somewhere else to live, so nearly a month ago now - while she was in the hospital I went in and took  out 5 bags worth of trash. That is literally the only trash that has come out of there.) She overheard part of the conversation and is pissed that I talked to her daughter about this and the fact that if she doesn't get out soon, I will have no choice but to have her evicted. I can't keep living with this and the issues I mentioned last challenge.

I'll update with challenge week 1 summary later this weekend, but so far apart from needing to re-figure out parts of the challenge because of schedule change it's going pretty ok

Yikes, that's just ridiculous. I'm sorry you're still dealing with this.

*NightWatcher.Exe has encountered an error, system rebooting* I'm still alive, promise!

So, challenge functionally didn't go, going to night shift, having stuff in the plant in general and the lab specifically go a bit extra bonkers for the last few weeks, Dad going back to the hospital then getting discharged and sent home with hospice care (looooong story there) and general life in general right now I think my brain said "...we're just gonna keep the ship floating right now, we can deal with the rest later."

Roommate is still here, she's supposed to be moving in with her brother... soon? But I don't know when soon is and neither does she, I think, and obviously the whole mess of the pandemic going on has complicated that in general.

Thankfully, this coming week I'm moving my shifts a bit - I was on 3-11:30pm* (I've been on till 1 am quite a bit, due to aforementioned bonkers stuff at work) next week that shifts to 12-8:30pm, so hopefully that will help mitigate some of the chaos, and my lab partner and I will have some overlap time now so I can help him with some stuff that he just doesn't have the experience to deal with yet.

Finally got some exercise aside from walking all over the plant in last weekend, I picked up a VR boxing game that I used then, then failed until Friday to have enough time before work to do it again. It does seem to be helping mentally a lot at least, I'll detail it more in new challenge - which is probably going to be this one 2.0 functionally, to allow a lot of flexibility.

Yikes, that sounds like a lot! I'm glad things will be at least a little bit easier soon. Please don't forget to take care of yourself. :)
