Stacking clothes sideways like that is a revelation!  I have never even thought to do it that way.

I am at the mercy of whatever is at the top of the pile in the drawer is what I am wearing that day..

It's the Marie Kondo Method.  I like it.  I bought the boxes for a dollar at dollar tree.  I'm sure you have something similar over there, ha.

It is an amazing way to fold clothes. I decided to give it a try a few years ago and partway into refolding all my shirts I thought "I'm not sure this is worth it"....until I put them all in the drawer and I've never gone back!

I can't go back now.  The way it works makes me happy and it makes it so easy.

Today has been hard.  I slept poorly, i missed my workout window, and all day I was feeling unmotivated and low.  I'm really starting to struggle with at-home teaching.  What makes me love my job are my relationships and interactions with my students.  I love coming up with creative assignments and watching my kids engage with learning.  All of that is gone.  Fewer and fewer kids are attending my zoom meetings (usually an escape room or other interactive activity), my assignments have to be straight forward so kids can process them on their own, and the grading (of the work that actually gets done) never ends, and if I'm not grading, I'm contacting parents of kids who aren't working, which is also constant.  Kids grades pre Rona are being sheltered, and lots of kids are seeing this as an excuse to quit, since these assignments I'm giving now can't hurt their grades.  I get that we have to do it, and I'm glad they are protecting kids due to all sorts of equity issues, but this job I usually love feels like pointless drudgery right now.  I couldn't get motivated today, so I did next to nothing after my zoom meetings.

sidenote: one of my kids decided to spice things up by putting a pornhub link in the chat of our zoom today.

(there was not just one gif to express my feelings)

Gotta love high school freshmen, but this did NOT help set the tone for my day at 10:00am.

We had therapy today as well, and without going into detail, it wasn't great.  I came home and just wanted to curl up on the couch and watch garbage TV, but I didn't.  This is called a challenge for a reason, and sometimes the challenging part is the motivation, so I put on my garbage TV, but ALSO pulled out my notebook and computer and wrote another 500 words.  I love this forum on days like this.

This helped, and I'm still enjoying the story.  It is changing shape, but I like where it is going.  I'm gonna do the bedroom later tonight because I like my perfect record I have going so far.  Hope everyone is having a good day!!

And for now, it's not really a thing that matters because only one of the stories with this pattern is actually finished, so lets not count my eggs before they hatch.

Nice, glad you got some writing work done. :)

How often do you guys do this??

To be honest, not very often LOL. I can't remember the last time I cleaned my blinds.

I slept horribly.  I could not fall asleep and had a bit of a mental break down around 11:30 and just like sat there crying in bed spooning my dog until like 1am.  Long story short, no workout this morning because 4 hours of sleep is unacceptable, but I will make it up tomorrow.

Aw man, I'm sorry you had a bad night. Hopefully tomorrow night's (tonight's?) better.

Me too.  I love writing but I rarely make time for it.

Haha, my husband says ours get gross because we have three big dogs and yard made of sand, and that normal people don't have to do it as often, ha.

Silver linings!  I originally wrote this in college and I have found "genius lines" like, "Unless you can unpork queen whore, there nothing you can do to help."  I left it in.  Literary mastery right there.

Thanks guys.  Things will.  Its as much me letting them be as it is them being better.  My anxiety has been running circles around me lately.

I understand your school feels so hard. I’m sorry you had a hard day.

I'm just letting myself get caught up in it because I'm usually that "extra" teacher.  I need to take a more laid back approach, maybe that will help.

So, I decided after a day like yesterday it's about time for a gratitude list.. I'm thankful

  • for the fact that myself and my husband are still healthy
  • for steady income during this crisis
  • for reliable internet and access to mental health services (to keep both of us working and sane)
  • for great friends to have wine zooms with
  • for my home gym so I can continue lifting
  • for squats are finally fucking parallel
  • for deadlifts that make me feel like a badass (can you tell I actually worked out this morning)
  • and for COFFEE

There's probably more, but that's a pretty good list for now.

So, cleaning the bedroom did not happen yesterday, but I'm not holding it against myself because yesterday was hard and I did my duolingo and watched part of a movie with hubs instead.  I'm going to start giving myself a point a day for every duolingo because it something I want to keep up with and is in the spirit of "I start it I finish it"

So, yesterday's total points: 39/45

I am just going to roll the bedroom task into today and continue working on my writing.  So there are 11 points available today.

Happy Thursday!!!

I do like that it can be a crossover bag.  Gah, this is why I can't choose. lol

Anyhoo, yesterday was better than the last few days have been.  Work was productive, and I got a happy surprise when I met with my sophomores on zoom.  Of course, at this point, it's only the best, super dedicated kids that are coming (or the ones who got poor grades in Q3 who want to improve them) anyhoo, LAST WEEK right as we were getting ready to start our zoom activity, my power cut out for a second (a storm) and I lost internet.  So, I sent out a message apologizing to the kids saying we would try again next week.  HOWEVER, it turns out that it didn't dissolve the meeting because I got kicked.  It made one of the kids the host, and THEY ALL STAYED ON AND DID THE ACTIVITY.  So, even though that meant I had nothing planned for this week, it lifted me up a bit to know that there is a group of kids out there who were willing to work even when I wasn't watching.  This brings me joy.

My afternoon was much more productive as well.  I had to stop by school because they got us presents (popcorn and a yard sign.  I love it, but it will not be going in my yard...I'm not trying to become an egging target...lol) and I had to get a mother's day card, so I picked up some seed packets as well (I love the dollar store) and we are going to start a vegetable garden, and grow some flowers for our window boxes.  (various pictures in the spoiler)

After I got home and we had lunch, I worked out the last 3 weeks of school for my kids because I knew grading would only burn me out, and I needed to plan anyway.  It was a much more productive afternoon than the last few have been.  I did actually clean the bedroom yesterday, and I did my writing and duolingo, so all points were earned!!

I should also mention the NC's stay at home order ends today, and we are going into "phase one" of opening up.  Not much will change (we can have gathering with up to 10 friends in their yards with proper social distancing, shops not considered essential can open up, but only at 50% capacity, and restaurants still have to do take out and salons and stuff are still closed, masks still recommended, etc), but we are going to keep an eye on how it goes this week, and maybe try to head out to the drive on beach next weekend :).  They will be re-evaluating on the 22nd, so I hope people don't over do it (I know we are all so ready to be done with this, but I don't want to be stuck in my house again)

Today started without a workout, but I still have tomorrow morning to squeeze that in and get my 24 points.

Total points: 50/56

Today's tasks

  • 500 words in "Good Housekeeping"

Points: 5

  • Organize work space
    • Come up with a filing system for papers (plans, resources, assignments, etc)
    • File all papers
    • Take out trash (it's overflowing)

    • Deal with mail that has accumulated in the mail basket

Points: 5

How is your weekend going?xx

Busy!  We woke up late, and I had to run to the grocery store because we are having delayed Cinco de mayo with 2 friends, now that we can finally leave our houses and get together in groups of less than 10...with appropriate distancing.

So far, I've made (from scratch) guacamole, the crema for Mexican street corn (corn will be cooked at their place) and tres leches cake.  All I have to do is make the whipped topping for the cake and we are good to go.

(My 2 things today were make the cake and clean the kitchen...both are nearly done, woop woop)

I am really starting to enjoy baking (again) and cooking (in general).  I'm getting better (especially with things I am familiar with, like guac) at letting go of recipes and getting creative.

I'm still not perfect though.  Things I learned today:

1. If your avocados aren't quite ripe and you only quarter them, the stand mixer will throw them back out at you at random and avocado will get EVERYWHERE

2. It is too easy to zest a finger if you aren't careful

3.  If you don't read your ingredients carefully, you will have to go back out to the store when you realize veggie cream cheese cannot go into whipped topping.

Well, that's that.  Happy Saturday!!

Thanks!  My post was so quick yesterday I didn't have time for a full update or points, but things are going well!

So, the big news that I forgot to share from yesterday is that I did actually workout, but since I didn't have a ton of time, I just did a quick 5x5.  I didn't realize how long it had been since I had bench pressed, so I am SORE today.  Yesterday I got 3 points for the cake and 6 points for the kitchen, and I get to collect on my workout points, which comes out to 19 (only counted 3 for yesterday), plus my duolingo point.  And then there were the 10 points I earned from Friday.  Let me tell you guys, so far I am taking this challenge very seriously.  The only reason I wrote Friday and worked out yesterday was for the sweet sweet points.  Nova is not below bribery, even for herself.

By the way, I forgot to say thank you for still wanting to keep the assignments interesting although they need to be straight forward. And prepping them and grading them properly anyway.

The best part of my childhood (especially between 8 and... yeah no all of it. 17) were the caring teachers that loved their jobs (or focused on the good parts, anyway) and delighted in engaging their students. They gave me life whenever I felt like giving up :) not that my life was the hardest you could ever imagine but you know. Experiences are relative.  So yeah thanks! ( and sorry for the hormone driven actions)
