Hi friends!  Welcome to my throwback challenge, in MORE ways than one. :3

Everything is Chaos and I’m feeling like I’m in some ways, starting over, cobbling together a new routine in a world that doesn’t look like it’s going to be going back to the normal we know anytime soon. The goals I was pushing for are either unavailable right now or just don’t fit into the life I’m living, SO. It’s time to go back to the start and tackle some throwback goals to start building a new foundation!

What better to do this with than the remake of one of the best and most iconic RPGs ever? FF7R is absolutely the best video game I’ve ever played, hands down, I play a LOT of games, and I could write an essay on why it’s so perfect to me, buuut I won’t.

I’m even going with a THROWBACK FORMAT to the old days of many of our challenges!  HAH! What is the world coming to?! (Don’t answer that.)

Ok pals, LET’S MOSEY~

CLOUD STRIFE

45fcb5aaa917ebf1f5cfcb720770e0240abfa22f

Don’t be a shithead.

Seriously. SERIOUSLY. I have to make myself a goal not to be a bitter shrew. But that’s where we are.

I’ve been digging deep lately to look past the things that make me angry - the things I don’t have, that I feel slighted on, that maybe I feel like I deserve after all I’ve done? - and not let that bleed into my social relationships. The isolation’s making me a little more edgy than usual; my fiery heart is good for a lot of things, but not when it’s burning a resentful hole in my own chest.

Cloud’s a shithead when you first meet him, just in it for the money, stay the fuck outta my way, blahblah. But that all changes slowly but very surely, and he begins to open up and care about his teammates.  The remake does a VERY good job with this and the transformation from Angery Fuck to Empathetic Friend has been a blessing to witness.

Goal: realize when you’re angry at things out of your control.  Deal with it - journal, yoga, do some creative writing. Do not isolate from your friends or shun them; create your own light.

AERITH GAINSBOROUGH

tumblr_pr9djlWJRi1uqouabo4_540.gifv

Aerith is an absolute sweetheart and I will fight anyone that tries to hurt her. Real talk.

She is also the last of her kind, an Ancient, and as it’s described in this game, “a steward of the planet”.

It’s finally springtime, and this isolation from Pandemic World and working from home is doing a number on me.  I need to get outside AT LEAST once each weekend.  It’s been kind of hard because all the parks I try to go to are flooded with people - and the state has actually been closing down certain state parks because of it for safety reasons - but every little bit I can find it a help to me.

TIFA LOCKHART

8bbc971e51a7079053953dade69e26cae329a6b2

Tifa is just #goals. She’s strong, beautiful, kind, empathetic. The way they fleshed out her personality in the remake is absolutely perfect and I LOVE AND SUPPORT HER.

Tifa’s dealt with some shit but she’s never let that make her any less strong. I’ve dealt with some shit too, but I’m slowly turning into a marshmallow. Now that I’m kind of “settled” (ha ha) with our current situation I need to make whatever consistent fitness I can make happen, happen.

For me right now it will probably look like:

Kettlebells - 2x week.
Yoga - At LEAST 1x week, optimally 2.

This is subject to change if I’m having a Week from Hell or if a giant meteor drops on us, but this is my plan as of now!

BARRET WALLACE

710c1897302dc59d77f8d93daf531745979e357e

Barret somehow is this amazing mix of shooting his gun and cursing like a sailor continuously while ALSO being an absolutely kind and compassionate leader and friend and it’s perfect, his personality in the game may almost be my favorite.  He takes NO SHIT and is VERY LOUD and has NO RESERVATIONS about letting people know how he feels.  He’s true to himself and his comrades and he never wavers from his goals.

I want to vlog more but I am always so lazy about doing it so I’m going to just GET IT DONE. At least 2 vlogs this challenge. I promise not to yell and swear a lot, well, I’ll do my best!

Ok, cool, coolcool, I have ACTUAL GOALS this time that can start kickstarting some progress in this wackadoodle timeline we find ourselves in.  BUT WE GOT THIS.  WE CAN DO THIS! And I'm glad YOU are here with me, nerdfriends~ ❤️

Here for the vlogs.

When I think of the old Shaar challenges I think of how they were totally and completely off topic. Like, whenever a Ranger had any sort of random thought they’d drop it there. Oh, and the guitar, I liked that.

Gosh them were the DAYS, them were also the days where I could have the forums up all day at work and was much more active than I am with my current job...

GONNA SMASH IIIIIT ❤️

Today I got a sunburn! I'm not even mad.  It was in the low 70s and I sat outside for a few hours reading and enjoying the spring weather that we ALL DESERVE.

Today I also discovered the challenge of purchasing a kayak in these CoronaTimes where the world is shut down. It seems impossible unless I want to cough up $100 in shipping fees, HA.  (To be fair I want a real particular model of boat and the one store that sells it apparently doesn't have it in stock for curbside pickup, so once my roof rack gets here I may email them to see what's up.........)  SUCH CHALLENGES, in this Brave New World!  LET ME BOAT YOU ASSHOLE VIRUS

I feel your first goal. That's why my last challenge was all about finding the silver linings. There is a stoic concept of amor fati which basically says that everything is good or necessary and you should be glad for it. Even suffering is good... it makes you more resilient. Now to be fair, I've been trying this, and mostly failing... but it is helping me. Maybe it can help you as well?

Oh indeed, yes yes, I am a very big proponent of that concept.  It's gotten me through a lot of chaos times in my life! I'm generally an optimist and do my best to make every situation work for me no matter what, and it's hard to embrace all the time, so maybe I can think on this a bit more in these crazy times...

ALSO HELLO I'm glad to see you here!!

Thankyou!! This is the way a lot of us used to structure our challenges years ago.  I'm going back to the OldSchool!!

Wow guys today was a BUSY work day!!  I'm grateful for it because it kept me busy and focused and I got a lot done. ❤️

I'm going to set tomorrow as my first kettlebell workout of the week, after dinner. It's going to be somewhat of a chilly week here so I'll get as much as I can get done inside with workouts, and hopefully venture out on the weekend for my outside goal.

Not much else to report. We had a family of about 6 hawks sitting on the house roofs this afternoon - they've never done this before and it was sort of intimidating - I was hoping they'd pick up some of the noisy kids playing outside and abscond with them but, alas.No such luck...

It's gone back to chilly here and I am a little sad about it.  Looks like we won't have another spring-like day for another week at this rate... okokok, it will be ok!

Pretty much I do my dumbbell workout, just with a kettlebell, depending on if it's arms or leg day!

HALLOOOOO JEDI I am happy to have you here!!!! :DDDD ❤️

Hallo friends it is a TUESDAY!  Today work was busy but good. I'm working on a big and fairly time-sensitive project so in the hours I'm doing that I'm mostly left to my own devices and it is nice.

tenor.gif?itemid=16009704

I haven't been feeling emotionally sinister lately BUT I do want to make some time to do some more writing of my narrative this week, maybe tomorrow night?

I wish it were warmer.  But it'll get there! ..... Someday~

Tonight I am going to do a yoga video before I play more video games! Maybe one for lower back since I've been SITTING so much lately, ugh.  Working from home definitely has me sitting WAY more than at the office and I don't like iiiit...

THURSDAY I am picking up my vegetable box from the local farm stand!!  I'm so EXCITED, it's going to have fresh veggies from locak farmers, tomatoes, avocados, microgreens, summer squash and lots more, also some cheddar cheese and artisan olive oil too!  I'll make sure to get a picture, I can't WAIT to make a big ol' salad with it all for dinner that night!! :DDD

You totally should! I can't wait to get mine tomorrow.  It's from a local farmstand that also sells jewelry and crafts and soaps, and makes some of the BEST to-go sandwiches and macaroni salad ever... I want to help them stay afloat and can't wait until they open again!!

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS

I did TWO different yoga videos last night  - one for hips and lower back and another one for neck tension - for 50 MINUTES TOTAL.  I have ascended. (Not really ahaha) I actually enjoyed doing them too and kinda am looking forward to more... who even AM I anymore, no one knows.

I also slept like a rock (finally) and am feeling refreshed today. Most nights I'll conk out right away at 9:30-10ish but consistently wake around 2 or 3 and then either roll around for 2 hours and doze until my alarm, or go back and forth in some on/off fitful sleep until I get up... u g h.  I'm not really STRESSED about anything per se that would affect my sleep, but I have noticed that it tends to coincide when I have a bourbon too close to bedtime, so... TL;DR sleep, get a life.

I was ANGERY last night about stupid shit. Maybe not stupid shit.  Maybe I'll talk about the details here but also maybe I won't, and I think I'll just dig into a little more narrative of Loire and the Aspects instead..... because I haven't written in a LONG time!

Things for Me to Do After Work:

1. YOGA.

2. WRITE.

3. If there is time left, play Dissidia. DO NOT TEMPT THYSELF into overriding the first two items in favor of this item............

FF VII may well be my absolute favorite videogame of all time, or at least up there in the top 3. So sad the remake is only available on PS4 so far, though even if it was on PC, my olde not-64x Windows system probably couldn't run it anyway. Pumped to see you do a FF VII themed challenge, even if there's no boxing training under Tifa.
