Or not ... maybe quarantine is affecting my brain afterall?
 

This is what my brain came up with for a title, and it makes no damn sense.

 

This challenge may or may not see a lifting of quarantine conditions where I live and may or may not see the opening up of some International borders. As such, dunno what these next 5 weeks will bring.

 

Having said that, my little routine shouldn’t change much - even if we get off of lockdown, it’s still Ramadan and heading into the Summer months here - when schedules get wonky and things just randomly close. And temps are hovering at 90 - 100F. So.

 

My general guidemap:

Daily yoga or meditation or breath work

Not eating like an asshole as much as possible

Supporting my Nerds and keeping in touch with my IRL friends

Feeding my being through creative exploits

 

Goal 1: Activity

 

Daily yoga, aiming for 1 - 2 in a live class setting, 3 - 4 in video setting and 2 free form.

 

It’s now ramping up to be Summer here, so I will keep a weekly walk as long as weather permits.

 

Goal 2: Nutrition

 

Daily vegetables, eating so my GI tract doesn’t rebel, and not eating so much or so unhealthily that I feel like a space slug.

 

Also, no alcohol on weeknights - Friday date night and hanging out with friends or family only.

 

And water - need to get better about staying hydrated.

 

Goal 3: Support and Connection

 

Keeping up with y’all on the forums.

Reaching out to and making time for my IRL friends.

 

Goal 4: Feed My Sense of Well-being

 

Keep up with my steady stream of crafts - both physical and digital creations.

 

And that’s it - shirt and sweet.

Week: 0, Monday & Tuesday

Quarantine Status: Full lockdown

 

Guidemap

 

Daily yoga, meditation or breath work - Daily creative exploits: current project(s), picture of the day, yoga pic of the day, weekly recipe post - Weekly grocery shop - Weekly constitutional walk as long as the weather allows - At least 2 social interactions with IRL people per week

 

Nutrition

 

Breakfast:  Mixed fruit / Scrambled egg & mushrooms

Lunch:  Pasta with babaganoush / pasta with mushrooms & zucchini

Dinner:  Quorn burger with kale/radish slaw, Finnish mustard & sautéed snow peas / Ginger garlic noodles with marinated tofu 

Snacks:  Seconds on lunch / none

 

Did I eat like an asshole? Nope - both days were good 

Did anything try to kill me? A bit. Something has given me toxic death farts but I’m not sure exactly what - or if it’s leftover from Sunday’s pizza. Will monitor, but I have my suspicions 

Did I eat a vegetable? Yep, both days

Did I drink enough water? Nope, neither day - though Tuesday was marginally better 

 

Support and Connection

 

Did I support my Herd? Yes on Monday, I don’t think I logged in on Tuesday 

Did I interact with “IRL” humans? No on Monday, had my scheduled coffee group on Tuesday 

 

Feed My Sense Of Well-being

 

What did I learn today? Dunno on either day 

What was my project for the day? Have been coloring and crossing Animals 

 

Activity

 

What did my yoga practice look like today? Monday was my weekly Zoom class, Tuesday was just coloring meditation - couldn’t bring myself to hit the mat 

Was I able to go on a walk this week? I was! Tuesday walked to pick up the pups and hoofed it back. It was hot and Odin had a rough time but we made it.

Lunch:  DH came home early and craving Mickey D’s. Had a spicy Grand Chicken meal / Sweet potato latkes with sautéed kale & marinated tofu

Dinner:  Skipped because I was still too full  / More latkes with zucchini, kale & eggs

Snacks:  None / None

 

Did I eat like an asshole? Ish / Nope

Did anything try to kill me? Ish (stomach pains from the McD’s) / mostly nope (death farts)

Did I eat a vegetable? Yep / Yep 

Did I drink enough water? Probably not to either

Did I support my Herd? Yes / No 

Did I interact with “IRL” humans? No / No 

 

Feed My Sense Of Well-being

 

What did I learn today? Dunno 

What was my project for the day? Crossing Animals and coloring - Thursday was a high anxiety day coupled with a bad asthma day & phonecall re: moving apartments in the same building because of continuing dog drama. I crossed a bunch of animals and then spent like 4 hours coloring to calm the F down. Cooked a bunch in the afternoon so I had something constructive to do while I was pacing.

What did my yoga practice look like today? Some deep yin folds / just trying to settle my mind through coloring 

Was I able to go on a walk this week? Already done

I don’t know if it would be better or not - on the one hand, maybe - we will be above the gym, so there’s that? On the other, we would lose all semblance of view and the few rays of sun we get on the balcony + we would be 3 floors down and basically right on top of the playground + sunning area. I have a plan to mitigate the tanning people by blocking the lower portion of the balustrade so the dogs can’t see out - but I will so miss the view. And the one cool feature wall on the balcony. 

 

And the sun. The dogs love to sun themselves even when it’s 110 out, and I’ve found that my brain does much better when it can see either actual sun or reflected light - just outdoors being close to the window - any sort of outdoors - works. The patio being as deep and covered as it is really bothers me. We have mitigations in place - namely a bunch of Hue lights with a daylight sun program - and that helps a bunch, but being able to see a square of reflected building sun also helps. With the new balcony, we’ll be able to see that a bit - but our view would be of the top of a storage shed, and that’s pretty much it. We wouldn’t be able to see the marina or the bay(?). I like my partial view, dammit. 

 

And then that brings the issue of the pandemic. Don’t know if the internet guys are working, the building can send workers to help move - but how to do so with social distancing, my doctor still doesn’t want me taking unnecessary risks (my asthma drama of a few days ago set that shit in stark relief), and getting to the shop for wood putty to camo the chewed door frame (thanks to my jackass dogs) would be tricky. 

 

I’ll do what I have to do, and I don’t want to make the leasing guy’s life any worse because he’s hearing about this shit on the daily, but I also don’t want to be pushed around by a delicate dickwad who feels too big for her britches, ya know?

Quarantine Status: Full lockdown

Breakfast:  Eggs, the rest of the sweet potato latkes, some kale & some zucchini 

Lunch:  DH came home early and hungry again - ordered sushi from an all-you-can-eat place, paid 2/3 of what we did for fancy sushi the other week ago - and it was so-so. I mean, I wouldn’t kick it off my plate - but I don’t know if it was worth all that. Especially given that it was only a little more than what 1 of us would pay for the fresh-to-order all you can eat option. They did send some weirdo Asian-does-Arabic iftar stuff though, which was interesting. They sent a black olive/cream cheese fried in a wonton thing, a potato & pea samosa filling in the same type of fried wonton, a rolled ground sausage fried thing, a kibbeh with good lamb, a cinnamon roll with a chunk of pineapple, and an undrinkable to us smoothie of dates, rose water and who knows what else because rose water can go straight to hell 

Dinner:  It was Friday date night - good thing we weren’t starving, because the baked chicken with potatoes & grapes was only so-so - chicken wasn’t 100% done near the bone, the potatoes weren’t even close to being done, and the grapes were good. Plus, made good English muffins, which we had with the very last of the butter. 

Snacks:  Skipped 

 

Did I eat like an asshole? Eh

Did anything try to kill me? Not especially

Did I eat a vegetable? Yes

Did I drink enough water? no

 

Support and Connection

 

Did I support my Herd? Yes

Did I interact with “IRL” humans? Yes! I played Animal Crossing with my cousin - maybe that was Thursday? Maybe that was yesterday - don’t remember, but it was good chatting with her a bit and getting to explore someone else’s island. 

 

Feed My Sense Of Well-being

 

What did I learn today? How to plant fruit trees, how to get other fruit than oranges, what to do when on a friend’s island 

What was my project for the day? Just coloring and Animal Crossing 

 

Activity

 

What did my yoga practice look like today? Just meditation with a few stretches 

Was I able to go on a walk this week? Already happened

Sorry for both the rough asthma day and the continued chaos with your neighbors. I personally just roll my eyes at the whole situation (I have learned I rather take dogs neighbors over loud music/yelling neighbors).

Would love to have that option - buuuut I’m most assuredly not living in the US with the protection of rental laws, equal (theoretically or otherwise) treatment under the law, or democracy. So, unfortunately I *do* have to worry about it a bit, and at least stay on the good side of the building. 

 

As for Animal Crossing, unlocking new things definitely, but I’m enjoying the grind as well. I feel productive without actually being productive. DH finds it hilarious how the game basically boils down to decorating, organizing and cleaning - 2 things I love: 1 I hate.

Lunch:  The wrap version of one of the subs I get + sweet potato fries with curry mayo & curry ketchup / Korean: scallion pancakes and jjiangmeon(sp?) 

Dinner:  Leftover ginger noodle bowl / Skipped

Snacks:  Tapatios flavored Doritos during game night / Skipped

 

Did I eat like an asshole? Not the worst either day, but not the best 

Did anything try to kill me? Not terribly on either 

Did I eat a vegetable? Yes and no

Did I drink enough water? No for either 

 

Support and Connection

 

Did I support my Herd? No for either 

Did I interact with “IRL” humans? Yes and no - Saturday was game night and we started an RPG. 

 

Feed My Sense Of Well-being

 

What did I learn today? Dunno

What was my project for the day? Crossing Animals and coloring on both days

Was I able to go on a walk this week? Yes! Had a longer walk to the grocery than usual on Sunday - had to pick up our neighborhood ID cards just in case they actually do end up tightening access to the marina like they keep threatening (we haven’t hit peak infection levels yet - up to 1100 a day). It’s been so long since I’ve been out and about I got lost on the way and ended up walking all over the middle shopping area before finding the right office. Also had my long Tuesday walk this week to pick the pups up

Week: 1, Monday

Quarantine Status: Full lockdown

 

Guidemap

 

Daily yoga, meditation or breath work - Daily creative exploits: current project(s), picture of the day, yoga pic of the day, weekly recipe post - Weekly grocery shop - Weekly constitutional walk as long as the weather allows - At least 2 social interactions with IRL people per week

 

Nutrition

 

Breakfast:  English muffin with peanut butter

Lunch:  Leftover Korean black bean thing I can’t remember how to spell 

Dinner:  A sweet potato/beet veggie burger patty on an English muffin with Kewpie mayo & Korean hot sauce + “fixed” the potatoes from Friday by boiling the damn things for :20 in turkey gravy - a few *still* weren’t cooked 

Snacks:  Extra lunch in the form of the leftover Korean spring onion pancakes

Did I eat a vegetable? Kinda? Root veggies at least

That would be amazing, but that’s the lunch from the second day. 

 

I don’t know what the equivalent is in the States, but the Grand Chicken is a fried chicken patty (maybe the one from the McCafes? I don’t remember - have had that chicken once, drunk af) with a kinda spicy mayo that I think has Dijon in it, lettuce & tomato. Probably supposed to have cheese, too. And the bun is the big fluffy one - I think the McCafe bun. It was ok - I prefer the chicken from elsewhere, though from where I also can’t remember.

Week: 1, Tuesday / Wednesday

Quarantine Status: Full lockdown, though restaurants and cafes are allowed to offer carry-out now instead of just delivery. Cafes are allowed to be open at all - they were previously closed completely. We shall see what this means, as the number of cases here have ramped up to ~1300 a day and we are projected to be nowhere near at peak.

Was I able to go on a walk this week? Yep - picked the pups up Tuesday and had a shit walk back with Mr. 100% anxiety, thanks to there being another dog in the room during pickup.
